Chapter one: forsaken feelings
We're brought to a familiar scene of the boy encased in ice as over a century passed and the boy now a man was freed from the ice by the emergent form of humans of this age, the cavemen.
The man was quite bewildered and flew off in order to find a place for him to live as he wore a black cloak and a half face mask made of dark cloth, his clothes tattered and ripped in places from his travels. Every so often the man would come across more humans and couldn't speak to them, his voice damaged from the incident and couldn't speak only breath in a raspy manner. As he wandered the current form of earth, a wasteland beset by mythical beasts and early humans that were terrorized by said beasts he began to realize that he was foolish to ever imagine that his destiny would allow him to have any sort of happiness and began to focus on himself, sitting on a lone glacier in the farthest reaches of the north. One by one he felt his emotions snap, disappearing into the growing void within until he only felt one thing; Pure sadness. It seemed to him that he'll be alone forever, a saddened sigh escaping him as he held the tattered remains of his parent's clothing in his hands and resigned to letting himself freeze solid in order to pass through the centuries and hopefully overcome his sadness.
Humanity continued to evolve without cease, progress and time stopping for nobody as the man stayed frozen. One day a temple was built around him in the farthest reaches of the north, worshipping him like a deity as they saw he is still alive and even in that state they could feel the power coming off of him. Cyan energy filled the cavern his frozen prison occupied as the ice began to crack ever so slightly, failing to contain the buildup of power he had been generating. The man training in his mind in order to get revenge for what had been done.
-In heaven-
Idrus ruled the heavens with an iron fist, killing any that opposed his rule as they silently waited for the return of their true king, knowing that he would one day return. The civilians of the fall kingdom were treated like slaves, beaten and chained for their dissent and noncompliance. They were worked like livestock to repair the fallen crystal arches and the damaged sections of the very ground they walked on, although the gorge that split the upper half and lower districts of heaven was left alone as a reminder to those who had aspirations to fight back, each angel given collars that turned their wings black and shattered their halos, their immortality barely remaining.
A lone child was seen running from the seraphim, crying as her surrogate mother had been taken into custody for having dared to use the fall name as her surname, this child was known as Elise. She ran and ran until her feet bled and managed to escape for some time. People sheltered her as she was just a child, hurt and nearly broken by the circumstances of her misfortune. She was unaware of her bloodline, not knowing that she was the half sister of the exiled prince. It terrified her the most, not knowing why her mother was taken away, not knowing why she was on the run. However time continued to flow and it was certainly not on her side, her luck only holding out for so long until she was taken into custody. In heaven time was slower as the girl was born around nine months after the incident, sharing the same father as Paris. The father having impregnated a maid through an act of unfaithfulness, unsure why he did so. Even then the blood of the fall family remained strong in the girl, keeping her safe from harm.
The girl slowly got stronger, her path mirroring Paris's own yet different as she could never meet his level and as she grew older she began to wonder whether she should turn herself in so those around her would stop suffering for helping her. Once she was at the age of eighteen she went to the palace and explained who she is, being given sympathy by Idrus who had began to regret what he had done, although the shock that she was a result of adultery between his father and a maid nearly had him kill her.
The girl was clever, working her way to becoming a close confidant of Idrus and began to scan earth in hopes of finding her half brother that wasn't evil. She never could as his presence was hidden by the ice.
She gave up her feelings in order to keep her place in the kingdom and to not suffer exile.
-on earth-
Thousands of years had passed on earth without Paris aging even a year as the ice had ceased his biological aging, keeping him at the age of twenty four regardless of being immortal in the first place.
In the year 2000, an expedition was launched to the arctic circle by a man named James Lucius Castellan. Having heard rumours of a man frozen in ice that had otherworldly power, James set forth with a group of explorers and soldiers, the soldiers mainly being for his own protection. It took two years before they made it to the arctic circle, following leads to the temple where the man lay in his frozen prison.
-James POV-
As I studied my surroundings, I saw nothing but ice for miles and breathed through the excruciating cold, frostbite nipping at my nose while I trudged through the snow and got ready to board our snowcat vehicles. There was thirty of us, all sorts of people of different ethnicities. We had one goal and that was to find this man we had heard so much about, it had seemed like we might never find him as the leads we got had pointed to one place. The locals steered clear as they were afraid of the man we had heard so much about. The snow crunched underneath the treads of the vehicle as my compatriots chatted idly, I myself kept my attention to where we were going.
I looked to my side to see my closest friend Jessica Declan, and we both smiled, excited as scholars and curious as to what the man was like.
We finally arrived at a lone glacier, looking up the mighty frozen facade with our climbing gear ready and began our ascent. None of us were ready for what we would encounter. Not a single one. As we climbed we began to feel pressure and could feel in our bones something trying to push us off the glacier, to stop us from finding this man. A few of us began to suffer nosebleeds as their ears popped and blood began pouring out of their orifices, coughing weakly they told us to keep going while they made their descent. At first we were excited but with each strike of our ice picks we began to feel terror and impending dread. We knew we were close and were damned sure we wouldn't stop now. Too many people had sacrificed too much for us to stop, I carried Jessica on my back as her fingers had weakened during the climb. Only ten out of our group of thirty had made it up, the others watching with bated breath as we spoke on walkie talkies. "This is James, we've arrived at the top and we can see a grand temple. It appears to be crafted out of pure marble and quartz, strange due to being in the arctic circle, we can see inscriptions in a language that we can't quite understand but our top linguists are attempting to decipher it" I said into the walkie talkie as I walked forward and touched the cold stone, even feeling it through my gloves. "After hours of attempting to understand I've been able to decipher a single word, Fall. What could that mean? What is fall? I know it's a name for one of the seasons but this doesn't make sense as it's a season not a place.. could it be a command? It's too early to tell.." I said into the recording device, stunned as the doors seemed to cease to open, once they were opened we were nearly blown off the glacier by a blast of cold air and energy that we could see. The colour of the energy was beautiful in ways that I can't even begin to describe. The air nipping at my chapped lips as dried blood crusted in my nostrils, Jessica seemed to be faring worse as I had someone bring her down the glacier to base camp, I alone continued into the temple.
As I roamed the temple it seemed to have symbols drawn everywhere, carved into pillars of solid rock. I was unsure of what to make of this, writing down everything in my journal. My footsteps were echoing throughout the temple and each step I took filled my heart with dread and fear, not knowing what I would encounter.
When I made it to the heart of the temple I saw large doors barring a cavernous room, the doors had many languages inscribed on them. They ranged from English to ancient Arabic, during my time abroad I had studied many and each sentence came to the same conclusion. "The exiled king lay in his frozen prison, awaiting the day he will take revenge" I said aloud, reading the inscriptions and pushed as hard as I could against the doors, the heavy stones barely moving until something came to my mind. "My king, I am here to see you, may I be granted audience?"
To my shock the doors began to creak and open, once I could see into the room I wish I hadn't as a bright light nearly blinded me, being visible to all near me, base camp screamed at me through the walkie talkie and I turned it off for now.
As I walked the energy in the room felt warm, in contrast to the icy prison before me. In the center I saw a great cocoon of ice, unable to see through it I walked forward and touched it, seeing cracks. I then radioed base camp. "I need the drilling crew, I believe I have found him!"
Roughly ten minutes later the drilling crew had made their ascent and got to work, the ice seemed quite stubborn and unwilling to give in. As if it didn't want to let its occupant free, that didn't stop us as we kept pushing forward. More cracks began to appear in the ice and once we hit the final crack the cocoon burst and we were greeted by a sight I won't ever soon forget. I saw a man that was.. well he was beautiful, his hair was white as snow and I couldn't see his eyes as they were closed, his face was like no other and he seemed to have two knife scars, one across his nose and the other above and below his right eye. I was at a loss for words, unsure of what to think as I suddenly felt immense pressure, a wave of gravity forcing me to my hands and knees as the drilling crew were slammed to the floor, I will never forget the sickening crunch and snap I heard as their bones were broken from the impact. As I looked up my gaze met the man's and it terrified me to no end. It felt like he was searching my mind for answers, before I could even speak he looked down to me and spoke in a voice that resonated in my mind.
"Are you the one that has woken me up? Why did you do so. Why are you here. If you do not answer I will erase this entire glacier and everything near it. NOW SPEAK!" All I could do was weakly looked at his eyes, they were beautiful, one being a deep galaxy blue that I couldn't look away from, the other being an ice blue that pierced my very soul while it glowed with rage, I could see flecks of emerald green, purple and crimson. I coughed up blood as I willed myself to answer. "I-I'm an explorer..sir I journeyed here from a faraway land in order to find you.. my studies have included a massive crater in rural Canada, the surrounding area was littered with dinosaur bones.. I'm here because I heard rumours of a man unlike any other.." I could tell the man was deeply mistrusting of me and I definitely knew if I didn't watch my words he would kill me in an instant. I was so wrapped up in my thoughts I didn't even realize he was going to speak again.
"Tell me, explorer. What is your name. I am known by many names, but you may call me Paris Romulus Fall."
As he said those words many images appeared in my mind, once I was brought back from my thoughts I answered him. "M-My name is James Lucius Castellan sir" I didn't know why I kept calling him sir, but it felt right. I saw him stick his hand out and I felt light pour over the area, healing the drilling crew and myself. We left the temple and began our descent, eager to tell my compatriots about our discovery.
-Jessica POV-
I laid in a medical bed with a fire nearby, recovering from my wounds that were inflicted by the cold. I heard many cheers and gasps of awe before I saw James enter my tent, a look of excitement on his face. He began to tell me all about what he had found, and admittedly I felt disappointed that I wasn't able to be there, however I felt relief that I didn't go. As I listened I heard a voice I didn't know speak.
"So this is miss Jessica Declan, interesting. She seems to be hurt so I'll heal her, back away James Lucius Castellan."
I saw a man of unrivalled strength, power and authority walk into the tent as a blush erupted on my face, I had never seen a man so handsome before and couldn't believe my eyes when I suddenly felt better, my hands no longer hurting and I could move my body again. Despite the fact I felt compelled to compliment him I felt fear, I could feel the power within him and it terrified me. "T-Thank you.. sir!" I said to him before I received a warm smile that seemed also sad, perhaps I reminded him of someone? He left the tent as quickly as he had entered and heard a rumbling as we were brought away from the glacier, seeing it collapse as the man walked. James was asked to talk for the man and explained many things to us, we didn't know if we were going to ever see him again and so we decided to try and learn as much as we could.
-normal POV-
As time passed on, the man was eventually brought back to Canada, where he had landed and he seemed to experience a traumatic episode, killing many around him as his power burst forth and emitted a shockwave that radiated throughout space.
He seemed to adjust well to humans, even settling down with some and tried to enjoy his time on earth until he was ready to retake his home.
