Back again! Happy? No? Yes? Anyway, the book is drawing to a close, but I'm not sure when it will close. All I know is that it's closing. "Edward", Carlisle said wearily, turning around. No doubt that he could smell the change of Vampire to human on him. "How are you?" He couldn't really be seen. His vampire abilities were hiding him too good. 

Edward shrugged. "Not as good as you seem to be doing," Edward said testily. He stepped forward into the light. He was just like Carlisle remembered him. Except his eyes. They were darker, angry, and sad all at the same time. 

Deciding to play it cool, Carlisle shrugged. "I'm doing okay. Things have been up and down lately here, though." 

"Really? How up and down? Bella and you dating up and down?" Edward asked, his jaw tense. 

Carlisle sighed. "You know about that then, huh?" 

Scoffing, Edward rolled his eyes. "Carlisle, you stole her from me. You saved me, took me in, you are like my father. Then you do this to me? Why?" 

"Edward, you broke up with her. I can't help it if we fell for each other. She's a part of our world, we couldn't leave her behind." Carlisle said in earnest. Edward looked like he was going to puke, if he could. 

"Yeah, well, I left to protect her."

"I stayed to protect her," Carlisle hissed.

"You stayed to take what I loved!" 

"Who in their right mind leaves someone they love?"

"You're talking about vampires, Carlisle. We could kill her! You could kill her!" Edward yelled.

"Just because we can kill, doesn't mean we have too! You can't live life thinking about what could happen. You have to live in the moment, what is happening. Right now, Bella and I are in love and she's finally over you. That's our living in the moment. What comes tomorrow, I'm not sure, but we will deal with it tomorrow."

"What if tomorrow she woke up and loved me again?"

"She wouldn't because she's over you."

"What if I'm not over her? Huh? What then?"

What then? Good question. Obviously Edward still had feelings for Bella. How deeply those feelings went was the question. It didn't matter to Carlisle though. He loved Bella and would fight for her. Even fight his own "kin". "I'd fight for her," he responded lightly. 

"So, you're gonna risk loosing it and risk getting Bella killed by the Volturi just to feel human again?" Edward tensed his fist up, probably wishing it were embedded into Carlisle's head. 

Carlisle shook his head. "I'm risking my life to save Bella's life."

Several moments went by as Edward tried to process what Carlisle said. "You mean, wait, your smell. It's not the same. Its different. Are you human again?" Edward asked, thoroughly interested. 

Carlisle shrugged, unsure of what exactly to say to Edward. What will Edward do if I tell him that I'm becoming human again because I found my true mate? Deciding to tell part of the truth, Carlisle nodded. "Yeah, it has something to do with that." 

"Really? What? How did you find a cure?" Edward asked, forgetting about their argument over Bella. 

"Uh, I found my true mate," Carlisle said slowly and delicately. 

"True mate?" Suddenly Edwards eyes light up. "You mean the myth is true? True Mating Exists?"

"Looks like it?" Carlisle said. "Look Edward. I'm sorry that you think I stole Bella from you, but I love her. She loves me. I will fight to the death for her."

Looking like he was going to pounce, Carlisle took a step back. However to his astonishment, Edward simply swallowed hard and scoffed. "Whatever, Carlisle, have a happy life with Bella, I'm done," he said before walking off into the shadows again. Carlisle really wanted to call after him, but an emotional vampire wasn't to be bothered with at the moment. 

Carlisle walked the rest of the way back to Bella's house in shock. Did Edward really just give up on Bella completely? Was he giving his blessing? This was all very confusing. He really needed to get home and talk to Alice and Bella, then wait for Josef and Mick to show up. He didn't want Bella or Alice to get scared, though Alice rarely gets scared.
