Chapter 4:: Red Eyes

Author's POV:

"What did you write??" She asked him who looked at his writing and then at her. She frowned at his writing and spoke, "Why did you write this?"

"Why? It looks pretty though." He spoke as she replied, "Pretty? How can a word look pretty?"
"What did you even write.." She mumbled as he replied, "Your name." She looked at him before looking down, a tint of red shade visible on her cheeks.

You got up from your sleep again. Every day, the same dreams. You sighed and poured a glass of water from the jug on the nightstand. Drinking the water, you checked the time, 3:39 am.
"Who is this blurry faced guy in my dreams..?" You asked yourself, sighing as you walked back to your room. You heard some noise coming from the apartment beside yours and mumbled, "Is he still awake? Weird.."

You suddenly noticed a random book on the shelf outside your room making you frown. Taking the book, you read out the title, 'A bloody tale'
"Bloody tale?
You asked yourself and wondered, "Is this Mina's book? She seems to be interested in stuff like these.."
"Maybe she left it here, who knows?"

"He was like Superman, but with fangs and oddly impaired morals."
"Loving the monsters always ends badly for the humans. It's a rule."

"Just these quotes make me realize why Mina read this... when's this book actually starting?" You asked yourself and turned to another page until you read something which caught your attention and you knew... this book was surely going to be finished by you.

'In popular legend, a vampire is a creature, often fanged, that preys upon humans, generally by consuming their blood. Vampires have been featured in folklore and fiction of various cultures for hundreds of years, predominantly in Europe, although belief in them has waned in modern times.'

"Hmmm... the concept of these fictional creatures is very confusing." You mumbled and continued reading the book until you felt your eyes getting heavy. Yawning, you kept the book aside and closed your eye, drifting off to dreamland.

---Next day

You sighed and watched the historical drama. You've always loved historical dramas, fantasy, and romance. Sometimes, with comedy too! As boring as it sounded, they were interesting to you, in every way. You could always feel an attachment to them.

You were focused on the drama until you heard someone entering the shop. Quickly closing your laptop, you greeted the customer.
"Oh.. hello! What a coincidence!" You said and smiled at the familiar face who smiled back saying, "Woah.. hello!"
"What would you like..?" You asked as he said, "Lilacs.."
"Alright." You said and walked towards the flower section. You took the flowers and started making a bouquet from them as he looked at you calmly. He smiled while admiring you who was doing her work with focus.

You kept the bouquet and said, "Uhh.. it'll be... $3."
He nodded and paid for the flowers as you smiled saying, "Please write your name and number here. This is only because of the customer register."
He smiled, taking the pen and started writing as you stared at him for a while before looking away. He took the flowers and spoke, "See you again, goodbye!"
"Have a nice day!"

---At night

"Did you write this for me?" She asked as he looked down nodding. She looked at him and asked, "What are we?"
"Huh?" He asked as she replied, "What are we to each other?" He looked at her thinking deeply as he spoke, "Home." She smiled before walking closer to him and stood on her toes placing a peck on his lips making him flustered.
"Is that okay for me to do..?" She asked as he spoke, "You already did it.."

"I just... I..." She was stuttering not knowing what to say as he smiled before placing his lips on hers making her body jolt up but she smiled a little closing her eyes. After a few seconds, he pulled away saying, "I guess it is.. okay." She smiled at him as he smiled back at her. She was staring at him with admiration as he patted her head and spoke, "You're my home."

------------

You got up, holding your chest which was about to burst. Your loud heartbeats and the butterflies in your stomach.. you felt restless. The blurry face in your dreams which you weren't sure of was making things even worse for you.

As you were trying to catch on your breath, a realization hit you. It was always him in your dreams. All the strange dreams you've had since your childhood, he was in them. All those dreams where it was the two youths and their beautiful interactions, there was him. Even, in reality, you saw him. The blurry face was feeling so familiar yet so distant. Suddenly, some words roamed in your mind.

Was it merely a coincidence as you believed or was it something more than that like he said?  You couldn't shrug his face off your mind, and the blurry face was making things worse. With a sigh, you spoke, "It's not simply a coincidence.. is it? I need to... know why I feel this way and dream this way..."

You got up and walked out of the room seeing your jug of water empty. You needed more water so you went towards the kitchen in the dark when you felt like you saw something red. Frowning, you walked near the dark corner of the room speaking, "W-Who is it..?"

You were sure there was someone as your heartbeats raised in fear. You quickly held the jug in a defensive way, ready to attack as you jumped in the corner about to beat the sh-t out of the non-existent ghost in there but instead, you were pinned to the wall, staring wide-eyed at the pair of red eyes staring at you. Even in those red luscious eyes, you could find some sort of unknown warmth.

But your heart skipped a beat as soon as you heard a familiar deep voice,
"It's me..."

You looked into the red dreamy eyes in front of you, fazed but trying to gain your consciousness back before pushing him away as you ran towards the switch, turning on the lights.
"Where is he?" You asked yourself, looking here and there but frowned not seeing anyone.
"I saw someone... it was him.." You said to yourself, breathing nervously. You were confused, scared, anxious, hesitant and what not?
Your hands were shaking as you got reminded of those red eyes you saw. Those deep red eyes enchanted you.

"I'm sure I saw him.." You said and sat on the couch, trying to recollect your thoughts. You were so confused, that you quickly called Mina and asked her to come over.

--Time skip

"What are you even saying?! Red eyes that speak? Y/N... I do believe in mythical creatures and legends but... how could something like that..." She was speechless but sighed thinking about it for a while.
"Y/N, have you been watching or reading anything fictional these days?" She asked as you thought about it saying, "Well... not really. I just read the first few pages of a random book about vampires."
"Right! Vampires! They have red eyes, fangs, come at night... that's right! I think it's because of that. We're not in villages or forest areas, we're in the middle of a crowded area in Seoul... and moreover, even if I believe in legends, something like this happening in our house is unlikely."
She said as you nodded saying, "Maybe... I felt like I saw him.."

"Him?" She asked as you said, "Someone.. I just got a feeling, I don't know!"
"It's okay, I'll sleep here tonight. You should rest and STOP reading that book!"
she said as you sighed mumbling, "It's your one anyway.."
But that sentence went unheard by Mina as she walked towards the counter to make some juice.

--A few days later

You sighed and nodded hearing Yuri who spoke, "Let's go nah! The forest is seriously known for its ultimate legend!"
"Ah?"
You asked as she nodded saying, "Of course, Y/N! And moreover, the thing you told us about... you should come with us and get some refreshments! It must be suffocating in that apartment."
"It is weird... indeed."
You mumbled.
"I agree to be honest. I've heard about the forest as well. A specific part of it is known to be the same as it was a thousand years ago. How could no changes ever be made?" Mina asked. You nodded and said, "Well, that does have my curiosity but I feel strange about going there if I'm gonna be honest."

"Why would you feel strange? Oh, are you scared?" Mina asked as you shook your head saying, "Well.. I don't know."
"Ah.. I really wanted to go on a trip after Malaysia.." Yuri sighed dramatically as you sighed seeing Mina play along with her.
"Fine, guys. Let's go!" You said as they both started cheering happily. You were also curious about the forest which had so many legends as said by Mina and Yuri but at the same time, there was so much confusion in you, that you barely knew how to cope with it.

???'s POV:

"Spy on them. Make sure she doesn't get the throne. In no way, will I, let that b*tch get the throne she doesn't deserve." I said and smirked as one of the workers nodded.
"But sir, if we get caught... we might get in trouble. It's against the King."
"Well, don't worry about that. Because... we won't."
