Part 1
"Now, Sophie, you know what I expect of you," my mother, Styx, said in her soft, yet menacing voice.
"Yes, mother," I said quietly.
"Very good. Now, recite your pledge." she commanded.
I took a deep breath. "I do swear, by Styx's name, pledge to serve her with all my being. If I must die for her, I will have no qualms. She will resurrect me from the land of the dead, and when she takes reigns supreme, I will be a goddess in my own right, free to do as I please. Her Majesty, Styx, is already the mightiest of the gods, and it is a great honor and privilege to serve her."
Styx smiled. "And what will you do in the land above?"
"I will make acquaintance of the Olympian gods, especially the goddess of bones, Saffron. I will gain their trust, and slowly undermine their strengths and make known their weaknesses. Then, Styx will come with her great army. I shall join them. We will cast the Olympians, aside from those loyal to us, into the dark depths of Tartarus. Then we will all be dieties and rule by Styx's side forever."
"Very good indeed, my daughter," Styx cooed. "And when I take over, you will be second only to me."
I will not lie, the thought of being the second most powerful goddess in creation aside from my mother completely thrilled me. I gave Styx a nod.
Styx smiled again. "Now go forth, Sophie."
I nodded. "Yes, mother."
I started walking towards the portal Styx has been working on. It was still a work in progress, and I was going to be the first one to use it. I turned around to face Styx again before I stepped backwards into the portal. She held out two sheathed daggers to me.
"These two weapons are the second best blades in the universe, aside from the Tibetan Phurba Dagger, which has the power to trap anyone, mortal or god, in it."
I took the weapons and attached the two sheaths to my belt.
"These have different powers. They have the ability to kill, absolutely, but if you do not desire for the one you hit with the blade to die, then they will give you temporary control of the victim's mind. They will do anything you wish for them to do, and they will feel the way you do. The spell will only last for a few days, a week at most, but they will be permanently affected by your control. Be careful, Sophie, and do not let anyone win you over to the gods' side. Saffron has the ability to charm her enemies into joining her. One last reminder: she and all of the gods are evil, they will kill you should they know of your mother's identity, and when you succeed and we take over the world, you will be the princess of creation."
I nodded and stepped into the portal. There was a deep humming noise, and dark purple sparks flew between the black stone frame. My vision started to blur, and my mother's voice gave me five last words.
"Do not fail me, Sophie."
Then the world turned dark.
Once I came to, I was standing in a beautiful lush forest, unlike anything I have ever seen before. In the underworld there were only Persephone's pomegranate trees and the occasional white poplar tree growing along the River Cocytus.
I turned around but saw no portal there. I stepped out from the trees and saw a lively marketplace full of actual alive people, much different then the souls from Erebus.
Beyond the market loomed a large mountain, it's peak lost in the snowy white clouds. I assumed that the mountain was Olympus. I took a deep breath.
Here I go.
