A toast to the groom (Only chapter)
Dedicated to LaurensDeLafayette
~Flashback~
I watched him as he smiled lovingly towards Hamilton. And I smiled, masking my pain.
"Yo Lafayette, you alright?" Hercules asked me from behind, waving his hand in my face.
I immediately snapped out of my trance and looked back at my best friend.
"Oui... I'm fine," I blinked a couple of times, then my charming grin reappeared in my face.
"Yeah... you looked kinda down for a moment." He looked behind me and his cheeks immediately turned pink.
I rolled my eyes and smiled, "Peggy again right?"
He blushed, "Yeah... her."
"Go talk to 'er man!" I nudged him.
"B-but I can't!" He stuttered.
"God 'erc, you've talked to 'er countless times before!"
He took a deep breath and looked at me with determination, but before he could stand up, Alexander and John came over, with the Schuylers trailing behind.
"Guys, I need to tell you something," Hamilton announced, looking at John and smiling.
Oh no. He's not...
I bit my lip and masked the tears pooling in my eyes with a smirk.
"What is it mon ami?"
I expected him to kiss John, but then he turned to a very flustered Eliza and announced, much to John and I's surprise.
"Eliza and I are dating,"
Woah.
What a change of scene.
John smiled, but tears were running up his beautiful hazel eyes. He didn't let it show however, he put an arm around the couple's shoulders and cheered.
"When's the wedding guys?" He joked.
Alex and Eliza laughed, their cheeks bright red, and looked away awkwardly.
"Imma go to the bathroom guys, I'll be back soon,"
I looked at the freckled guy leave hurriedly and my heart dropped.
"You like him don't you?" Hercules asked."
"Oui,"
"Pegs, c'mere!" Hercules called.
"Sup Herc!" Peggy skipped towards us and sat beside the tailor, looking back at me.
"What happened to him? Oh no, don't tell me he's crushing on Alexander too,"
I shook my head, tears falling finally.
"He's crushing on John." Hercules answered.
~End of flashback~
I looked at my reflection in the mirror and sighed. I was in the bathroom at my best friend's wedding party.
I had a navy blue suit on and my fluffy chestnut hair was tightly tied up in a bun despite it starting to fall apart, I had terrible eyebags and a tearstruck face but who cared? Not me certainly, and not John either.
"Yo Lafayette! You in there?"
I didn't answer even though I knew well who was knocking.
"I'll be out soon John."
I hadn't called him mon ami, or mon chéri, or mon amour as I sometimes did. Only John.
"If you're crying in there, could you let me in so we can cry together?"
Merde. He knows there's something wrong with me, he... he needs to cry too.
I slowly unlock the door and sit behind it, waiting for him to open it and knock me senseless.
But he didn't.
Instead the door creaked open barely an inch so that he could squeeze inside, then closed again. I felt the freckled man sit beside me with his knees up, just like me. I felt his head on mu shoulder, his fluffy bronze hair tickling the back of my neck.
"So, mon ami... I feel bad asking what the matter is, but you can... 'ow you say? Rant. I'll listen." I said softly.
Then he broke down to sobs.
I wrapped my arms around his body, sat him on my lap and let him sob into my chest, running my fingers through his silky ponytail.
"H-he's married now... to a woman. I-I don't have anything against E-Eliza, but she... A-A-Alex seduced me, he made me fall for him, then h-hurt me. He played m-me. I-I thought he loved me, b-but then the Schuylers c-came over a-and he flirted with them. He seduced them r-right in front of m-me."
His sobs eventually died out and were replaced by occasional and soft hiccups.
"Mon amour... everything will be fine. You will find another love, date and maybe marry them... and Alex will not be able to hurt you again."
"B-but until then? I-I don't want something like Francis happen to me again," He clutched tightly onto my shirt.
"Nothing will happen with me by your side mon ange. I'll be there for you." I said as I kissed his hair lightly, causing some sad giggles erupt from his rose coloured lips.
"Bon Jovi."
I smiled tenderly. "Oui,"
"Y'know Laf?"
"Oui?"
"We have so much more in common than we'd like to see," His quiet voice cut the silence around us. "Like music taste, for example."
I smiled at my freckled friend.
"Chéri, why don't we go somewhere... that's not the bathroom? Too many music references in 'ere," I whispered to his hair.
"Sure. You don't wanna be Michael anymore?" He joked.
"Mon dieu John." I rolled my eyes playfuly and stood up, carrying him with me.
John squealed; nevertheless, he didn't complain and neither did I.
He was stradling my hips with his arms tightly wrapped onto my neck for his dear life. My arms around his sides and securing him tightly.
We stood there in silence, looking at each other intensely.
His freckled face, slightly pink; his once neatly combed hair that was now messy because of how much he ran his fingers through it previously... and his eyes. Mon dieu, his eyes.
Those beautiful hazel eyes that looked curiously into mine, that sparkled with enthusiasm or clouded with worry, that lit up my whole world.
My gaze slowly ran down to his soft, pink lips, but soon snapped back to his eyes, feeling my cheeks turn pink.
"L-Laf?" He murmured.
"Oui mon amour?"
"C-could you... er... put me down?"
I felt a burning sensation rush up my cheeks as I looked down.
"O-oh, S-sure, désole." I quickly apologised, stumbling over my words.
Once he was on his feet again, he smirked at me, speaking in a low but husky voice.
"Not that I wasn't enjoying it, but I'm startin' to get thirsty. Meet me outside in five?"
I felt my cheeks go redder, if possible, and I only nodded.
"Great, see you soon Laf," He winked at me and left.
"See you soon mon amour," I whispered.
Blink.
Blink.
I rushed outside the bathroom and towards the exits, moving as fast as the crazy dancing people would let me. Suddenly, I bumped into someone.
"Merde, I'm sorry mademoiselle... wait Peggy?" I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.
"Yeah, me. Anyway, could you help me with a little problem I got?"
"Oui, of course."
"I... kinda like Hercules but..."
I couldn't refrain a squeal escape my lips.
"Quick! Go tell 'im! I'm... 'ow you say? 100% sure he likes you back."
I think my excitement was enough to probably creep her out enough to let me go through. I dashed through the dancing people and finally left the building. Slowing down, I found a pathway leading to a open field.
I smiled, finally at peace, and sat down on the grass.
"So you did come Lafayette?" A voice slithered from behind me, making my cheeks pink again.
"Oui... it feels good to be around people like you when there's stress you know?" I smiled sheepishly.
"Yeah," He sat beside me.
"Hey Laf?"
My heart fluttered. Damn, you got it bad for him haven't you? "Oui?"
"What does mon ami, mon chéri and mon amour mean? You repeat them quite a lot around us, the last two around me specifically," He asked looking at me, his beautiful hazel eyes sparkling with sweet innocence.
I feel my face burn as I stutter, trying to form my words correctly.
"Well mon ami means my friend..."
I stop and gaze at the star lit sky. The moon, however, was hidden behind some dense clouds.
Soon, the stars were covered by certain freckled man who had suddenly crawled on top of me and was now... well... there. His arms were holding his body up and placed on my sides while his legs were tangled in mine.
"Okay, that explains why you call Hercules and Alexander that. And the rest?"
"I-I..." I stammer nervously.
"I won't be mad if it's an insult or something, I'm just... curious." He smiled sweetly, making my heart melt.
"Don't think differently of me please..." I begged.
"I would never," His freckled cheeks turned a light shade of pink.
"M-mon chéri means m-my d-darling and m-mon a-amour means m-my love," I stuttered, closing my eyes.
His beautiful hazel eyes are wide as he says in disbelief.
"M-my... love?"
I nod, still waiting for the impact of his fist on my face.
Yet it didn't come.
He placed his hand on my cheek and moved my face so our eyes were locked into each other once again, then he wiped tears I didn't notice were falling from my eyes.
"Laf? Laf look at me."
I looked back at his beautiful hazel eyes to see him with a glowing background. I gasped a bit in surprise, but then realized the moon was out.
Before I could look back at him, I felt him press his soft pink lips to mine and melted into the kiss.
We both fell backwards, his fingers tangling in my messy chestnut hair, while mine were running down his bronze coloured locks and slowly taking his hairband off, letting his hair tumble free and tickle my neck.
My other arm ran down his back and held securely onto his waist, while he traced patterns in my neck.
We soon broke the kiss and looked into each other's eyes. I smiled like an idiot, a blush covering my cheeks.
"I-I love you Lafayette..." He whispered, laying down with his head on my chest.
"I thought you liked Alexander, " I whispered, still hugging.
"I've been crushing on you with quite some time... but I thought you were straight," He whispered back.
"Touché."
"Je t'aime John,"
"I love you too Lafayette."
"Should we go back, mon amour?"
"We should."
We were walking back, hand in hand, when John asked a question with his sweet, innocent voice.
"So... will you be my boyfriend Laf?"
I felt a blush creep up my cheeks as I answered.
"I'd love to chéri."
We walked back inside, I finally gelt in peace with myself, finally he was a part of me. I smiled as we saw Angelica make a speech.
John walked back to me with a couple of glasses of drink, then immediately kissed me as he handed me one.
"A toast to the groom, yeah Laf?" He smiled.
"Oui chéri. A toast to the groom," I smiled back.
