MONSTER-EATING MONSTERS

Sam the monster and Joe the monster

Passed by and said, "Good morning."

But both were feeling famished

And attacked without a warning.

Sam fell down as he knocked down Joe,

Then began to eat his feet.

But if Joe was going to be breakfast,

Then he'd have one last feast.

So Joe ate Sam as Sam ate Joe,

They slurped and nibbled and munched.

The sun grew hot as the day wore on,

So they rolled in the shade as they lunched.

Though it's impolite to speak

With a mouth jammed full of food,

Sam gave Joe a compliment,

And Joe answered not to be rude.

"Your legs are tender—they taste divine,"

Said Sam, with a burp and a wheeze.

"Well, I must say," said Joe to Sam,

"I've never had knees like these!"

They kept on nibbling and swallowing—

Legs, hips, stomach, and chest.

They praised each bite of their peculiar feast,

Insisting the other tastes best.

At last, to his neck, Joe ate Sam,

And Sam did the same to Joe.

What happened next, I cannot explain—

And I doubt I'll ever know.

Sam and Joe both opened wide,

And each took one last bite.

I'll never forget what I saw that day—

Such a strange and curious sight.

For Sam ended up inside of Joe,

And Joe was inside of him.

Was Sam turned inside out?

Or was Joe turned outside in?

And now, my friend, we're at the end

Of this monstrosity of a tale.

But before you go, heed these words,

And learn this lesson well:

If you're feeling hungry,

Pack your lunch in a box or sack.

And never, ever, ever eat

A meal that might eat you back.
