"Pick your head up princess, your tiara is falling."

Afira's P.O.V

I woke up an hour early than I should've have. There was a tight knot in my stomach. I didn't know if I was feeling thrilled or tense. I sat up straight in my bed, "this is my engagement. My real engagement. With a bit of luck, my only engagement. So, I should enjoy it, right?" I queried myself. "Of course, yaar. I should enjoy myself a little. But not too much. Or he'll think I really want to get married to him," I spoke to myself. Gently, the door creaked open, I robotically picked up the pillow that was next to me for protection. A womanly figure stood in front of the doorway, "Bismillah," I picked up my other pillow and threw it towards her. I heard her mutter something under her breath.

"Allah. Afira, why would you throw a pillow to your own mother?" Ammi asked wearily.

"Ammi? I- Why you up so early?" I changed the subject.

"I heard you talking so I assumed you were sleep talking, again, because you don't wake up this early," I gave her a sheepish smile.

"Oh... Sorry..." I apologised.

"It's fine, since you're up so early you can have a bath, eat and then I'll get you ready."

"Acha, Sana and Aaliyah are coming here too, right?" I asked, Ammi nodded.

I strode into bathroom and soaked myself in the warm, welcoming and wonderful water. I don't know how long I was in the bathroom but then I heard Sana and Aaliyah banging on door, they were breaking it down! "Can a human being not have a bath in peace?!" I barked.

"Not if they take 2 whole hours in bath!" Sana yelled back. Opps...

"Give me 15 minutes, I'll be there." I quickly tugged on a bath robe and came out with a turban on my head. "Can you please pass me my clothes so I can put them on," I asked Aaliayh, who then handed me my peach long dress, and walked out of my room, allowing me to get dressed in amity. I was doe between 10 minutes, I unbolted the door and invited Ammi, Sana and Aaliyah to come into my room to help me get changed.

"Fee, we aren't no professional make-up artists but we can promise you this that when you walk into that whole all eyes will be on you!" Aaliyah vowed, making Ammi chuckle.

At least an hour and a half past by and I was finally ready. We had reached the hall for my engagement, I straightened out my dress and prayed that everything goes fine... And my make-up doesn't smudge. Could you blame me? I looked marvellous! I even painted my nails peach! I am wearing a peach, with little silver decorations, long dress, silver and peach bangles, silver neckless set. I had left my fingers empty because I know when I have the ring on my fingers will all stand out, even though I'll only have it on one finger.

"Nervous?" Asked Aaliyah, she fixed her dark peach anarkali and earrings, I nodded, she smiled.

"It's normal to be nervous," Sana ensured.

"How's your pregnancy going so far?" I examined.

Sana touched her stomach before replying, "I've got a tiny bump, it's big for 6 weeks." I giggled, she secured her saree, she had a silver long and loose sleeved blouse, that had a V-shaped neck, and everything else was peach, with detailed crystal designs.

After a few minutes Hussain's family entered... He is wearing a navy blue suit with a peach tie. Everyone else had a similar trend as him. I looked to see Hussain already staring at me, instantly I lowered my gaze and fixed my duppata. His family marched towards us and greeted us, giving me their blessing along the way. "I saw you checking me out," Hussain whispered beside me.

"Right, you only wish." I mumbled, before Hussain had a chance to reply Zara and Zain came to us. Zain was wearing a similar suit to Hussain, but his was a little lighter, in contrast, Zara was wearing an elbow length, peach/pink blouse and a stunning simple saree.

"You two look fabulous!" I complimented them with honesty.

"Thank you, you look amazing!" Gushed Zara.

"Thank you," I said politely.

"Thanks... Afir-" Zain stopped, "No bhabs." He said proudly

"Bhabs?" I asked him, confused.

"Haan. Bhabs. Simple for Bhabi." He said, I gave him a look.

"Leave him Bhabi. So from today we'll be calling you Bhabi, right Bhai?" Zara asked for Hussain's approval.

"Correct."

"Where's Hafsa and Afak?" I asked.

"Their over there somewhere, probably messing about." Zara rolled her eyes, I let out a little chuckle.

Just then, a little girl, about the age of 14 came and asked Hussain and I, she was wearing a pink salwar kameez, she looked gorgeous, MashAllah, "excuse me, can I take a picture of both of you?"

Zara gave her a sweet smile before reacting, "Of-course sweetie, acha Bhai and Bhabi smile," Zara instructed. Hussain shuffled closer to me, I sneakily shuffled back, not wanting anyone to notice. The little girl snapped some pictures, thanked us than run along to her parents with the camera in her hands.

"Stop moving," Hussain demanded.

"Well stop coming closer to me," I retorted back, irritated.

"It's our engagement so for pictures we've got to stay close."

"Right, there's a limit, and if you cross the limit then I will cross mine too. It's my engagement yaar, let me be in peace." I groaned.

"You mean 'our' engagement," he corrected.

"MashAllah, your fiancée is beautiful." A random said in Hindi, admiring me.

"Haan, haan. Obviously she is. She's going to be Mrs Asif, and to be Mrs Asif you've got to be beautiful," Hussain said, he was being an egotistical jerk again.

"I feel sorry for Bhabi, she'll have to deal with you every single day, sorry Bhabi," Zara came and sat next to me, followed by Sana and Aaliyah.

"Ar-e! She should be honoured to be my wife," Hussain argued.

"Bhai, it's the other way around, you should be honoured to have her as your wife. Now stop messing with Bhabi aur I'll tell Ammi!" Zara threatened Hussain.

"Ammi ki bachi! Why are you sticking up for you 'Bhabi' and not your brother?"

"Khon 'Ammi ki bachi?'" Sureya Chachi asked, with her hands on her hips.

"Nahi- Ammi... I-" Hussain stammered.

"Leave it, it's time for you two to eat and then put rings on each other, Afira beta come with me," Chachi Ji instructed.

"Ji Chachi,"

"Oh, you shouldn't call me Chachi anymore, call me Ammi, and call your Chacha Abbu," Ammi touched my cheeks, and smiled.

"Haan, haan. Have your moment. Leave me. Go on," Hussain sulked, Zara giggled, "go ahead, laugh. Women." Zara got up and walked away with Ammi and me.

Presently, we had finished digesting our food, music was playing and people came up to take my picture, or talk to me and give me their blessings. Sana and Aaliyah have been with me throughout the function, I was sitting down gossiping with some friends when Hussain came and pulled me towards him, excusing himself and me. He took my hand and said, "I see your relishing the function?"

"Of course I am, it's my engagement so why shouldn't I enjoy it?" I pointed out, I walked away, trying my best to get away from him but he grabbed my hand and jerked me towards him. I heard a priest saying something in Hindi, "Baalika Tumhare Sapno Ka Raajkumar, Aa Raha Hai. Varmala Doli Baarat Sajake Dulha, Cha Raha Hai Shubhmangal Savadhan!" Mera 'sapno ka raajkumar?'

... And the music started!

Hey Ya...

Hey Ya...

Hey Ya...

Hussain danced around me, with every movement he made my body quivered in fear.

Heeriye Sehra Baandh Ke Main Toh Aaya Re...

Hey Ya...

Doli Baarat Bhi Saath Mein Main Toh Laaya Re...

Hey Ya...

Heeriye Sehra Baandh Ke Main Toh Aaya Re...

Hey Ya...

Doli Baarat Bhi Saath Mein Main Toh Laaya Re...

Ab Toh No Hota Hai Ek Roz Intezaar

Soni Aaj Nahi Toh Kal Hai Tujhko Toh Bas Meri Honi Re...

Hussain widened his eyes and came towards to hug me but I broke him away.

Tenu Leke Main Javanga, Dil Deke Main Javanga...

Tenu Leke Main Javanga, Dil Deke Main Javanga...

Hey Ya...

Hey Ya...

Hey Ya...

Hey Ya...

Aa Keh De Zamane Se, Tu Mere Ishq Ki Hai Daastaan

Hey Ya...

Hey Ya...

Everyone started to sing along, one by one everyone circled us and started dancing around us.

O Jaaniya Keh De Bahaane Se

Main Tera Jism Hoon, Tu Meri Jaan

Kuch Na Chupa

Mushkilon Se Milta Hai Aisa Sona Pyar

Soni Cheez Tere Jaisi Na Mujhko Na Mujhko Khoni Re

Tenu Leke Main Javanga, Dil Deke Main Javana...

Tenu Leke Main Javanga, Dil Deke Main Javana...

I covered my face in embarrassment, I tried to walk away but he'd grab me or people will block my way. The drums and trumpets started to play making me giggle and shake my head.

Jaan Aise Na Tadpa Ke Dekh

Le Madhbhare Andaaz Se

Hey Ya...

Hey Ya...

He winked at me, making red shades to enter my cheeks.

O Jaan Tu Awaaz Ko Apni Aa Mila Ab Meri Awaaz Se

Are Haan Keh De Haan

Hussain waited for an answer, I bit my lips but then grinned.

Kar Diya Hai Tune Mujhko Yun Bekaraar

Maahi Keh Diya Duniya Se Main Teri Main Teri Ho Gayi Re

Tere Naal Mein Aavaangi, Sasooral Mein Jaavaangi

I mimed and danced angelically.

Hey Tenu Leke Main Javanga, Dil Deke Main Javanga

Hey Ya...

Hey Ya...

Hey Ya...

Hey Ya...

Hussain pulled me, got on to his knees, got a blue box out of his pocket, took something out and inserted in my finger. I gasped in amazement, everyone clapped in the background. I took my hand from him and looked at the ring... Vera Wang... It was a silver ring, it had a diamond in the middle and silver stones. In between the silver stones there were royal blue stones. I laughed to myself, how unique was this? Sana squeezed my shoulders and gave me side hug. Sameer Bhai handed me the box that had Hussain's ring inside it, it was a round, silver band. I slowly took it out and implanted it on Hussain's left hand's finger. There was another round where everyone clapped. Within seconds a lantern popped and inside came out rose petals. It was raining petals. The petals fell upon me, every touch was soft and delicate. I shut my eyes, taking in what they were giving. Everything felt... Unrealistic.... This only happens in films... I hope this wasn't dream... The red luscious petals escalated from my skin falling onto the floor. Hussain came behind me and whispered, "None of this is a dream," I looked up to his eyes, which were the colour of earth kissed by the spring rain.

"It's so..." I thought of the right word.

"Unrealistic? Filmy?" He completed my sentence. But will he complete my life?

"Yes."

"It's for you, you believe only certain things happen in films, so I'll prove you not everything happens in films." I felt my heart flutter with every single word that came out of his mouth. Everything he has done so far... Was immaculate! I was loss of words.

"You don't need to say anything, just smile, so I'll know you're happy." I stared into his chocolate brown ocean. He can read my mind, but can he hear my heart? "Thank God all those Aunties moved away, they were spying on us for the entire functions!" I raised an eyebrow. "I'm sorry I was so close, it was because those Aunties were spying and Ammi asked me to make this day very special for you, sorry, I got to call a friend. Talk to you later?" My smile dropped into a frown, my heart clenched and my eyes were welling. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath and smiled back at him.

"You only did that to make Ammi happy?" I asked.

"Yeah. Don't take it serious... After all, Afiraand Hussain are like oil and water. They don't mix. We can never be together. That's what you said, right?" He didn't even wait for my response, but strolledaway... Leaving me heart broken. Finally, I thought I was falling for Hussain butthis was all an act. Only an act. Wait a go Afira, karma. I inhaled and exhaledto keep myself from crying. Is that how he felt? Heartbroken?
