SILLY QUESTIONS

"I have a silly question," I told my teacher

As I raised my hand above my head.

"The only silly questions," she replied,

"Are those that go unsaid."

"Where does the color purple live?

What's one plus two times green?

How do you make water wet?

How do you eat a limousine?

"If seven bananas ate a bird

On the twenty-eighth day of the week,

How many peppers would it take

To fix its uninjured beak?

"How many minutes until half-past A?

How many circles in seventeen?

Which dessert is your favorite—

Blue or an old canteen?"

My teacher just stared in silence,

Not a groan or even a gasp.

Next time, I won't raise my hand,

And my questions will remain unasked.
