A few days passed since the attack on Isabella. Mariam was writing reports in her office to give to Chase when she felt arms around her waist and hands on her shoulders. She turned around, her warm honey brown eyes meeting Isabella's chocolate brown ones. "Izzy, what are you doing?" She asked, smiling. The Sri Lankan stood up and held Isabella in her arms. "I wanted to see you. I missed you so much, Mari." Ah, Mariam would never get tired of sweet yet kind Isabella. The day they met was a wonderful blessing in disguise for them. "I want to show you something, will you come with me?" Mariam nodded her head yes and proceeded to follow her girlfriend to where they were going. They stopped at a garden that was filled with red roses, white lilies of the valley, lilacs, and blue water lilies, the national flower of Sri Lanka.
"Izzy, this is so beautiful! How did you-?"
"I often like exploring new places and I discovered this place that was abandoned. So, with some help, I got this place fixed up and had fresh flowers put in." They both walked towards the center where a dancing fountain was. "Izzy, should I be worried about what your trying to tell me?" She asked before Isabella placed a red rose behind her ear. A tiny blush formed on Mariam's face as she gently touched the rose's petals. "Izzy, what are you even planning?"
Isabella turned to face Mariam with a small ring box that was made out of deep dark red velvet, causing the Sri Lankan woman to blush even more, her dusky skin turning darker. Isabella sighed, before staring deep into the agent's warm honey brown orbs.
"Mariam Rose Burman, when we first met, you were a cold yet beautiful lady that captured my very being with your eyes, I saw warm honey mixed with beautiful flecks of amber, swirled with rings of deep and rich aqua blue moons, trapped with a ring of black. Your hair reminded me of the nighttime sky after the storm. Your sun-kissed skin reminds me of buried treasures. When you arrested criminals, my heart went crazy and I wanted to just meet you sooner. When I saw you sitting alone in that cafe, my heart ached for you. I took it upon myself to talk to you. When you told me how your mother and brother were shot dead, I was shocked yet so angry. How dare your ex shoot your family? You were only 19 when he died and it hurt me to imagine that you, Princess Mariam of Sri Lanka witnessed that." Isabella began as Mariam sighed.
"When i was attacked by your ex, you were the first person to ask me if I was ok. That was the day I realized something: this beautiful, kind, sweet and fiery woman with eyes of honey loved me so much to the point you would've killed someone with a smile on your face for me. My heart was screaming at my brain to give you this promise ring today as soon as I got out of the hospital. So please, Mariam.." Isabella opened the box to reveal the promise ring she had been talking about.
"Stay by my side forever?" Mariam started crying.
"Izzy, you don't need to ask! Yes, I'll be with you!" Isabella slid the ring on her finger as Mariam looked at the ring. The red gem seemed to be either a ruby or a garnet as diamonds hugged the gem. It looked expensive but she did not care. "Izzy, this is so beautiful.. thank you." Isabella kissed her as Mariam kissed back, placing her hands around her neck while Isabella's were around her waist. The two women pulled away, a string of saliva from where their lips were connected. "Mariam, I love you.."
"I love you too, Izzy." Isabella stroked her face as she looked at Mariam's eyes, feeling waves of calmness wash over her. even in the light, she looked so damn perfect, it was impossible that she was an agent of ACME unless you were looking for her badge that she always kept close to her. Isabella decided to keep the secret that she was Carmen Sandiego, the VILE central leader. She wasn't ready to reveal that information until the time was right as she wanted to protect Mariam from having heartbreak again.
That night, Mariam was writing in her diary about what happened that day, when she heard a window breaking. Pausing her writing, she slowly crept downstairs with her favorite weapon of choice: a swiss army knife which was a Christmas gift from Isabella that she always kept beside her. She opened the blade and went into the living room. There was silence until she heard footsteps. She started fighting the intruder until they kicked the blade out of her shoulder. She kept blocking the attacks until they stabbed her in the shoulder.
"AHHH!!" She screamed as they twisted the blade. There was no telling how many veins and arteries were being cut. She felt like passing out. "MARIAM!!!" Shouted a familiar voice. She turned towards the voice and through her blurry vision, saw Carmen Sandiego herself. Carmen pushed the intruder away from Mariam and held her body close, not caring that blood was getting on her coat. "Carmen.. help, I feel cold.." she said, blood streaming down her lips.
"I know, just hang on and you'll be warm in no time at all." Mariam laughed, causing a horrific blood spot to splatter onto her coat. She reached up and stroked her face. "It might be too late for me.. goodbye, Carmen.. thanks for all the good memories you gave me.. I'll watch over you from heaven along with my brother and mother.." she then closed her eyes as a loud shriek escaped from Carmen, not hearing Chase, Chief, and the rest of the ACME Agents asking what happened and arresting the intruder that stabbed her.
"MARIAM!!!"
