Mission One

The first objective, destroy the sanitized octarians supply lines.

Callie was not happy with being back out so soon, but she was more worried about the others in her group.

Colt had an obviously fake confident stride going on, and Shelly was clearly nervous. Neither had any clue what they were up against, because no one had told them. Marie was explaining on the way, which one would argue was not an ideal time to do such a thing.

"So you mean to tell me were fighting zombies?" Shelly asked, visibly disturbed.

"In a word, yes." Marie said.

"That's just great." Colt groaned.

Callie was already panicking. She was not ready to go back onto battle. But Colt saw her.

He went over to her and patted her on the back. "It's ok." He said. "I know whatever happened was scary, but we won't let it happen again."

"It's just, we already lost Marina and Pearl, I don't wanna lose anyone else." Callie said.

Colt gave her his most positive smile. "I'm sure they were strong, but Shelly and I aren't legends at turf for nothing." He said. "I'll have your back if it makes you feel better."

"Ok..." Callie said hesitantly. She still didn't feel better at all, but she out in a brave face.

"We are getting close." Marie said. "Be prepared for the worst."

"Let's hope it doesn't get to that." Shelly said. The supply center was in sight.

"They're really getting ready for a full attack, huh?" Colt said, examining the scene.

"Looks like it. It's our job to shut this whole place down so the agents can successfully do their part." Marie said. "Get ready for an inkfight. Who took the canned stingrays?"

Callie poured several dozen out of a bag she had hidden somewhere.

"Here they are!" She said. Each fighter picked up a few.

"Remember, these are for anything your gun can't hit. Don't waste them!" Marie said. "Now, get ready to engage."

Everyone moved to cover.

"On my signal." Marie said. "1..."

Colt readied his dualies.

"2..."

Callie adjusted her posture for a frontal charge.

"3..."

Shelly began revving up her splatling.

"Go!"

Marie charged a shot and downed a nearby octocopter. The squad charged into battle.

Living up to their reputation, Colt and Shelly dodged and weaved through enemy fire, making counterstrikes as they went.

"They really are good..." Callie thought while following them with her roller. She diverted from their course after a while, and ran around to the side.

Marie was trying to charge her killer wail for stopping power. Trooper after trooper went down under her careful eye. Unlike normal octarians or Inklings, sanitized octarians were sluggish and predictable unless they were being directly manipulated.

"The goal is not to kill if possible!" Shelly called. "Axel can cure these guys. He made something that helps them."

Marie grimly replied. "It's not like they'll come willingly. Axel had to knock out the pair he took back."

Callie swung her roller in a wide Arc and felled several incoming octolings. "This is for Pearl!" She followed with a powerful vertical swing. "And this is for Marina!"

Colt and Shelly had pushed halfway to the assembly belts already. Colt's fast shots and Shelly's relentless sprays kept anything near them at bay. But Shelly saw several charger beams lining up.

"Duck!" She yelled, and she hit the floor. Colt did the same. The charger shots left ink where they were standing, but didn't hit either of them.

Colt fired once to reclaim their ground, and Shelly turned her next spray to the snipers. All of them were mowed down.

"Keep powering through!" Colt said. "Remember that one match with the sniper gullies?"

"Oh yeah." Shelly said, spraying a wave in front of her. "We had to get a little creative to fight them."

Colt bashed an octoball that got close with his gun, and shot it. "We really did."

"Hey, what about that time we fought that team of cheaters?" Shelly asked.

"The ones with the military gear or the ones with the friends that lent extra inkstrikes?" Colt asked.

"The former. The latter weren't anything special." Shelly said. "They had us beat but I launched you behind them. Their faces were priceless!"

"Yeah. Good times." Colt said. "How about when we met Edge because he thought Axel was cheating too?"

"Funny that's how we got our full team together." Shelly said.

"Why are they rambling?" Marie asked Callie.

"I think they are stressing out." Callie replied.

Marie tagged a sniper that emerged behind the pair.

"I can see why. They make us look far less dangerous than we are." Marie said.

"It's the synergy. That's scary how well they anticipate each other. Like they are in each other's heads." Callie said.

"That time we rode an Inkstrike was the most exhilarating thing I ever did." Shelly said, oblivious.

"Gotta say I thought riding upside down on a baller in the skatepark to sneak up on the opponents was pretty wild though." Colt said.

"Hey Colt, are we gonna die?" They asked.

"No. I think they are the ones dying. How's your kill count so far?" Colt replied.

They smirked. "102, how about you?"

"Only 65 myself. But you have the front charge." Colt jokingly pouted.

"I think we're almost at the goal." Shelly said. "It's like how we ay rainmaker, but we need to reload more."

"Exactly." Colt said. "Or tower control, or anything besides splat zones."

"Yeah. We are a great team." Shelly smiled.

"That's why we are the legends in turf wars." Colt said. "Only Axel holds a candle to us, and he has those modded weapons."

"OG players forever." Shelly said.

Despite their outward appearance, both Shelly and Colt were both depressed in a way, and highly anxious. The small talk was a coping attempt, because their synergy would be lost if one panicked.

"Hold on. It's the first line." Colt said. "We need to destroy it somehow. And where are the machines?"

Shelly took the direct method and started bashing the line with her splatling in between sprays. Parts began falling off the line. Colt used those to aid in busting it.

"They're mauling the line." Callie said. "I gotta get to them and help. That won't do what we need, it'll just help..."

Just then, Colt slashed the line, cutting the cover apart. The effects were instantly obvious. Colt pulled the side of the outgoing strip towards himself, and it began getting pushed off right away.

"Alert! Line 1 has been damaged! Repair stat! Repair stat!" An alarm blared.

It fell upon deaf ears. Most of the sanitized troops in the factory lay dead before Shelly, or behind Colt.

Marie rushed in, with Callie in tow. They ran to shit down the machines. There was no way, so Callie picked up a sledgehammer and manually destroyed the fuse box. The lines all seized up right away, and several machines burst into flames.

"It's time to get out of here!" Marie said. Shelly and Colt snapped out of their frantic daze and began running.

Electric shocks ran rampant.

Callie and Marie got out.

Pieces of the ceiling began falling.

Shelly was tagged by a shock. Colt stopped to pull her.

The ceiling above them began to fall.

Colt mustered up all the strength he had. "Grab my hand!" He yelled. He spun and tossed Shelly bodily away from the danger. The grip on his hand pulled him with. Both of their arms were wrenched horribly, but they got out in one piece. Or so they thought.

A trickle of something wet snapped Colt hack to his senses. The grip on his hand was gone. And for what it was worth, so was his arm. As soon as the adrenaline wore off, he began screaming. Shelly joined him.

"Oh dear..." Marie ran back to see what was wrong. The sight was not pretty.

Shelly and Colt both had an arm lying at an unnatural angle. Their shoulders were bleeding profusely.

"Callie, we need to get them patch up. That a serious injury." Marie said.

She turned to Colt. "Can you move it?"

Colt clenched his jaw, and tried to shake his head no. It was a mere twitch, but Marie was good at picking up on things.

"I know humans can have dislocated limbs, but Inklings shouldn't." Marie said. "I can't say this lightly. You may lose that arm."

Colt reacted, though not clearly. He seemed to nod in between shrieks of agony.

Callie had managed to wrap up Shelly, who was unconscious.

"How bad is it Marie?" She asked fearfully.

"Can't speak for her, but Colt is gonna lose the arm most likely. No inkling can do that procedure. We need to get them to the human doctors." Marie said.

She and Callie deftly wrapped up Colt, and began going back as fast as they could. They hijacked an armored vehicle from the assembly place, or rather it's ruins, and Marie drove back, ignoring all of the posted speed limits.
