Chapter 8

After that rather... interesting breakfast conversation, they finished their meal in silence, the only noise being crows hopping around and chirping, obviously trying to get a bit of food for themselves. Phil gently shoos them away, even tho Techno could clearly see how he doesn't mean it. From how the hybrid had phrased it earlier on the paper, he had spent almost all his life with this murder of crows, so of course he wouldn't push them away when they begged for some treats.

Centuries... his life must have been so incredibly hard before he was able to settle down here. Having to escape and hide from hunters all this time. His parents must have been killed or just didn't have the same long lifespan as him, since he was so confused about his very likely immortality. Poor guy...

"So... what do you do around here in your free time?" Phil grinned and grabbed a new piece of paper. Gods there has to be a better way... Maybe he can try and learn his language? Then again... how do you even learn bird chirps? But he said he's not an actual bird. He's an Elytrian and comes from the End, just like Endermen. Enderspeak then? Can he speak that?

"It depends on what kind of day it is. I like to just fly around in the morning, stretching my wings and letting the sun warm them. But I can't do that with you, obviously. Well I could, but I don't think you would enjoy it that much.
I busy myself with helping the other hybrids around here. Like, help build shit or gather ressources. When I'm not busy with a project or ressource gathering I give Tommy flying lessons or just curl up in my nest and read. Sometimes I even write my own stories. I have this idea about giant ancient deities who fought against an evil king who tried to rule all three realms. I can show you later if you want?

So, for me it's mostly building or gathering. Not really exciting, I imagine."

Huh, building? Guess that's a fitting hobby for someone with wings who can access all parts of a building with ease. "It's definetly a calm hobby. But not boring, if your interested in it. You can just make everything your mind comes up with." Phil nodded and scribbled down on the paper again.

"Exactly! Like the pub I made with the floating island! It was a really spontaneous idea after I realized we had no spot where everyone can meet up safely. It took me forever, but it was sooo worth it. We're in that building so often, just to hang out."

"You made that? All by yourself?" The bird nodded, wings fluttering happily. "Impressive... it's a really beautiful building. Left me speechless when I first saw it." Phil chirped and bowed his head for a second, too lazy to write a thank you on the paper. "But back to the topic... That story you were talking about. I do want to hear or read it, sounds really interesting. What kind of books do you have here?"

The hybrid got up from his seat and pulled Techno back upstairs to where their beds, nests, were. He pushed a piece of the wall to the side, huh, a slide door in the wall?, to reveal a large bookshelf filled to the brim with books, old and new. After looking to Phil for confirmation, he began to look over all the different titels or small notes that were either written on the book itself or attatched to it. 'By Prime, some of these are ancient!'

Stories of ancient cultures, traveller guides, adventure story books, journals, just everything. Most of these were written by humans, but he would't be suprised if a good chunk of these stories were written by hybrids just like him. It was suprising that almost every single book was written in English. He can actaully read and understand all the titles.

"This is amazing. Not even village libraries have books this old." Phil chirped and sat down in his nest, watching as Techno pulled out one of the older books from the shelves. Something about Greek mythology, from what the bird could see. "I don't think I will get bored anytime soon. You know, since I'm not allowed to leave the house without you. So you can go flying if you want, without worrying that I will die of boredom or something."

The bird laughed and shook his head. He was right in some points and the thought of not losing his daily morning flight was a nice one. A sudden knock on the door disrupted the cozy morning. Phil sighed and walked back downstairs, Techno following close behind. When pulling the door aside, it revealed the younger winged hybrid, which the human assumed to be Tommy. The teen grinned at Phil, wings fluffing up as he chirped.

He seemed to ignore Techno for now, which was fine with him. Better than angry stares. The two birds talked for a while and the human went to grab a piece of paper, so Phil can write on it when he's done. Soon enough, the older hybrid turned to his new friend and took the paper and feather offered to him.

"He asked if he can have his flying lesson now, because he wants to go caving with his friends later. Will you be okay here for an hour? You can come and watch if you want."

Techno smiled and shook his head. "I'll be fine. You two go and fly around." After reading his answer, the bird nodded and turned back to the younger hybrid. Tommy grinned and pulled Phil along out of the house. He could hear happy trills for a few more moments, then it was quiet again.

Techno went up to his bed and got comfortable with the book he had chosen earlier. Yes... he could really get used to this life.
