Chapter 10
Sandra
Luke's eyes were wide open as Rina collapsed on the ground. He then looked at Ms. Harriet and gestured at Rina. It looked like they were having an argument with facial expressions. I then realized Ms. Harriet was probably talking to him in his mind. I keep forgetting she can read minds and talk into your head. I shivered. I do not want to experience that.
We all crowded around Rina. I asked, "What did you do to her?"
Luke didn't even look at me. He then placed his hand on Rina's head and closed his eyes. Then Rina's eyes shot open as she sat up immediately, "What happened? Did I miss something?"
She was talking really fast to where her words were a little slurred, but you could still understand what she was saying. Her eye twitched. Me, Callie, Nea, and Sydney passed concerning looks to each other, "Rina... are you okay?" Sydney asked carefully.
"Yeah, I'm fine why?" Rina said, faster than before. Her eye twitched twice.
I turned to Luke, "What did you do?"
He still didn't look at me. He put his hand on Rina's arm. All of a sudden, lightning traveled up his arm. He got up and then shot the lightning at the wall. I stared horrified at the lightning he threw. It was red. Not Rina's normal blue... but a vibrant red.
Rina sighed and put a hand on her forehead and groaned, "That felt... really weird." Her words were back to normal. Not fast. I looked back at the wall where he threw the red lightning. I stood up.
"What happened? Am I the only who saw red lightning?" I asked looking at my friends.
"I saw it," Callie said shyly as the rest of my friends nodded in agreement.
"So... then what was that? What did you do?" I asked turning back to Luke.
He finally looked at me, then glanced at Ms. Harriet, then back at me, "I control light. The light I create though... is different. Once any light is in my possession it is considered Dark Light," He said as he sat back down.
"Dark light? Those are literally opposites!" Sydney said as she got up, tugging on her gloves.
Luke smirked and dark purple fire appeared on his hand. I gaped at him. The fire seamed so... unnatural. Dark purple?
"How can you control fire?" I asked.
"Its light isn't it?" He asked. As the fire left replaced with red lightning traveling up his arm.
"So, what happened to Rina?" Nea asked as she helped Rina off the ground.
"It's complicated... but I felt the lightning in her and took some into my possession and made it backfire on her," He turned to Rina, "You okay?"
Her eyes softened, "Yeah... just felt strange... Why did I talk really fast though?"
"I had to vibrate the lightning in you, so it could wake you up," He said as he moved the red lighting to his palm and moved his hand toward Rina's face and started making the lightning bounce around on his hand to where it was a red blur. She backed away immediately. "I'm guessing that means you felt that?"
She nodded. He closed his hand into a fist making the lightning disappear.
"That's so freaking cool!" Sydney shouted as jumped into the arena. "Alright, I'm ready!"
Luke quirked an eyebrow, glanced at Rina, then walked into the arena into a fighting stance. Sydney immediately transformed. I looked at her hands realizing she left her gloves in the mirror so she can use her powers.
He flicked red lightning at her, shocking her, and then wrapped a force field of light around her. She was surrounded. He then ran into the light. I looked around but couldn't see him or Sydney. The light was too blinding.
All of a sudden, Luke walked out of the light. He made the light disappear. Sydney then stumbled weakly on the ground. She wasn't in her superhero outfit... I looked at Luke who was holding her necklace.
"I'll be honest, Sydney... you have potential..." He looked at the necklace and tossed it on the floor in front of her, "But you need more training... like I'm sure everyone else in this room does."
I walked into the arena, grabbed Sydney's necklace, and helped Sydney up. She was staring at nothing, "Sydney?" I asked.
"Yeah..." She said looking away from me and tripping.
I barely caught her. I waved a hand in front of her face, "Can you see me?"
"Nope," Sydney replied.
"You made her blind!" I yelled at Luke.
He laughed and snapped his fingers. Sydney then looked around, "Nice move."
Luke un-blinded her. How'd he do that?
Luke gave her a fist bump, "You too. You almost turned me into stone. Not bad, kid."
"Um... kid? I'm only one year younger—"
Ms. Harriet stepped forward. She has been so quiet I almost forgot she was here. She said, "Let this be motivation for you, girls. The sooner you have the skill to beat Luke, the sooner your parents are awake."
W all nodded. I glanced at the window. It was nighttime.
"Well... we have to head home," I said as I gestured at the window. We all started walking toward the door.
"You are staying here tonight," Ms. Harriet said. We all turned around and looked at her.
"Here? At the lab, arena, place?" Sydney asked as she looked around.
"Yes... we have prepared rooms for you all."
"WOO!" Sydney screamed, "Superhero sleepover! Well... superhero, coach, and half hero half villain sleepover!" Sydney said as she pointed at the four us, then Ms. Harriet, then Luke.
"Actually, Luke is going home," Ms. Harriet said as she stared at him. He looked around at us with... a hint of regret? Ms. Harriet cleared her throat. He nodded and started walking toward the door, then turned around.
"You all did good today. Either ways I didn't get to train with all of you... I can tell why y'all were chosen," He said as he walked out of the room.
Ms. Harriet lead everyone out of the room, but before I walked into the next room, I glanced back and saw a flash of light and the sound of someone running.
Outside.
Where Luke was.
