"A real man never hurts a woman. Be careful when you make a woman cry because God counts her tears. The woman came out of a man's rib, not from his feet to be walked on, and not from his head to be superior, but from his side to be equal, under the arm to be protected, and next to the heart to be loved."

Afira's P.O.V

Often when kids get the 'talk' their very nervous, I was getting the 'talk' too, however not about intercourse, how babies are made or anything else, but it was about my actions towards the heir of the Asif family. Ammi was very upset, she never expected this from me, but what could I say, Hussain always brought out the worst in me.

"Afira, pay attention." My mother snapped.

"Ji, I am paying attention." I mumbled.

"Oh really? Please repeat what I've just said. Maybe just 15 seconds ago?" Ammi insisted, I hesitated for a second.

"Let me repeat myself Afira; try to listen," my dad coaxed, "Your uncle, Usma and I have decided that... Hussain and you are no longer getting married, it's for the best." I promptly looked up to my parents to check if they were serious. In fact, they were. This must be a dream. I'm no longer going to be the wife of a demon. This must be a miracle, only Allah knows. Nevertheless, I remembered my parents, they wanted me to get married to Hussain, they looked unsettled. I was about to speak when my mother restricted me from doing so.

"I know what you're going to say. We're not upset, angry nor are we happy. We just want the best for you. If you're going to get married to Hussain and kill each other in two days, then we cannot let that happen, can we?" I shook my head, and smiled. How do my parents know me so well? "Good, now that doesn't mean we're not going to search Mr Perfect, actually, we've already started searching." I buried my face into my palms in grief.

"At least you're not getting married to Hussain, just like you wanted. And the first one is actually on their way in... An hour." My dad said, checking his watch.

"Now, I'll come up later, to check on you, but first I'll go prepare the food, you better get ready soon." My parents got up to do their duty, I was in so much shock that I could not believe my parents just started searching for a man, without asking me. Typical Asian parents.

I went up and wore a mint blue saree with simple black borders, black blouse that had a lace style at the top. I thought to put my hair in a simple bun, Ammi entered informing that the family have come, "Also, your looking elegant in that saree." I smiled at her compliment, we went down and met with the family.

"AsalamWalayKum Aunty, Uncle and..." I looked towards them.

"WalayKumAsalam Afira, this is my son Ikraam." Aunty introduced me, he then quietly greeted me. I took a seat and waited until this was all over, our parents spoke about irrelevant subject as well as relevant, after a while they allowed Ikraam and me to talk together.

"AsalamWalyKum, what's your name?" He asked nervously.

"WalayKumAsalam. My name's Afira Siddeka Abdullah." I replied back, not looking very bothered, which I wasn't.

"My name's Ikraam."

"Yawn." I rolled my eyes, why was I being a bitch? I do not have the answer to that question.

"Do you work?" He asked politely.

"Yeah. I do what I want when I want." Damn, I was acting like a bitch, I know but I couldn't stand him so far. Why was he so nervous? Isn't it meant to be vice-versa?

"Oh. Um... What are your hobbies?" Ikraam bite his lips in fear.

"Sleeping, eating and sleeping." I answered back harshly.

"Would you like to umm... Have kids one day?" He held the glass full of water and took a sip.

"No. I've already got six." My sudden response caught him off guard because he choked on his water.

"Ammi! Abbu! Let's go!" He quickly grabbed his coat and rushed outside, his parents followed him outside and gave us an apologetic look.

"What did you say to him that you made him run away?" My mom folded her arms across her chest.

"He asked if I'd like to have children one day and I said no I already have six." I gave my mom a bored expression, my dad snickered.

"How could you? And why are you laughing?" My mom scowled both of us.

"Don't blame my daughter, he was the one who fell for it. Stupid." My dad hugged me.

"Well, there's another family coming so don't bother to get changed." My mom said casually. Seriously? I huffed and went upstairs. My mom is definitely crazy. Time for rishta number two, and they'll be arriving in an hour. Great. Two rishtas in one day? That's a mission, that I happen to have completed.

"We'll allow the kids to talk to each other." Hassan's Mom and my parents shut the door and left us to talk. That's what his name is, Hassan.

"Can you have children?" He asked easily, I looked up in disturbance.

He carried on rambling as he knew I would not answer. "My last wife couldn't give me son, therefore it led to a divorce. She kept bickering, it gave me a headache, my mother didn't like her either, so she ended up in hospital... I guess you know what happened to her... She did partly deserve it..." He spoke in Hindi, I swallowed my saliva, I was appalled, it felt as if my brain short-circuited and needed to be rebooted.

"Ammi! Baba! I reject him!" I roared, Hassan jolt up his seat in surprise. Ammi and Baba rushed into my room, leading Hassan's mom to come here too.

"What happen beti?" Hassan's mother asked me.

"Oh. What happened? Let me tell you what your beloved son told me. His last wife was not able to give him a son, she spoke to much, you didn't like her either, you, as well as your son abused the lady and sent her off to the hospital. Do you understand now?" I explained, a gasp slipped out of Ammi's mouth, Baba and Hassan's mom was speechless.

An hour passed after the incident. What incident? We kicked Hassan and His mom out of our house after teaching them the value of women. Women are something we should all appreciate and value. They brought us to this beautiful world, they fulfilled their duty to be a mother, sister, wife and more. This world sometimes looks horrible but if you discover and explore a little more you'll see the real treasure, some mothers aren't the best, but they'll always want the best for you deep down inside their heart's. We should respect them. Remember, they went through so much pain just for us, so we could take a step into this world. Just because a lady talks too much you should never play with her dignity, remember a woman brought you into this world, so you have no right to disrespect one. No matter how annoying they get never raise your hand on them, use your hands to protect them, not hurt them.
