Taehyung groaned as he closed the coffee shop he owns by himself. He took the small plastic bag of bread in his hands and he placed his keys in his pocket before heading home to his baby brother and his mother.
Taehyung was adopted, at least that's what his mother tells him, and he's grateful that his mother treats him like he was her own child. Their father passed away before Taehyung was adopted and he never heard of him. He felt loved and happy when he was with them.
Humming a soft tune, Taehyung begins his walk home. Upon reaching, he unlocked the door and greeted, "I'm home~" Taemin saw his older brother and smiled brightly, "Taehyung hyung!" He squealed.
Taehyung carried his baby brother easily and cooed at him. Taemin giggled and poked Taehyung's nose. "Taehyung-ah, you're home." A familiar voice said, a hint of a smile in her tone.
"Eomma." Taehyung smiled. "It's starting! It's starting!" Taemin suddenly squealed, fidgeting to be placed down by his older sibling. Taehyung laughed and placed down his overexcited brother.
Taemin raced to the sofa and plopped down, staring at the television attentively. It was time for the yearly lucky draw. The time for when someone from the town, a teenage boy, to be able to go to the Rosewood Royal Academy.
Taehyung smiled softly at his brother and placed the bread on the kitchen counter and settled down next to his brother.
"Let's welcome Prince Junghyuk, the heir of Rosewood Castle, to draw this year's lucky winner." The principle of Rosewood Royal Academy announced. A young prince stood behind a box with a hole at the top, the box filled with the contestants for this lucky draw.
Prince Junghyuk spun the box and it twirled a few times before coming to a stop, the hole facing him. He inserted his hand through the hole and mixed up the papers in the box a little bit before grabbing two.
He glanced inside and shook his head. Taemin looked at the television with eyes like stars, sparkling with excitement. Junghyuk took out the card behind the first and looked at the audience, the folded paper in hand.
Junghyuk smiled and opened the paper and read, "Kim Taehyung." Taehyung gasped in shock and Taemin started running around. "It happened, it happened, TaeTae is going to the prince school~" He singsonged.
Their mother looked at the television, dumbfounded. "B-but... how? I-i didn't even sign up for th- Taemin! What did you do?" Taehyung questioned.
"I signed up for you. One time per day. For over 6 months now." Taemin grinned. "Taemin, you know I can't leave you and Eomma here. I'm not going." Taehyung said softly.
Before Taemin could reply, the sound of a horse was heard. Taehyung's eyes widened and he walked towards the window and looked down. There he saw a carriage in blue and someone was walking towards their building.
Taehyung waited for a few moments and just like he guessed, a knock came from their door and Taehyung sighed, walking towards it.
"Kim Taehyung?" The man in black asked. Taehyung nodded but said, "I'm sorry, this seems to be a misunderstanding. My younger brother signed up for me and I don't wish to go." Taehyung explained.
Their mother, who had been silent for awhile finally said something, "Tae-ah, this is an opportunity for you to study. I know you want to earn money for us. But you have to think about your future too." She smiled.
"And plus, it's only a year. We will survive in a year. Don't worry." Mrs. Kim smiled. Taehyung sighed, "What about the coffee shop? Who's going to be in charge of it?"
"No worries, I could always ask your friends to help. They said they would when they have free time." Mrs. Kim said, trying to convince Taehyung. Taemin added, "And I heard that when you graduate in the school, you would be able to earn money."
Taehyung frowned, "But..." Mrs. Kim sighed, "No buts. You're going and that's final." She said. Taehyung frowned and sighed, "I'm not going to fit in, Eomma. The princes wear suits. I wear an apron with ketchup on my socks."
Mrs. Kim laughed, "But your personality is the most beautiful part of you, dear." Taehyung smiled, "Thanks, mom. But I don't think the princes would think so."
"Taehyung-ah, think about how lucky you are. It's a once in a life time that you would be able to go to a school like that. You can learn and you can earn money for us." Mrs. Kim smiled.
"We're going to be fine, hyung," Taemin spoke up. The man in the back uniform suddenly said, "Time is ticking." Taehyung looked between him and his family.
"Go, hyung. I don't want my effort to be wasted." Taemin grinned. Taehyung finally smiled, "Fine, I'll go." He announced. Taemin jumped around in joy.
"TaeTae is going to be a prince~ The most beautiful prince on the planet~ TaeTae is going to be a prince~" Taemin sang. Taehyung laughed and looked at the man in black.
"Can you give me some time to pack?" Taehyung questioned. "Time is ticking. Tick-tock. Tick-tock." He deadpanned. Taehyung panicked and looked at his family, he hugged them tightly and whispered, "I love you guys."
"We love you too!" Taemin beamed. Taehyung sighed and hugged them one last time before following the man out of the house. He tried to compose himself by taking deep breaths.
When the both of them reached the carriage, the man in black got on the horse and the carriage started moving. Taehyung's eyes widened and he rushed up beside and hoped on the carriage, sitting down.
He saw coffee on the table in front of him and he took a cup and placed some sugar inside. He placed the cup in front of his lips and breathed in the scent and was about to drink it when the carriage suddenly halted.
The coffee spilled on Taehyung's apron and he groaned. "How am I going to be a prince in training like this? I should not have come..." Taehyung thought.
Taehyung then glanced around and realized that they have finally arrived at the academy and stepped out of the carriage. Taehyung opened his mouth, "Could you maybe give me some dire-" before he could finish, the man in black went off.
"I guess not..." Taehyung mumbled. He looked in front of him and his eyes widened in awe, the academy was huge. Taehyung walked through the front gate and yelped when a dog pounced onto him suddenly, Taehyung falling flat on the ground.
Taehyung laughed when the dog started licking his face and pet the dog's fur gently, cooing. "Kim Taehyung?" An unfamiliar voice called out.
Taehyung looked up and saw the principle from the television. Taehyung stood up from the floor and bowed, "I'm so sorry."
The principal laughed, "There's nothing to be sorry for. Though Prince is normally shy to new students." Taehyung frowned, "Prince?" The principal laughed again, "Oh, that's the name of him." She said, pointing at the golden retriever next to Taehyung.
"Go and have your rest, Prince." The principal said. Prince looked at Taehyung one last time before going away. Taehyung smiled softly before turning his head to the principle.
"Welcome to Rosewood Royal Academy." She smiled.
