Part 9- Something New

Greya's POV...

"Grey, do you have to leave for the whole weekend?" Chase whines while following me around the house.

"Don't worry little man, you get to hang out with me all weekend!" Fynn answers him.

"Really! Yes! Pizza every night!" Chase shouts with excitement before running up to his room.

I look at Fynn who's sitting at my kitchen counter watching me write down every important detail he needs to remember while I'm gone.

"Are you writing a book?" He laughs at me. "You do realize it's only two nights, I can handle it."

"I can't believe you even talked me into going, I've never left them before," I admit.

"Greya, this is important to you. You deserve to put yourself first once in a while."

"It's not that simple Fynn. Gram and Chase need me, I can't just leave them here while I go off to college," I fire back with a more irritated tone than I meant it to be.

Fynn gets up from the stool and walks over to me. He takes the pen out of my hand and sets in down on the counter then spins me around to face him.

"I don't know what I'm supposed to do," I sniffle.

Fynn wraps his arms around me and pulls me in for a hug. "I'm sorry, I know it's not easy, I just wish I knew how to help my favorite girl," he says while hugging me tighter.

"Fynn, you help me more than you know, more than I could ever thank you enough for...Thank you."

"I'll always help you Grey, now get packed before Ari gets here. I've got to order the little man some pizza," he chuckles.

I walk by Gram's room on the way up to my room. She's been sleeping a lot lately, I hope she's feeling alright. I lightly knock on the door and she slowly sits up in her bed. "Hi sweetheart, are you ready for your trip?"

"Yes Grams. Will you be alright while I'm gone? Fynn will be here looking after Chase so don't be afraid to ask for his help if you need it," I tell her.

"Oh Greya, always taking care of me. How did I get so lucky to have a beautiful and kind granddaughter like you?"

"I think I'm the lucky one who has an amazing grandmother like you," I answer her while giving her a kiss on her cheek.

"Love you Grams. I'll call every night."

Chase is listening to his music when I walk into his room to say goodbye. "Come here and give me a hug, I'm leaving now," I hold out my hands waiting for him to jump into my arms.

"Be good for Fynn this weekend and have fun."

"I will Greya, you have fun too and show those coaches how you're the best player on the field," he beams at me.

"Okay, I will," I give him a squeeze.

"Greya! Let's go! We're going to be late!" Ari shouts from downstairs.

I grab my carryon and my soccer bag and jog down the stairs. Fynn and Ari are at the door waiting for me. I give Fynn a worried look and he already knows what I'm thinking. "Stop worrying, now go!" He says and practically pushes me out the door.

"So, just the four of us huh!"

"Ya, we get to spend the weekend with Declan and Becker, isn't that great?" Ari nudges me.

"Declan is so funny and Becker, well... he's Becker," she shrugs.

"Exactly, he's Becker. That means he's going to spend the entire weekend trying to compete with me and gloat about it after," I remind her.

"Maybe, maybe not," she shrugs again.

" Are you finally going to admit your feelings for Declan this weekend? We all know how he feels about you, Ar. You can't keep giving him false hopes," I chuckle.

"Sure I can," she laughs back. "Seriously though, wouldn't it be cool if we both played for UCLA, I know he wants to play for them as much as I want to and since Cohen already accepted his offer there, it's even better!"

"Yes, that would be cool." I smile.

A van picks the four of us up at the school. "Let's get going, we have a three hour ride ahead of us with this traffic," The driver hurries us along.

Ari and I take the front row while the guys take the back. Declan entertains us for the first hour, he has his beats on so he can't hear us, but we sure can hear him and his awful singing.

"Are you just going to sit here and stare at the back of her head or are you going to talk to her," Declan asks Becker a little too loudly.

Ari starts cracking up and then decides to stand up. "I'm going to sit with Dec for a bit, I'll tell Becker to come sit with you," she winks and I roll my eyes.

"Becker, go keep Grey company will you," she says to him as she slides herself into the back row next to Declan.

Becker slowly gets up and makes his way to the front. He glides his body into the seat next to mine and keeps his head down. This is awkward. We haven't spoken since the bathroom episode, but silence from him always has me worried.

"Hey," I say, looking in his direction.

He picks his head up to look at me and smiles, "hey."

"Your injuries are healing, your face doesn't look so bad," I attempt to joke with him.

"Yeah, thank you again, you know... for helping me," he scratches the back of his head like he's unsure of himself. This is a new side of him I haven't seen much of before.

"Are you going to tell me what really happened?" I ask.

"Probably not," he says and looks behind him and then looks at me again.

"To be honest, I was expecting you to banter with me about which one of us will make the better impression this weekend," I admit to him.

"Thought I'd try something new," he smirks, looking all around again. He's obviously uncomfortable sitting here but doesn't want to make a big deal of it.

"Well, I like this something new," I smile making him smile in return. Then I decide to stand up.

"Where are you going?" He asks confused.

I look back to Declan and Ari who are happily sharing song lists. "Hey guys, mind switching seats with us? I want to sit in the back for the rest of the trip."

Becker's big blue eyes staring at me, his lips parted like he wants to say something but he doesn't. He follows me to the back row while Declan and Ari take the front.

Silence again. So, I take my phone and air pods out of my backpack. I can feel his gaze on me, still unsure of what to say. I knew he would feel more comfortable sitting in the back even though he may not ever be ready to confess why.

I hand him one of my air pods and I place the other one in my own ear, then I lean my head back against the seat and close my eyes. "I get car sick in the front, it's better if I sit back here," I say nonchalantly, keeping my eyes closed.

I wait a few moments before peering one eye open to look at him. My air pod is in his ear and his eyes are closed. His head is back against the seat like mine and his full pink lips turned slightly upwards, forming a peaceful smile.

The music in my ear drowns out Ari and Declan's constant chatter and it's not long before Becker's head is tilted to the side and I hear faint snoring.
