Part 27 -Wanted

Greya's POV...

"Wake up buddy, we need to get ready for school," I rub Chase's back until he stirs. He had a rough night last night. His circadian rhythm was off is what his doctor would say. Sometimes he has nights when it takes him hours to fall asleep and in the morning it's difficult to wake him up. He usually ends up taking a nap at school later in the day.

" I've put your clothes on the side of your bed for you, I'll be back in a few minutes to see if you're dressed."

"Okay, okay," he mumbles back.

I go into the bathroom and braid my hair, then brush my teeth. On my way back to my bedroom, I peek into Chase's room and see he is almost dressed. I still need to pack my soccer stuff and make Chase some breakfast.

As I gather my jersey and cleats, the doorbell rings. Who is at my door this early?

"Chase, come downstairs when you finish putting your clothes on," I shout while running down to see who's at the door.

Becker is standing on my doorstep wearing dark jeans and a black fitted t-shirt. His dark hair hanging just above his brows. I can't help staring at him when I open the door.

"Morning beautiful!" He smiles, dimples and all.

" Morning, Handsome. What are you doing here?" Not that I don't want him here, I'm just surprised.

"I thought I'd give my two favorite people a ride to school this morning," he shrugs.

" Yes! Can Becker bring us to school Grey?" Chase excitedly says as he runs down the stairs.

" Sure, but we are running behind this morning. I still need to finish getting ready and make him breakfast,"I tell them both.

"I'll make him something to eat, you go finish what you need to," Becker surprises me again.

"Okay...Thank you!"

Chase grabs Becker's arm and Becker is remarkably accepting  of the unexpected contact. Maybe he's fine because Chase is a child and knows a child like Chase won't hurt him. I watch as Chase drags Becker into the kitchen and explains where the waffles are. "How do you like them? Butter, syrup, both?" Becker asks him. "Definitely both," Chase boasts. The two of them interacting melts my heart. Becker is good with kids. Now that I think about it, he had to raise his little brother just like I have.

"Get ready Love, we're going to be late," he catches me staring at them.

I mouth a 'Thank you' to him and jog back up to my room. Minutes later I return to the kitchen to find Becker clearing up the dishes while Chase tells him an animated recap of the new Hulk comic he read yesterday.

"You guys ready to go?" I ask. " Your coat is on the hook and shoes by the door," I remind Chase.

Becker watches Chase navigate the furniture, feel the wall for his hanging coat, then brush his foot along the floor by the door until he feels a shoe. He seems curious and amazed at what Chase can do without his sight.

"Are you sure you want to drive us? Chase's school is a few miles out of the way," I double check with him so he knows what my mornings consist of.

"Of course I'm sure, navigate the way Love," he motions towards the door.

Chase talked our ears off the entire drive to his school. He told Becker who all his teachers are, his daily schedule, about the playground. Becker intently listened to it all and even entertained Chase with a few questions.

We pull up to his school and I hand Chase his walking stick. He climbs out of the car," Thanks for the ride Becker, love you Grey," he says as he slams the car door shut.

"Hey, hold up a sec.. fist bump?" Becker asks Chase. Chase takes a side step closer to where Becker hangs his arm out the driver window. He holds out a closed fist towards the window and Becker gives it a bump. "See you later, bud. Have a great day at school," Becker tells him. "Okay! And Fynn's bringing me to your game today right Greya?"

" Yes he is! Love you Chase!" I tell him.

Becker slowly drives away after making sure Chase finds his teacher. I can't tear my eyes away from this amazing guy next to me. Makes me sad that I didn't get to know him until now. Underneath the perfect facade, he's really unselfish, caring, and perfectly imperfect. His flaws are what make him real and I can't wait to learn more about him. Let's hope he feels the same about me.

"What?" he smiles and asks me. I must've been gawking at him a little too long.

I shake my head, trying to hide my flushed face. "You astound me, that's all," I admit.

"What do you mean Love?"

" I don't know... This persona you put forth at school... I know why now," I hesitate, just thinking about what he endures at home makes me sad. "But the way you were with Chase this morning goes to show that there is so much more to you...I really like this you!"

I gaze out my window, thinking about how nice it would be for someone to accept all of me and be able to share me with Chase. It's a lot to ask if someone.

"Hey, what's wrong," he reaches for my hand.

"Mornings like today are my norm, Beck. I've never had a boyfriend before because I didn't think anyone would want me with all the responsibilities I have. Chase and I are a package deal, I have to always do what's best for him now. I just want to make sure you know what you're getting into," I lay all the cards out in front of him. It's up to him to make a deal.

"Listen...I know what it's like to take care of a younger brother, how to put him first before my own needs. I commend you for what you do. Chase is a great kid and believe me, you've done more for him than I've seen from a lot of other parents," he squeezes my hand.

"I want to be here for you and Chase. I want you to be able to count on me for anything both of you may need. I  know I need to be better for you Grey. I know I have some messed up issues, but you've been helping me with them. If anything, I'm  afraid of being the person who no one wants," he tells me.

This time I squeeze his hand and we drive to school in comforts silence, knowing that we both want each other no matter what baggage we bring into this relationship.
