Chapter Fourty Seven: Vacation Elation

"Don't make me come over there"
"Bet"
";-;"

"Kids!" My mother calls as she enters the house, door slamming behind her.
I flinch, she doesn't sound mad but...
"I have a surprise for you!" She calls.
I get off my bed, pulling the back of my shirt down and flattening the front.
I begin heading to the kitchen, where I assume she'll be waiting.
"I won a vacation!" She announces.
My sisters and I gasp and the excitement rises as my mother looks straight to me.
"To great wolf lodge..." she trails off and pauses for a moment as we all begin to squeal, "back home!"
I am shocked.
"Wh- what!? Really!?" I start to jump up and down as my mother nods.
All three of us kids start screaming joyfully.
"We leave on Thursday!" My mother announces.
"Its Monday-" I break off, eyes wide.
She nods again.
"Yessss!" I scream as I run to my room to begin packing.
"A whole week at Great Wolf Lodge!" My mother calls after me.
I hear the thudding of feet as my sisters run to their room as well.
I pull out my phone and pull open my messages app.

Me: ASH
Ash: WASSUP??
Me: WE WON A VACATION TO GREAT WOLF LODGE
Ash: Oooooo swag
Me: THE GREAT WOLF LODGE BACK HOME
Ash: WAIT WHAT
Me: A WHOLE WEEK, STARTING THIS THURSDAY
Ash: OMG
Me: I can't wait to come home- I'm so excited!!!! I'm gonna go pack now!!

I slam my door shut on accident as I run into my room but luckily my parents don't seem to notice.
I drag my suitcase out of my closet and unzip it eagerly.
"Lana!" My mother calls.
My heart stops and I hold my breath for a moment, prepared for her to yell.
"Have you watered the plants yet?" She asks.
I let out a sigh of relief, "no, I'll do that and then I'll pack."
I get up off my knees carefully, wincing as my knee pops.

"Clyde!" I wave and call over to him in his own back yard from mine.
"Hey Lana," he laughs and waves back, "what's up?"
"My mom won a vacation to the great wolf lodge back home!" I jump excitedly, wincing for a moment at a pain in my knee, "a whole week starting on Thursday!"
"Cool!" Clyde glances around him and then hops the fence over towards me, "so I guess that means I won't see you for a week?"
"Yeah," I shrug, "but you could go ask your parents if you could come hang out for a bit while I pack or something."
"Sure," Clyde shrugs, "I'll be right back."
"I'll go check with my parents," I wave as he hops the fence again, "Hey mom!" I peek my head into the house through the open door, "Can Clyde come hang out while I pack?"
"Sure!" She calls.
"Cool," I look back to the fence and wait for Clyde to reappear.

"Will you get to see any of your friends?" Clyde asks.
"I better. I'll walk out of that hotel if I have to," I laugh.
Clyde laughs, "just don't get hit by a car."
I roll my eyes and stick out my tongue.

Once my suitcase is packed I set it on the floor at the end of my bed.
"Guess you gotta get out of here now," I sigh.
Clyde nods, "so you leave on Thursday?" He let's himself slide off the edge of my bed into a standing position.
"Yeah," I nod.
Clyde nods, "Tell me all about it when you get back."
I laugh, "don't worry, I will."
"And send pictures of how it's going," Clyde laughs.
"You shall be bombarded with images at least once every hour," I laugh.
"Alright, I'm heading out then," Clyde waves.
"Wait!" I reach for his arm, "hug?"
Clyde smiles, "I'll probably see you outside before you leave, " he laughs.
I roll my eyes, "whatever."
Clyde rolls his eyes and hugs me, "night."
"Night," I laugh.
