Carlisle was walking normally back to Bella's place. He needed time to think about things. Bella was pregnant and dying. Aro was most definately going to come here if he found out. If he hasn't already. Carlisle knew he wasn't going to like seeing Aro after all these years. The pressure of beginning to feel human after all this time, and still dealing with supernatural things were starting to get to him. He was in so much pain from his body starting to work again, after being frozen for over 300 years. He didnt' know why it was starting to work. But he knew he wasn't half vampire any longer. He was still strong, unusually strong, but he was slowing down. While his eyesight was still 100 percent, he couldn't keep up with Alice when feeding anymore.
He knew that he was a human again. Without testing it. He just didn't know why or how. Why would his 300 year old body start working again, just when he needed to keep Bella safe. He was a liability now. Even if he was still strong and his eyesight was still that of a vampire. What use were they against speed?
Deciding to try to run, he ducked into the woods just off Bella's road. He really hoped that he could run as fast as he used to. That would mean he still could protect Bella. However, things around him seemed like in slow motion as he ran. He wasn't speeding up. He was panting, tired from running so far. As a vampire, he wouldn't be panting. He was human again. Or partly human. Vampan would be more like it. Return to human life after vamperism. Even his oldest friends would have no idea about this. There was supposed to be no cure for vampires. An old friend of his, Mick, had kept trying and trying to find a cure, since he was changed without his own consent. He never found it.
Something was definitely wrong with his body. Many of his friends now had cell phones, because of the times kept changing. He had his on him, and thought the only way to get to the bottom of this would be to call a friend that would know even more about returning to human life. Josef Kostan, a friend of Mick's. (Anyone know these two men here?) ;-) He lived in LA as a business owner, multi-million dollar business owner.
"Carlise, what can I do you for?" Josef asked as soon as he picked up. Carlisle never called him unless it was in desperate need. Usually for Josef to kill someone that had found out about him. He usually couldn't kill them himself.
"Josef, my friend, what do you know about returning to the mortal coil?" Carlisle asked, going to sit by a tree. Bella would be okay at the house with Alice. She would protect Bella better than he could at the moment.
Silence on the other end followed the question. "Carlisle, you know there is no cure. If there was, we would have found it by now," Josef said softly, wearily.
"Yes, but something's happening with me. I don't know what. The only thing I know is that I'm turning back. I still have strength and eyesight. But I've lost my speed. I've started feeling again. Cold, hot, needing to sleep, real sleep. Eating, things not bloodlike."
More silence followed. "We're coming." And he disconnected the phone.
Carlisle wasn't expecting Josef to come here. He didn't like leaving LA much. However, a friend in need. Deciding to get back to his love. His Bella, he got up and started walking back to her house, lost in thought.
"Carlisle," called a voice, making him stop just feet from Bella's yard. It was the voice that haunted his dreams. The voice of his fears. Turning to the voice he saw none other than.....
