All was well until it was time to go to the ranch, my eyes watered at the confined spaces that held the horses. My heart broke at the sight of their conditions, my guess was that this was how it was in the city life. Unlike how I was raised and where I grew up, I watched the black and white bronco known as Oreo. thrashing around for his life, the trainer that held the whip was starting to piss me off.
I hopped the railing, sitting on top of it. I clicked my tongue a few times, I was wary that this black and white beauty can literally kill me. But horses like Oreo and my Coal were the type of horses that were meant to roam free and not be tamed or locked up. My heart and soul hurt for the beast, I dug n my knapsack for the sugar cubes that I always bring with me no matter where I go it was out of habit for my stallion.
"EVERYONE OUT OF THE PEN NOW, THIS IS NOT HOW YOU TREAT A BEAST THAT DOES NOT WANT TO BE TAMED!" I was beyond mad, I pulled out a face mask and pulled up my beanie. I slid into the pen and backed up the furthest away from the stomping giant. I continued to click my tongue until it was in front of me, I held my hand out that held the sugar cubes.
Once it was searching for more, I had grabbed its mane and lifted myself up with ease. "I'm going to borrow your horse for a bit, hopefully by the time i'm done it will be more of a sweetie than a beast."
I dug my heels into its sides, it reared up and took off with lightning speed. I held on tight as it jumped the fence, I patted its head telling it in a way it did a good job. We had jumped a few more fences, now going into a trot I leaned forward giving it a few carrot sticks I had snuck in my pockets from our lunch. It's better for the horse anyway, I can't stand carrots. I slid off the side as we came to a small creek, I led it to drink and decided to just walk back.
Lost in my thoughts, finally deciding to let the horse free. Little did I know that the beast they call Oreo was following me back, I stopped in my tracks and felt a nudge at my elbow. I smiled when I patted its head, I talked to Oreo as if it was my long lost best friend. We had made it back, I had opened the pen as he slowly strutted through the open gate. I saw the brush as I reached for it, someone had grabbed my hand restricting me from going any further.
"You know, I should call the police for you stealing my horse. But who would have thought a little dark thing like you could tame a horse like Oreo. I should thank my godson for bringing me a golden nugget, I think you should stay indefinitely to pay for the damage you have caused my pocketbook." I said to the little foreign girl, she sure was pretty though I had to admit.
I was never a mean person nor did I have a mean bone in my body, but his touch felt foreign and I guess you could say I panicked. It wasn't my intention but I grabbed the hand, twisting it and tossing it over my body finally letting go at the last second. All you could hear was Oreo's neigh of approval, which kinda sounded like it was laughing at the guy.
"Please refrain from touching me, I do not allow such indecency I think it's unprofessional and downright rude." I hopped the fence and walked over towards Oreo, getting ready to brush him down. I continued to click my tongue, it was how I talked to my horse back home. I held back the sob, I was getting homesick as I sank to my knees. Oreo was nudging me, I think he was trying to calm me down in its own way which was much appreciated.
The guy was still there by the time I finished brushing Oreo, once I made sure Oreo was in his stall I went back and helped up the guy. I soon noticed he was actually quite young and was actually handsome. "Sorry for tossing you, it's just I don't like being touched by strangers let alone the villagers back home. Its got nothing to do with you, it's just I had a bad experience I don't plan on reliving it." I explain to the guy.
"By the way, I'm Tiana Heart. I'm not from around here, I don't really know the customs per se but I know touching isn't one of them. Well, that's what the village elder had taught me, I'm Taehyun's friend from school. I'm only here for a short while and I don't plan on staying too long, I have other places I wish to explore and lots to do. So please excuse me if I seem rather rude, I'm from Golden Praire I love horseback riding, archery, drawing, and photography."
"You're from Golden Prairie? No wonder you were so good with Oreo, I wonder why dad never sent word that someone was coming to the city. Let alone my aunt and uncle/godson, they should tell me these things" I announced out loud.
"You're Sean? You're the village elders son? I wonder why the elder told me his son was like 30? Short and ugly?" I asked the guy whose name is Sean.
"He said what? Well dad was always exaggerating when it comes to me and my sister, you can go on up to the house and meet her. She was in a horseback riding accident and is confined to the house. Oreo is her horse. She is going to be pretty peeved when she hears that someone other than her broke her horse and made him obedient." I explain to the girl.
When he said his sister had an accident, I knew that I had to cure her of her sadness. I was known on the prairie as A Tender Heart, meaning no matter the situation I could bring someone peace to themselves and free them of here worries or sadness. I guess I found my calling, in all honesty I guess it was normal with someone who has Chronic Heart Disease to cure people we come in contact with who truly need it.
After the first incident with my parents, I kept to myself. What do you expect for a 7-year-old girl to do? I usually hung around the medicine women in the tribe, I found comfort in helping her cure those who need it. The very first time was when a girl a few years older than me, was depressed because of her mother's passing. No one knew what to do with her, I on the other hand knew. I guess when I had gotten sick from keeping her company, my heart knew she was sad and helped me get closer to her.
She nursed me back to health, well to what a normal 7-year-old was able to be. I was still sick but I had opened her heart to have more warmth. At 10 years old, the village elder had named me Tiana Heart. Heart was her last name, Tiana was my mother's name. She had come from another tribe to marry my father, the girl's dad and my father were best friends, brothers you could say. They were very close when my mom was pregnant with me the girl known as Eiana was with her brothers away from the tribe. We had become family, sisters. I missed my sister, but she was married off to another Tribe and soon came to the city because her husband had wanted to become a city doctor.
I stepped into the house, I heard a familiar humming of a song from home. I looked around to see the eyes and the familiar face of Eiana.
