Chapter One: Meeting Wan
Chapter One: Meeting Wan
The spirit of peace and light and the spirit of chaos and darkness, Vaatu and Raava, have been separated after being in consent conflict with each other. With their separation Vaatu has been spreading darkness and chaos and with each passing moment Vaatu gets stronger while Raava is growing weaker. This chaos is being felt by all, spirit and human alike.
"Are you feeling alright Raava?" Wan looked into the teapot Raava had been staying in.
"I'm growing weaker with each passing second Vaatu is able to roam free. We have to hurry to the next Lion Turtle to get the next element for you to master. We're running out of time." Raava talked in a tired tone as she circled in the teapot.
"I know Raava. According to the Airbenders of the Air Lion Turtle, the next Lion Turtle should be close by. It should maybe take two days to get there. Until then Raava, hold tight."
Wan and Raava made their way through the Spirit Wilds for the two days it was said to get there. The days and nights had gotten darker as Vaatu's darkness and chaos started to grow stronger and eviller. Spirits and humans were starting to clash more and more, leaving casualties on both sides.
"Raava, this is too much. Humans and spirits... many in which I called my friends, I'm losing friends on both sides."
"I know Wan. The sooner we find the other two Lion Turtles the sooner you can master the elements and stop Vaatu's darkness and chaos from spreading throughout the word. I am sorry about your friends."
As their conversation continued Wan was suddenly surrounded by a swarm of spirits that had been corrupted by Vaatu's darkness. They seemed to be in battle with another force. Just then streams of water whipped past Wan and struck the dark spirits. Wan turned to see a young women using water to protect herself from the dark spirits.
"Look Raava. She has to be from the Water Lion Turtle! Maybe she can help us!"
"Yes, but first it looks like she could use some help."
Before Wan and Raava had a chance to help the young woman, she was able to get rid of the Dark Spirits in no time. Her waterbending skills were like those of a master. When the last of the Dark Spirits were gone, the waterbending women turned and looked at an awed Wan. Her piercing cyan eyes seemed to look right through him, but besides her eyes, her one other feature that caught his eye was her rare white hair.
"Um... are you alright miss?" Wan stuttered as he approached the waterbender.
She said nothing and continued her way through the Spirit Wilds. Shocked for a second, Wan quickly took after her. She was his only chance to find the closes Water Lion Turtle. If he lost sight of her, there would be no telling when he'd be able to find one.
"Hey! What a second! I need to ask you something!" Wan held tightly onto Raava's teapot and made his way after the girl. Running though the weeds of the Spirit Wilds until he came to a clearing. Wan finally seemed to catch up with her only to be met with a face full of water.
"Why are you following me!?" The water girl finally spoke for the fist time.
"I-I was just wonder if you knew where a Water Lion Turtle was." Wan was able to say through the water that was spilling down his face and into his mouth.
With a heavy sigh and an embarrassed look on her face, the girl gave Wan towel she had with her to Wan.
"Sorry about that. My name is Yun, I'm the daughter of the chief of the Water Lion Turtle I live on. Why are you looking for a Water Lion Turtle anyway?" Yun sat down next to Wan and took back the towel when Wan was done with it.
"I'm traveling with the Light Spirit Raava here," Wan took the teapot and opened the lid to show Yun."I'm the one responsible for all the Dark Spirits that have been showing up lately. I was tricked by Vaatu to separate him from Raava. I'm trying to fix everything by going to the other Lion Turtles and asking them if they would bless my with their element. Although I can't have more than one, Raava here can hold the other ones, but she can enter my body temporarily so I can use all four. That's why I was following you. My name's Wan by the way."
After hearing Wan's story Yun noticed the sad look on his face. It was a sad face that was wrapped with guilt. A guilt that has been with him since Vaatu's escape.
"So," Yun suddenly thumped Wan on the back of the head.
"Hey! What was that for?"
"So, you're the one who caused all these Dark Spirits to show up like this, and you're trying to fix it all by yourself."
"Yeah. I have to if everything is going to go back to normal."
"No, you don't."
Wan looked over to Yun a little confused.
"What are you talking about?"
"You don't have to do it alone, you and Raava. Because I'm going to take you to my Water Lion Turtle City, and then I'm going to go with you. You're going to need to master waterbending after all." With a smile Yun stood up and held out her hand to Wan, and with an even bigger smile Wan took it and stood up from his spot as well. When Wan picked up Raava's teapot an old friend suddenly showed up. Wan's animal partner, a catdeer named Mula.
"Mula, there you are! Great news girl, we're finally going to a Water Lion Turtle thanks to Yun." Wan said excited as he scratched Mula behind the ear.
"It's not that big of a deal, but we really should get going, so we don't run into anymore Dark Spirits. We still have some was to go before we make it back to me home. Let's get going."
Wan, Mula and Raava followed Yun through the Spirit Wilds to get to the Water Lion Turtle she called home. Along the way Yun told Wan a little more about herself. Her family, her people's way of living. She made it all seem so mysterious and fascinating, even though she wasn't that different from those on the other Lion Turtles. The only thing that made them all different was the Lion Turtle they lived on.
"So Wan, I've told you my life story, but I know nothing about you. Where are you from?" Yun asked as she used her waterbending to catch a few fish from a river, so they could have something to eat.
"Well, I once lived on a Fire Lion Turtle far away from here. It's ruled by a family known as the Chou family. I lead a group to try and overthrow them, but I was caught. The Chou's wanted to know who else was a part of the assault, but I wasn't going to rat on my friends. I got exiled but the Fire Lion Turtle let keep the Fire it had given me, so I had a chance to survive in the Spirit Wilds."
After hearing Wan's story Yun realized just how different her life was to Wan's. Yun lived a comforter, since her father is the leader for her people on her Water Lion Turtle, but Wan, he lived the exact opposite then her.
"I never realized things were so different from where I live. Everyone are pretty much treated the same, and everyone seem to get along pretty well. I'm sorry Wan."
"It's not your fault Yun. It's not your fault Yun. It's just how the world is. There are those who are powerful and rule over others, and there are those who have to be ruled other. It's just that simple. I found that out the hard way."
"But why?!" Yun suddenly burst out, surprising Wan. "Why does it have to be that why? Why can't everyone be treated the same? Why must there be rulers that treat those who follow them like garbage? I just don't get it." Yun suddenly cased a wave of water rushing down the river she and Wan were sitting by, scaring some spirits in the processes, whom she quickly apologized to.
Wan couldn't help but laugh and be awed at the same time. Since meeting this young waterbender, only a few hours ago, Wan feels a strong connection to her. Like the spirits were bringing them together for a reason.
"I like her Wan. She's what the world needs now that Vaatu is roaming free. She will be a great ally to you in the upcoming battle." Raava weakly cooed as she sat in her teapot.
"I like her too Raava. There's something about her that...."
"Makes the world a whole lot brighter."
"Yes, makes thebrighter."
