Chapter 5 - The Sleepover - Part Two
Sitting down, Tamora stares at us for a bit before talking.
"So... You girls want to tell me what that was all about?" She asks, and Pearl and I look at each other and then back at her, unanimously smiling.
"What? What? Did I miss something? Why are you guys smiling like that?" She ask, suddenly very scared for what may come as our answers.
"Welllll..... Ya seeeeeeee..... They may have - ummm....- totally not really just probably maybe -ish- Uhhhh..... Asked us out? Not like that actually happened or anything...... I mean why would that happen... It's crazy. We made it up. Are you mad? Why are you looking at us like that?" We say at once, while Tamora just looks at us and smirks.
"Oh please. I saw it coming. With you, Sapphire, I saw it when Grayson was bugging you during lunch and class. With Pearl, I saw it when Ethan would look at you from across the room no matter what was going on during class. So yeah, I knew it was going to happen eventually." She just continues smirking, while Pearl and I look at each other in shock.
"Why didn't you tell us?" I ask (gee, Christina, I wonder why this sounds familiar.... Maybe the time I went on your phone and found.....), and Pearl agrees with me.
"I wanted it to be a surprise to both of you! Everyone in our group knows how naive you both are and never trusting what we tell you. (Again, Christina, sound familiar?) No matter how much we told you that he liked you, you never believed us. (Again, the familiarity is quite shocking.... I am on a roll!)" I have to hand it to her - that's as true as the sun revolving around the earth - we never believe them when they tell us things like this. I just shake my head, and decide to change the subject.
"So... Anyone in the mood for a snack before dinner?" I ask, getting up to head to the kitchen.
"Sure!" They both agree, and we go to get pretzels and salt. Forgive me, but pretzels never have enough salt! Seriously, it's a crime against humanity. Going to Tamora's room, we dump some salt in a bowl for us to share, each take another bowl for the pretzels, and get to doing what we always do - reading books. I take out Red Queen (literally one of my most favorite books ever - along with hundreds of others, since you cannot JUST pick one when every book you've ever read before in your life had been amazing!) and begin the first chapter.
Next to me, Pearl reads Maximum Ride, while Tamora reads The Magic Between Them on Wattpad. She sighs, probably comparing herself to Flit and Aaron to Jerome while she reads one of the make out scenes. I guess she wishes that would happen to her in real life...... I shake my head and start reading again, since I do NOT need to know what goes on behind our backs with Aaron... That's a scary thought. *Focus Sapphire, FOCUS. Do not think about it.... Do not think about i- ooh! Betrayal!* I read the rest of the book and then start reading The Selection. Time passes on, and Tamora keeps signing in imaginative content.
The clock strikes six, and we all head downstairs to begin helping with dinner. Tamora protests like always, insisting that we are the GUESTS and should NOT help, but like usual for Pearl and I, we protest against her and help anyway. That's basically our motto. Even if she doesn't want help, we are going to help. No. Matter. What. No matter what the thing is, we help. (Like over Winter Break when I helped make your bed, Christina! You protested as usual, and I didn't take that for an answer, and helped anyway. Because that's who I am. ;) Expect it to happen again.) Chopping up vegetables, we add some seasoning, a little oil, and (well, maybe too much for her parents to handle) a lot of salt. That's the thing - all three of us LOVE salt. Like, LOVE it. Maybe that's just us (or for other reasons I will not mention....... You know what I'm talking about), but we added a lot of salt, and put that out to cool a bit, since it was too hot for anyone to eat.
We then proceed to make salads, and then start making cupcakes for dessert (and they were awesome!!!). Combining all the ingredients, we put them in the pans and put them outside (potatoes were in the oven) for later. Serving ourselves some sparkling grape juice, we get our places ready, and soon enough it's time to eat. We wait for the adults to take their food first (Tamora's uncle came over to join us) and then take what we want. Let's see..... I take some potatoes, vegetables, some pork (her parents made that while we were making the cupcakes - and totally not eating all of the required chocolate chips.....), and add a little sauce.
Going into the other room (Yes, we ate in a different room. I mean, do YOU want to hear about politics and such when YOU'RE eating dinner? For those of you who do, I am sorry I let you down, but hey - I didn't feel like it.....) I set down my plate and go get the salt from Tamora's room, along with a salad. Both Pearl and Tamora sit across for me, with the salt sitting in-between us. Making sure her mom wasn't watching, we all dump more salt on our food (it "needed" it) and then proceed to start eating. While we eat the food we oh-so-amazingly did an awesome job making, we talk about random stuff.
"So... Tamora... What would you like to do after dinner?" Pearl asks. (Yes, we got bored enough to plan the future.)
"Hmmm... What about we do this cool spell I found! It's supposed to give you powers and a tail! Basically, turn you into a mermaid. They list a few powers, and I think it would be awesome to try out." She pulls up the spell on her phone. Pearl and I begin to read it over.
"Uh... Tamora, you need to be wet when saying this. I don't think we all should go in the shower, so.... More pool?" I ask, and she nods. Squealing, we finish up dinner as fast as we can and clean up our dishes. Carefully writing down the spell on a piece of paper, we put it next to the door (but out of the reach of the puppies). We then quickly (but SAFELY and PERFECTLY) make the ganache to top the cupcakes and put them in the oven, setting it for 25 minutes. Washing, drying, and putting away all the dishes, we change back into our swimsuits and head outside. All of us jump into the pool, and swim around for a bit before saying the spell together. Tamora gets the spell, and then joins us back in the water. We all read it out loud at the same time, careful to get every word right.
Tamora's mom comes out and lets us know that the cupcakes are done, and are cooling off. We thank her and end our playing, dry off, and change back into our previous clothes. By the time we are done, the cupcakes are cool enough for us to put the ganache on, in which we dip them in a bowl so they are perfectly covered, and then proceed to use forks, knives, spoons, and toothpicks to make awesome designs and decorations using what's left over of the ganache and chocolate chips. (In other words, not much.) We take the cupcakes into the other room (where we previously ate dinner) and let the ganache and designs dry before we attempt to eat them.
As Pearl reaches for a cupcake, it moves by itself and slams into the window next to me. Ganache facing the window. Tamora then tries to get a cupcake for herself, but it then flings itself into the wall at full speed. (Also known as 40 miles an hour.) We gape at each other as the cupcakes spray everywhere before running and cleaning them up as fast as we can before her parents see what (we?) did. When our panicking is done, we take out plates and each manage to get a cupcake and eat it before it flies away. Tamora's mom comes in the room and collects one of the trays (we put them on trays to dry) before taking it into the other room and leaving us alone.
"So, guys, what do you think happened right there? Tamora, did you set up a prank or something?" I ask, and she shakes her head.
"No, literally have NO idea what happened right there! I thought maybe you both set up a trap or something for ME!" She says, and Pearl and I look at each other.
"Tamora, we wouldn't do that! So what really happened then?" Pearl asks, and we all think for a few minutes before talking.
"Whatever, let's just go put out our sleeping stuff." Tamora begins her ascent to her room to get her things, and Pearl and I follow, leaving the rest of the cupcakes behind.
As I throw my pillow across the room to have it land on the couch, Pearl comes down the stairs and comes over to throw all her stuff on a different couch. As we both set up our sleeping bags, we hear Tamora shriek and start falling down the stairs with her blankets and pillows in her hands, before finally stopping be banging into the wall.
"Ouch, that's gotta hurt..." I whisper before running over and helping Tamora up. I grab all her blankets and pillows from her and walk over putting them where she will be sleeping. Tamora thanks me (much to her dismay) and goes back upstairs to get on her pajamas and do the rest of the night-time routine everyone does. Pearl and I take turns doing the same, and we all meet back in the usual room (the sleeping room, as we may as well call it). I get all of us glasses of water and Tamora puts on a new movie we've been dying to see. As we watch the advertisements, we all snuggle in our sleeping bags and hug our stuffed animals (What? They go everywhere with us! Can you really blame us for not wanting them to be lonely and feel unwanted?).
Just as the movie begins, Tamora shrieks as she has accidentally spilled her water all over herself and now must get up to dry it off the couch. (Not that her blankets or pillows matter, of course) Pearl and I sigh and pause the movie, waiting for her to be done. No, we didn't feel like helping this time, I mean seriously - we were all snuggled up and warm! Tamora climbs back under her pile of blankets, and I hit play.
"So, guys, what did you think of the movie?" I ask. The only response I hear is a small snore from Tamora. Awwww... Poor thing must have fallen asleep! "Hey, Pearl, Tamora fell asleep!" I whisper, and she sits up a bit straighter.
"Do you think we should go to sleep, then? I mean, no use talking if we are going to wake her up." She replies, and I nod. Even though she can't see me in the dark.
"Sure, let's just go to bed and talk in the morning." I answer, and I lay down (I was sitting up before) and hug my stuffed animals. A few minutes later, I drift off to sleep.
A bright light hits me as I wake up. Groaning, I flip to the other side in an attempt to make it go away. It helps a bit. I try falling asleep again and fail, because Tamora accidentally hit me on the head while getting her phone. Blindly reaching out, I grab my phone and turn it on, getting a bunch of Skype messages immediately. Turning to lay on my stomach, I scroll through a bunch of the groups I'm in and reply to a few conversations. When I'm about to get out of the app, I simultaneously get two messages, one from Pearl and one from Tamora. Each of them type out good morning, and I send them each a yawn back. I guess Tamora's dad is up because the puppies start barking at the top of their lungs and running around. I slowly pick myself up and get out my clothes for the day. Finishing the rest of my morning routine, I head to the bathroom to change.
When I am done, I pack up the rest of my things and scroll through Wattpad while I wait for Tamora and Pearl to finish getting ready. Let's see.... Recommended books... Magic, magic, magic, magic.... - WAIT. A Justin Bieber fanfic ?!? NOOOOOO..... - (for all of those who know me well enough, you know I'm not that big of a fan of him. Like at all.) I decide to pretend that I never saw that - or the incredibly distressful cover - and move on to write a bit on one of my two stories. (May I just say... How ironic!) Just as I am finishing up a make out scene of Flit and Jerome (From my other story), Pearl comes out and joins me on writing. I show her what I've written so far and she snickers, trying to keep as calm about it as possible so Tamora wouldn't wonder what we were doing. (While trying not to laugh hysterically)
Pearl then shows me what she's written for her newest chapter of Flying Freedom, and I start laughing at the incredibly shameless Flit, who loves to flirt with Lachlan but is in love with Jerome. It's sad, actually, because she insists that Lachlan is her soul mate, but that Jerome is the perfect person for her. Like, how is that even possible? Oh well, I guess she chose Jerome, so too bad for Lachlan! While I finish reading what Pearl wrote, Tamora comes down, all finished, and demands to know what we were reading. Trying (and failing) to hold back laughter, we tell her we are just reading this fanfic about....... One Direction. (Again, real life knowers, you know I am NOT a fan of them either. At all.) Tamora unfortunately knows us too well and doesn't buy it. She just rolls her eyes and goes on to read a fanfic about Flit and Jerome. Seriously. Again. It's all she reads. She must REALLY be obsessed with Jerome!
A few moments later, Tamora's dad comes in the room and tells us that breakfast is ready, and we should eat before we leave. Nodding our heads, we head it the kitchen and pour ourselves some orange juice. While we eat, we scroll through Wattpad some more (because let's be real here, who wouldn't?), and Tamora keeps sighing. I guess Jerome must really be getting to her! Wait - I forgot that Tamora is with Aaron now! Shouldn't she be wishing that HE was there? And not Jerome?
It's times like now that I decide to just smile and nod, not responding any further than that. I don't think it's really worth it, since she does it so much. It would basically crush her dreams! That's how bad it would be. As I finish my orange juice and put my dishes away, the doorbell rings. Tamora's dad goes to answer it, and it turns out that our mom is here to drive us home. Saying goodbye to Tamora, we pack all of our things into the car and head home thinking about the night before.
Hey everyone! Thank you so much for reading this far into the story (whether or not you actually wants to or were forced against your wills). I would like to thank you all for being so supportive and kind so that I could keep this story going for the people who love to read it. It means so much to me to hear that you all enjoy this story so much and can't wait until the next update. On another note, happy finals! As you may (or may not) know, they are so fun. Really. Ish. Well, I can write when I finish early, so they're not so bad. Anyway, I will work on updating again so that you will have something new to read eventually. Until then, my readers!
~Chrissy
