Chapter 17
For the next few hours, I spent my time scouring the cramped writing for any indication, and mention of the other types of dragons, or anything related to them. Nothing. For two hours I had found nothing of what I wanted. Some of the things I had come across were so disturbing and horrifying that I had to close my eyes to try to get the images out of my head. Some of the things in those books could never have happened today: such dark, twisted magic had died out in humans centuries ago, and was now only preserved in these pages. But just thinking about the days when that sort of magic had manifested in humans as well as demons... I shuddered, abandoning that tome all together.
Nearing the end of the day, my eyes drooping with sleep, but I suddenly jerked awake at the words Spirit Dragon staring out at me. I turned back the page and began to read.
No dragons are more elusive and mysterious than the Spirit Dragon.
They are found in the farthest reaches of this world, where the seas turn to ice and the water falls off the plane of this existence into the abyss that surrounds it.
The Spirit Dragon is the most unique of all dragons, owing to its ability to travel through time for short periods of time.
If the Dragon's tamer were to join their powers with their own, it has been reported that the wielder had the ability to manipulate time, either speeding up or slowing down their reality or the reality of those around them.
I gasped as my eyes skimmed over the words. A way to get to Avonbriand. Adonnija looked over, obviously wondering why I had just shot out of my seat and now was bouncing up and down on the balls of my feet. He just stared at me, then simply stated with visible confusion. "What?"
I realised I hadn't actually told him what had happened yesterday. So for the next five minutes I quickly explained what had happened when I had opened the book, barely able to contain my excitement, and what the dragon had told me when the world had frozen. "And I have found out how we can reach it. We need to find a spirit dragon." I slid the book over to him, carefully holding the page. Pointing to the passage I had read earlier, I said, "This tells us exactly where to find the next egg." My voice shook. "At the edge of the world."
