Chapter 31: Behind her smile [Part 2]
Three boys around her age have smug look in their faces and one of them walked forward,
"Hey spoiled girl, I asked you a question."
(Y/N)'s lips quivered, she tried to speak but no words came out.
"Hey look, little spoiled princess is about to cry!" A boy with ragged clothes said and he picked up a pebble from the ground.
"How about we teach her a lesson about trespassing our grounds."
The other two agreed with him. They started picking up pebbles and (Y/N)'s body began to shake as she sunk on the ground.
I'm not going to cry. She told herself as she tried to shield herself using her small arms.
The boys were about to throw the pebbles on her when another voice shouted out,
"Hey three of you!"
(Y/N) didn't look up as she still stayed on the ground.
"Are you alright?"
She knew that question is directed to her but she didn't answer. (Y/N) heard a sigh and someone pulled one of her arms gently away from her face. She looked up with tears pricking on her (E/C) orbs.
A boy with brown hair and chocolate brown eyes stared at her with a curious look.
"H-Hey it's okay, they won't hurt you I promise." He hesitated slightly while he said those words.
(Y/N) nodded slowly, she wiped the tears in her eyes and stood up dusting the dirt of her dress. She looked closely at the boy and she sees that he's only wearing worn out clothes with some dirt in it.
"Hey Bear, why are you helping her?" One of the boys from before asked him while narrowing his eyes at (Y/N).
Bear sighed,
"You three have forgotten about Lucks's main dream haven't you?"
"I don't want to offend Lucks but that's impossible." One of them said.
(Y/N) moved uncomfortably from her place and she spoke softly,
"T-Thank you..."
She did a proper curtsy to Bear and he said,
"It's nothing, plus it isn't their fault. But once you get to know those three, they aren't so bad. Will you give them another chance?"
The girl smiled brightly at them catching the three boys off guard,
"Of course, everyone deserves a second chance."
"I'm glad to hear that and by the way, my name is Bear!" He tried to bow politely like a gentleman would do, but he tripped, face-planting directly on the ground.
The three boys snickered behind him while Bear groaned out in pain. (Y/N) giggled a bit then she held out her hand to him,
"Are you okay Bear?"
The fallen boy looked stunned to see an upper class helping a lower class like him. He hesitantly hold (Y/N)'s hand and she pulled him up gently,
"I'm okay, thanks." He smiled at her causing the girl to grinned at him.
"By the way, my name is (Y/N)." She did another curtsy which made the boys laugh.
"What?"
Bear said,
"Isn't it tiring for you to curtsy every time you speak to someone? Plus we're different from you so you don't need to do it."
"It is actually tiring. And how are we different? We're all humans so I don't see anything different between us." Such big words came from a little child and it made Bear think that there's still hope for him and the gang.
"You're right, do you hear what (Y/N) said?" Bear turned to the three boys and the boys nodded understandingly.
One of them walked up to (Y/N), he wore a newspaper hat on him,
"I hate to admit this but, I'm sorry for what I did to you. It's because everyone who lives in this grounds hated the way how they were treated by the upper classes. We were treated like...trash."
"I-I'm sorry to hear that."
The boy shook his head,
"No need to pity me, I disliked those looks given to me yet they didn't help me at all. But I'm actually thankful that someone from the upper class treated me differently, in a good way of course."
(Y/N) took his hands which caught him by surprise,
"Let's be friends!" She also stared at the two boys behind him.
"Also with you two!" She beamed brightly at them.
The three of them cheered,"Yeah!"
Bear looked happily at them.
I hope Lucks was here, he would be so happy to see the equality between two different classes.
He walked up slowly to (Y/N) and tagged her back,
"Tag your it!" He grinned.
(Y/N) looked at Bear and the others who are now running away from her,
"I'll get you!"
She managed to tag one of the boys and now she's running away with Bear turning around the corners till they stop at a huge street and she saw a few kids playing around.
(Y/N)'s eyes stopped at a pole where a bunch of kids surrounded it. She managed to make out a dark-haired boy wearing a black cloak and she was surprised when the kids started hurting him, punching him around like a punching bag.
"B-Bear, why are they hurting him?" She tugged on Bear's sleeves.
The boy looked at what (Y/N)'s staring,
"Oh him. I don't know what's wrong with him but he seems to like it a lot."
(Y/N) widened her eyes at his words, she didn't believe him at first then she heard the boy being beaten up shouted in pleasure.
"More! Hurt me more!"
The girl shivered at his words and Bear took notice of this, he took her by the hand and they walked away.
(Y/N) couldn't help but glance at the cloaked boy.
I'm sorry I couldn't help you.
Bear and (Y/N) walked around hand in hand when they were separated by a huge busy crowd. She tried to reach Bear when someone grab her wrist.
"(Y/N)-chan where did you go?! I was worried about you!" Yuuka hugged her tightly and she started crying.
"Yuu-chan, I'm sorry I disobeyed you and Altaria." She felt tears pricked her eyes.
"It's okay, as long you're here with me, it's fine."
(Y/N) pulled away when she saw Altaria behind Yuuka. She immediately ran up to Altaria and hugged her,
"I'm sorry Altaria, I really am."
The old woman picked her up gently, wiping her tears away,
"I'm thankful that you're safe (Y/N)-sama. Look at your dress! It's covered with dirt, let's clean you up when we arrive back at the mansion."
(Y/N) nodded eagerly and hugged her again.
The three of them started walking back to the carriage when (Y/N) turned back and saw Bear grinning at her.
He mouthed,
I have fun today (Y/N), let's meet again sometimes. I'll tell the three boys that you have to leave.
The girl nodded smiling at him and she gave a gentle wave while Bear waved back at her happily. But the two didn't know that it was their first and last meeting till the tragedy occured .
-------------------------------------------
After the incident in the town, the three of them promised that it would be kept as a secret. Terra smiled happily at (Y/N) when she received a bouquet of roses from her. Endymion hugged her saying that she did a good job on getting roses for her mother. He also told her it would help Terra's recovery.
Altaria lectured (Y/N) on how she should not disobey the elders. The girl listened but she didn't regret meeting Bear and the three boys. What she regretted is not helping the cloaked boy.
"Ne Yuu-chan, can you tell me a bed time story?" (Y/N) asked her.
Yuuka smiled,
"What story do you want (Y/N)-chan?"
"Please tell me the story about you being ended up in here again."
Yuuka laughed softly,
"You have always loved that story."
(Y/N) nodded with a smile on her face.
"It all started when I was born at the icy mountains, you could say that I'm a snow maiden who treated everyone equally. It was said that snow maidens have hearts cold as ice and no one could thaw their hearts.
For me, I was different and the other snow maidens took notice of this. They started calling me some names like outsider or weak-hearted. It is then the elders decided I was banned from the icy mountains, never to return just because I was different from them. I ended up sleeping in front of a huge mansion and the next morning, a kind-hearted lady and her gentle husband took me in and gave everything I need to live. When they asked me to stay here, I stayed for good. I owe them a debt I couldn't repay so I helped around the mansion to show gratitude and when you were born, your parents also entrusted you in my care and I couldn't help but feel so happy that they trusted an outsider like me. When I first laid my eyes on you, I knew you and me are going to make lots of memories." Yuuka smiled as she finished her story.
"Do you miss your home back on the icy mountains?" (Y/N) asked her.
"I have to be honest that sometimes I miss the icy mountains, but then I realized that home is not always a place where you live but is the place where you feel loved and everyone treats you like you're part of the family even though you aren't blood-related."
(Y/N) yawned and rubbed her eyes,
"I'm happy that you're always here with me Yuu-chan."
Yuuka laughed,
"I'll always be with you (Y/N)-chan, and get some sleep. We're going to attend a ball tomorrow."
"Okay." She murmured.
The last thing (Y/N) saw was Yuuka's smiling face before she was taken away by slumber.
