Chapter 9:: Do I remember?

Author's POV:

"This... was the bracelet you gave me." He said as you looked at it saying, "This..."
"It's that one.. from the restaurant."
He completed as you gulped. You looked at it before looking at him and said, "Then... what about other things I've seen in my dream?"
"The rose pin?"
He asked as your eyes slightly widened hearing him. He smiled and said, "They're somewhere... safe. I'll show you when the time comes, okay?"

You were perplexed. How was this all possible? Why didn't you know the things he knew?
"I don't even have the mark. How do you know about the rose pin I saw in my dreams?" You asked as he stared at you. In the middle of his dark modern interior house, he looked at your face glistening under his dim lights. He took a step towards you making you a little alert and spoke, "I was the one who gave it to you, how could I forget?"
"It's hard to trust you." You mumbled. The one who you trusted more than your life at a time was the same person standing in front of you, hearing you speak out these words effortlessly. He was hurt, he felt hurt but he knew it was not your fault. You were also confused, you also needed proof, knowledge, and truth.

"Don't trust me... trust yourself." He said, smiling. You just gulped and looked down saying, "When will I know the truth then?"
"I don't know either. I'm trying to tell you these on my own."
"But I always refuse to believe you."
"I don't need you to believe me. I just need you to know the truth. You'll eventually know it yourself."

"You didn't follow me around or tell me the truth before, why now?" You asked. He smiled, you were curious. You had every right to be. With a smile, he continued,
"Because I thought it'd be fine. I didn't want to scare you or make you confused. I knew you'd react like this, be scared. I know how hard sleeping has become for you these days. I hear your mumbles from your house... sitting here. And even on my throne. Yet, I can do nothing. But you're endangered right now. You don't remember but I do. This time, I have to save you from danger. I can't bear to lose you again."

You stared at him, listening quietly.
"Is the danger coming to me because of you?" Your question made him quiet. He didn't speak and just looked down.
"Then... even if I remember, what if I don't come back? Will the danger leave me?" You asked. You weren't even sure what you were asking, you just needed answers so you decided to go with the flow.
"I don't know." He said. He was confused. He didn't know if leaving you would keep you safe, but for now, leaving you was a worse option that he wouldn't choose.

"Are you really... a vampire? How can I believe that? You don't drink blood.. I've never seen you. Or... going under sunlight." You said. He looked outside to see the sunlight shining brightly on his balcony. It was nearly midday.
"Do you really... want to see?" He asked as you nodded. He walked outside, standing on the balcony, the sunlight falling on him. You gasped seeing his skin glittering. It was shining brightly, looking like his face was dusted with glitter.
But soon, you noticed some red patches growing on his open areas.
"Oh my god.." You spoke out as he stared at you, calmly. You quickly walked towards him saying, "Get in! People will see you!!"

He got in quickly feeling you push him and sighed. He had rashes on his face and neck. You stared at him, feeling guilty for a moment but then sighed saying, "Do you get rashes after getting under sunlight?"
"Yes."
He said. Exactly what you read in that book. You stood there for a moment, processing everything.

On that sunny day, you saw him using an umbrella in Paris. He always came out during monsoon or at night. Right, these all made sense. His red eyes, him suddenly changing places like magic. But what about... blood?
"I don't drink blood. Unless I get critically sick, I do not consume blood. Animal blood, if urgent." He said as you stared at him, blinking quietly.
"Sounds really... scary." You whispered under your breath, looking down.
"I will never harm you, I never did nor will I ever dare to." He said, smiling. You looked at him and said, "I guess... I have no choice but to believe you... so you don't eat or sleep? Then why do you have a home?"

"Since you moved back and I found you, I followed you here." He said. You gulped and looked down saying, "Since when have you been following me?"
"Since the day I saw you in Paris.."
"But th-"
You were asking again but he stopped you by putting a finger on your lips and said, "Shhh. Don't talk anymore. I'm tired after burning under the Sun. Go to your house for now."

His eyes were becoming smaller. Maybe asking him to go under the Sun was a little cruel? You were feeling bad for him.
"Do you need ointment..?" You asked, not quite understanding why you were showing such care. You went out of his house as he stood in front of his door, smiling and said, "No, go and rest. Time will unfold secrets on its own. And don't be too scared of me... it scares me too."

--Time skip

"What did he mean by that? What scares him? Me being scared of him scares him.. Weird." You mumbled and wondered about everything.
"I can't believe I actually have been socializing with a real vampire... that too a royal?" You sighed for the 23948th time in the hour and looked down, at the cup of water in front of you. It was December, it was soon going to start snowing you believed. Maybe before Christmas, which was in 2 weeks.
You looked at the calendar and sighed, not knowing what to do.

"Vampire... past life... death... rebirth... love... dreams... danger." You mumbled out the words, trying to figure out what to do. You were so confused, curious, scared, anxious, and eager. You were a mix of emotions. The image of his face with rashes popped up in your mind as you unconsciously felt a pang in your heart. You felt an ache inside of you, you felt hurt.
"I feel so guilty now..." You mumbled, holding your chest, caressing it but you frowned wondering if he could hear you.
"Hear my mumbles..?" You asked yourself, wondering what it meant exactly. Could he really hear everything you said?

You sighed, trying not to think about it. You lay on the bed, opening the book again, continuing to read,

'Once in a 1000 years, the rebirth of the first love of the King takes place. Destiny wrote, can't be changed. -Tale of the old vampire love stories'

You sighed and mumbled, "This book is... crazy."
You quickly got up from the bed and opened your laptop, researching about 'vampires' 'bloodsuckers' 'tales of vampires' 'rebirth of the first love of vampires'.
Hours passed by and you continued to scroll through those. So many theories, so many legends yet not many of them seemed real. You thought of how some of those really related to Taehyung, his acts, and the incident that happened today.

"How long do I have to wait till I know the truth?" You asked yourself, sighing. You wondered what would happen once you got to know about the truth which was yet left for you to discover. Would it all be true, or were you dreaming right now? Would reality be easy or would it be more complicated than you could ever imagine? You had no idea, not the least bit of it. But you knew one thing, you needed to know the truth.

Your dreams were real, your emotions were real. The incidents which seemed surreal were real, Taehyung was real. And these all were your questions. The existence of everything was your question and you believed that the answers were going to be discovered, just as he said. As much as you hated to trust him, you knew he was right... maybe somewhere, at least you felt the need to trust him.

--Next day

You sighed and continued drinking from the latte while sitting alone, in a cafe, staring outside the window when you heard a knock on the table. Frowning, you looked up to see the same man from that day, the handsome man.
"Oh.. it really is you." He spoke, smiling. You smiled back, awkwardly and processed his face. Soon, realization clicked in as you got up, greeting him.
"May I sit if you don't mind?" He asked as you nodded, sitting down, gesturing for him to sit in front of you. You were awkward actually, but- you didn't know how to say 'no'.

He sat there and said, "I'm Hyunjin, you?"
"Y/N..."
You said, blinking quietly. He smiled and said, "Oh, your flowers helped me quite a bit that day. My mom loved them."
You awkwardly smiled as he said, "Well.. am I making you uncomfortable?"
You shook your head, trying to be friendly. You really needed to make real friends and talk to 'real' people to get your head out of the vampire world though it was impossible.

"Umm... you're really pretty though. That's why I approached you-" He was so straightforward. You kept the drink on the table, awkwardly looking at him who said, "Wanna be friends... maybe?"
"About that, I-" You were about to respond but as soon as you turned your head towards the other table, you flinched seeing a familiar figure blankly observing you and Hyunjin. It was him... again.
