004. the magicians

It was a nice summer day, meaning that the walk was enjoyable for the couple. They were able to see the stage set up from quite a ways away.

Making their way to the table that had been set up for the sale, they began arranging the delectables on the flat surface.

They hadn't even noticed that by the time they were done, Wanda and Vision's performance was already beginning.

Pietro stepped away for a moment to grab Remedy and himself chairs.

Throughout the performances, occasionally someone would come up and buy a cupcake.

"I want to thank you all for coming out to support Westview Elementary, 'For the children.'" Dottie began.

Everyone in the audience recited her statement of 'for the children'.

"And for our final act... I give you, Wanda and Vision." Dottie finished, introducing the two as she stepped down from the stage and Wanda stepped out from behind the curtains.

"Hello, Westview! Good afternoon. It's so lovely to be—" Vision began, having to stop speaking as he bumped into the railing on his way up.

"I'm so sorry. Excuse me. I am Glamour and this is my delightful assistant, Illusion." He continued on, getting his and Wanda's names mixed in the process.

"I am Glamour and he's Illusion." Wanda corrected.

"Yeah, what she said. Today, we will lie to you and yet you will believe our little deceptions because human beings are easily fooled due to their limited understanding of the inner workings of the universe. Flourish!" Vision spoke fast and with surprising honesty.

"You just do it, you don't say it out loud, honey." Wanda informed her husband.

Remedy could tell as soon as he started talking that something wasn't right. He appeared almost loopy? But that wasn't possible. Vision is a robot.

Nonetheless, she shared her observations with Pietro. Both concluded that they would talk to Wanda and Vision after the show, not wanting to intrude and potentially mess up their plans.

Vision verbally scoffed and said, "And now my wife and I will delight in your dumbstruck little faces. Flourish!" He repeated the last part.

Vision began to fly, earning an audible grasp from Remedy and the rest of the adults watching in aw.

Thankfully, Wanda was a fast thinker. She quickly made it look like there was a pulley system behind him. Next, she purposefully moved a sign out of the way so someone would notice, and that someone happened to be Norm.

"Ha! See there? He's using a rope." Norm stated with enthusiasm.

Wanda took the pulley in her hands and started pulling it which then made Vision go up and down.

"Wanda, what's... Oh, no! Oh! No! Wanda, please! Darling, let me down!" Vision pleaded with his Wife.

"I'm feeling pukey!" He added.

Everyone watching laughed. Remedy and Pietro even cracked a few smiles themselves.

Once Wanda set Vision down and let go of the pulley, the audience clapped at the first part of their performance.

Vision looked around, trying to figure out what they would be doing next.

"Uh, what's next? Oh! Yeah, this is... This is gonna be great!" He looked at the piano that was placed upon the stage next to him and Wanda.

He walked over to the piano and lifted the large object with one arm.

"A staggering feat of strength!" Vision yelled into the crowd, trying to show them something that they wouldn't be able to believe.

He had gotten dozens of awed citizens looking up towards him.

"Eh?" He said, proud of the looks he accomplished getting.

"Illusion... Uh... Uh... Illusion, Master of Enigma, allow me." Wanda stated, more to the audience than to Vision.

"Yeah? What?" Vision inquired.

She walked over to where he was standing and took the piano from him. As she tried to walk away she 'accidentally' showed that the piano she was holding was actually just a cardboard cut-out.

The whole audience gasped as they realized it was, yet again, another trick they fell for.

Wanda peered over to them and smiled bashfully. "Whoops! You weren't supposed to see how we did that trick." She admitted.

The crowd laughed and clapped once more.

"That was my grandmother's piano." A man in the audience, Phil Jones, said aloud.

Vision looked around the crowd of people in front of him and Wanda so he could pick someone to help them out with the next trick.

"Oh, Sherbert! Yeah, this is my old mate, Sherbert. Stand up, Sherbert." Vision instructed, walking off the stage to join Herb in the crowd.

"Say hello to the crowd." Vision told him.

"It's Herbert, er- Herb." Herb finally corrected the robot.

Vision then pulled out a deck of playing cards.

"Pipe down, Sherbie, and pick a card. Any card. Yeah, put it back within the deck. I'm not looking." Vision said, holding out the deck of cards and looking the other way as to not see what card Herd had picked.

Herb picked his card and then returned it back to the deck in Vision held in his grasp.

"All right. Watch this." Vision paused as he shuffled the deck and pulled out a card.

"Is this your card?" Vision asked Herb, hopeful.

"Uh, no." Herb responded blankly.

"I beg to differ." Vision questioned.

Herb only shook his head. "Mmm-mmm."

"R-Really?" Vision said, shocked that his magic trick didn't work.

He tossed the card, picking a new one from the deck. "Is this your card?" Vision questioned.

"Vision..." Wanda warned him, knowing that he wouldn't stop until he picked Herb's card.

Herb once again shook his head. "Mmm-mmm." Came his response.

"Ugh! Is this your card? Is this your card? Is this your card? Is this your card? Is this your card?" Vision kept repeating, pulling out cards extremely fast and throwing them to the side or behind him whenever Herb answered no.

"Mmm-mmm."

"Argh! Is this your card? Is this your card?" Vision kept going.

"No. No. No. No."

"Is this your card? Is this your card? Is this your card? Is this your card? Is this your card?"

He had reached the last card in the deck, holding it up to Herb for the man to see clearly. "Is this your card?" Vision asked one last time.

"Oh, it is!" Herb said, recognizing his card.

"It is what?" Vision asked, confused.

"It's my card." Herb clarified.

"Well, pardon me, Herb. Have it back." Vision slapped the card against Herb's chest, annoyed.

"Oh, no, you did the trick right." Herb pointed out.

"Well, of course I did the trick right! I'm Illusion! Flourish!" Vision practically yelled into the crowd.

Wanda clapped as the rest of the crowd laughed and clapped along.

Remedy and Pietro knew that Vision wasn't in his right state of mind, but it was still funny to watch him make a fool out of himself.

They would laugh at every mistake he made and clap when he and Wanda performed  one of their tricks.

"And now, for my next trick..." Vision started, looking around him.

"Oh, goodness me." Wanda whispered to herself.

"Who stole my hat?" Vision shouted. His eyes landed on the rabbit fleeing the hat.

"Oh! Oh, stop that rabbit!" Vision commanded to nobody. "I gotta pull a hat out of it!" Vision said, mixing up his words once again.

Wanda walked over and grabbed Señor Scratchy. "Señor Scratchy's got real star quality, don't you think?" Agnes questioned charismatically.

Remedy had to hold her hand up to her lips to keep the giggles from escaping.

"Maybe we leave the poor bunny out of this one, shall we?" Wanda bargained with Vision.

Vision walked over and snatched the hat from off the floor. He contemplated what he was going to say next, knowing that Wanda would disagree with his decision.

"Well then, I'll just have to pull this hat... out of myself."

The audience gasped and Wanda ran over to her husband.

"Vision, no." Wanda tried speaking to him quietly.

"I'm doin' it!" Vision shouted , completely ignoring the worry on Wanda's face.

Vision took the hat in one hand and phased it through himself, grabbing the hat again with his other hand once it came through the front of his torso.

"Ah-ha!" Vision chuckled in victory.

"If only you knew our secret!" Wanda smiled awkwardly.

She pulled a string on the curtains, pushing them back. from behind the curtains a large array of mirrors could be seen, revealing how they did the trick.

Vision turned around noticing the mirrors. Once he did he let out a loud 'Oh'.

The audience, again, laughed.

"Is that how mirrors work?" Beverly asked, mostly speaking to herself.

"Shut up, Bev." Dottie moved herself so she could shush Beverly.

"And now, ladies and gentlemen, for our grand finale, I bring you, The Magnet of Crysteries!" Vision threw up his hands, showing the large cabinet that someone would be entering.

"The Cabinet of Mysteries!" Wanda once again corrected, wheeling out the cabinet for everyone to see.

"Yeah, yeah. What she said. I will now make my wife... disappear." Vision said, brushing off Wanda's initial sentence.

He opened the door to the cabinet, showing that it was in fact empty. Vision closed the double doors, starting the last trick of the day.

"Are you sure you don't want an audience volunteer named "My husband Ralph?" Agnes suggested, making everyone around her chuckle in amusement.

Vision looked down at her and laughed. "No. Abracadabra!"

He hit the cabinet with his wand, expecting something to happen inside the box of wood.

"Uh, sweetheart?" Wanda looked to Vision.

"Yeah?" Vision replied.

"Hi." Spoke Wanda.

"Oh." Came Vision's voice, realizing that he closed the box before Wanda could even get in.

"What's in the box?" Herb started "What's in the box?" Herb and Norm continued.

Soon enough, the whole crowd was joining in on the chanting.

"Yeah, what's in the box?" Vision quizzed himself.

The crowd continued the same chant a couple more times. Everyone was more than curious to see what would appear in the box once it was opened again.

Wanda nervously tapped her fingers against the hardwood. Her and Vision each took a door in one hand, opening them at the same time to reveal a very confused Geraldine.

Despite not knowing how she got there, Geraldine smiled into the audience while they applauded for the act.

"Oh! Oh, yes! Flourish!" Vision announced.

Both him and Wanda led Geraldine out of the box, each of them taking one of her hands into their own so they could all three bow together.

Remedy noticed that Wanda and Vision had moved to the back of the stage.

Knowing that everyone else around her was distracted she disappeared from the stand and reappeared with Wanda and Vision, leaving a cloud of light green shimmer where she was previously.

Of course Pietro knew of his wife's strange abilities, so he wasn't surprised with what she was doing. He knew that she was just going to check up on the two and would return to his side after she was done.

"What happened up there?" Remedy asked.

"Sorry. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. I'm so stupid." Vision confessed feeling guilty for ruining the show for Wanda.

"Vis? Vis, it's alright. It's alright. It's alright. It's alright. But what is going on with you?" Wanda asked, concern laced through her voice.

"I have no idea. I've been feeling weirdy all day!"

"Okay. Okay. Okay." Wanda repeated to try and calm down her husband's nerves. With a wave of her hand, Wanda was able to locate the problem within Vision's inner workings.

"Oh." The woman stated while she worked her magic to get rid of it.

Vision pulled the piece of gum that was lodged in his gears out of his mouth, looking at it with realization.

"Would you look at that? That really gummed up my works, didn't it?" The robot spoke, making a pun that got Remedy to giggle in the process.

"Hmm." Wanda hummed.

"Ah, I'm not as funny without it, am I?" Vision asked. Remedy just shook her head with a smile plastered on her bright face.

"I'm glad we got that figured out." Remedy said genuinely.

She looked at Wanda as she continued. "I better get back to Pietro before anyone notices I'm gone." Remedy told them.

Wanda nodded with a smile, letting her friend silently know that she was grateful that Remedy took the time to check on the two.

With another cloud of green shimmer, Remedy was gone, returning back to her and Pietro's cupcake stand.

As Remedy was sitting in her now cold seat and listening to Dottie's all but interesting speech, she could see from the corner of her eye, Wanda and Vision trying to flee the event.

Unfortunately, their disguise failed them and Dottie pointed at the two yelling a quick,

"You two, stop right there." They stopped upon her command and Wanda looked at her.

"Dottie we are so..." Wanda tried to explain what happened with the show to the blonde haired woman but she simply cut her off with her own sentence.

"Hilarious. That was the most hilarious act we've ever seen. Wouldn't you all agree?" Dottie ended her sentence with a nod towards the audience, which was answered with a whole round of applause.

"Oh, yes!" Vision exclaimed.

"You two, come on up. Come on." Dottie gestured for them to join her on stage. And the duo did just that.

"On behalf of the planning committee, I would like to award you with the inaugural Comedy performance of the year." Dottie handed Wanda a small gold trophy.

"Oh thank you!" The ginger said with a large grin.

The whole crowd stood up and clapped their hands for the couple who made them laugh so hard.

Looking off to the side Wanda saw Geraldine standing by herself. Wanda immediately shook her hand asking Geraldine to join her and Vision.

The three stood on stage bowing while also making small talk about the events that had occurred, however Remedy was too far away to hear what they were saying.

As they bowed one last time, Norm yelled 'for the children' one last time, which was accompanied by everyone else around him.

Now that the event was over everyone went back to their houses.

Remedy and Pietro packed up the few remaining cupcakes and exited the town square. For the two, the rest of the day was spent relaxing. Remedy surely needed it after what she had endured.

Everything was fine. The husband and wife were sitting at their coffee table playing a card game to satisfy their boredom.

That was until Remedy stood abruptly and walked over to the kitchen.

She grabbed a vase filled with vividly colored flowers in her arms. After doing so she walked back into the living room where Pietro had stood as well.

She took his hand in hers and in the blink of an eye they were looking at the front of Wanda and Vision's door.

In all honesty, Pietro wasn't too surprised. Despite being curious as to what Remedy was doing at his sister's house, it was ordinary that she would do things without any explanation. It was one of the traits that he learned to love about her.

Pietro took the liberty of knocking on the door.

The two were greeted by the warm smile of Wanda. She had absolutely no idea how Remedy already knew of the exciting news, but nonetheless she was ecstatic to tell her family about it.

Remedy and Pietro were welcomed in where Remedy soon placed the vase of flowers on the coffee table, located not too far away from the front door.

Once the woman had done so she looked at Wanda and hugged her tightly, which Wanda returned.

"Is this really happening?" Wanda asked.

"Of course it's happening, Wanda." Remedy told her.

"Congratulations sis." Pietro said to his twin and her husband.

The moment was sadly interrupted by a loud sound coming from outside.

"If it's that damn tree again, I am going to rip it out by the roots!" Vision exclaimed, stomping up to the door. The other's followed in his tracks.

Wanda had stopped in front of Vision, shocked at what she was seeing before her eyes. Soon after Pietro and Remedy were looking at the same sight.

Pietro has pushed Remedy behind himself protectively. Remedy had taken her husband's hand and squeezed it tightly, not knowing what the man they were looking at would do.

There, in front of them, was a man dressed in a beekeeper suit. He was climbing out of an open sewer and onto the street.

"What's happening?" Remedy asked Wanda. It was audible by the shaking in the poor girl's voice how scared she truly was.

Instead of responding, Wanda continued to stare at the man.

"No." Wanda spoke in a low tone.

With that one word, the four were back in the house. Almost as if nothing had happened at all. The conversation from earlier continued.

"How did you know? We haven't told anyone the news yet." Wanda asked.

"Oh, Wanda." Remedy waved her hand. "I'm your best friend. I don't have to be told. I just... know." Was Remedy's response.

Everyone else in the room looked at the brunette like she was crazy, but she just brushed off their looks.

She placed her hand on Wanda's stomach and began speaking again. "Oh, I do hope it's a little boy." Remedy voiced her wishes.

Before anyone could respond to her, Remedy was out the door in an instant.

"I still don't know how she-" Vision started.

"She does that a lot. She just knows things. But that's one more reason for me to love her." Pietro cut off Vision, already knowing what he would be asking.

"Pietro, you married one confusing woman. But I swear, what would we do without her?" Wanda said.

Pietro nodded with a smile, knowing that Wanda was correct.

After saying his goodbyes to his sister and brother-in-law before leaving, he joined Remedy in the place they were so lucky to call home.
