Chapter 1: We Will Met Again
I stood at the edge of the sandy shore. The light of the setting sun made the ocean water glisten. My hair gently blew with the breeze. I stared off into the distance.
I wish this summer would last forever. This view is beautiful.
I turned to walk back to the hotel when I saw him. His golden hair shined in the low light. His emerald green made his face light up.
Who is he? I haven't seen him here before.
My family and I come here ever summer to stay at a beach house on a private beach. I always see the same people here and a occasional new person.
That's probably it. He must be new here.
"Hello?" I called out.
The boy didn't seem to hear me. I slowly approached him.
"Hello?" I called out again.
"The view is nice." he stated, staring off into the distance.
"Yeah. It is." I replied.
He isn't looking at me. The beautiful view must really be captivating him.
"I'm Ayaka Monoko. It is nice to meet you." I said, trying to start a conversation.
"Nice to meet you, Aya-chan." he replied.
He called me Aya-chan. He must be Japanese.
"So, when did you get here?" I asked.
"I've been here for a long time."
"I haven't seen you around."
"I usually only go out around sun set to admire the view."
He suddenly pulled me into his arms and spun me around as a waved crashed onto the shore.
"Your dress almost got wet." he said as put me down.
"Th-Thank you." I replied, my voice cracking slightly. "Oh."
I stared at him as salty sea water dripped from his soaked clothes.
"I'll be fine. Don't worry." he smiled.
We both sat down on the sandy shore and watched day turn into night. The stars peered out in the night sky and lite up the darkness.
"It's beautiful." I stated, stating into the the distance.
"How long will you be here?" he suddenly asked.
"This is my last night here." I replied, staring down at the ground.
"Then..."
He cupped my chin into his hand and pulled my face closer to his.
Our lips our about to-
"Ayaka!"
"Huh?"
I slowly picked up my head.
"Class is about to start! You fell asleep again!"
"Sorry." I yawned.
"What am I going to do with you, Aya?"
"I won't fall asleep anymore. I promise, Rei-chan."
"You are such a liar." murmured Rei as she took her seat.
Introduction time! I am 17 year old, Ayaka Monoko of class 2-B. I have a habit of falling asleep in class but I can't help it. With two annoying little brothers at home, how could anyone fall asleep? I am an average high school student attending Akebono Academy in Akihabara, Japan. My best friend Reiko Haru, but I call her Rei-chan for short! I am very creative and inventive. I'm always coming up with new ideas. My favorite season is summer because I get to spend it at the ocean and that is where I made my greatest memory ever. I got my first kiss from an attractive boy I met on the beach. He was so dreamy! I never caught his name though but I still remember what he looks like. I haven't seen him since that moment and that was two years ago. I still haven't given up on him. I know we will met again! Now onto my appearance! I have straight, light brown hair that goes down to my breasts. I have light, blue eyes and a fair colored skin. I am not picky about what I wear and can usually seen wearing many different clothing styles outside of school. I am only 5' 5". That is pretty short compared to the other girls in my grade! I wish I was taller! That is enough about me! Let's get back to the story!
Our math teacher, Mrs. Yuka Katsumi, walked into the classroom and a dressed everyone.
"Class, on today's agenda, we will be starting the next lesson in our algebra 2 course and I shall be handing back yesterday's test."
"Crap." I murmured.
I rested my head on the desk and pouted.
"What's wrong, Aya?"
"I did horrible. I know it, Hina-kun." I pouted.
This is Hina Hitomi. She has very pretty short, neon blue hair and violet colored eyes. She is the smartest girl in our whole grade and one of my closest friends.
"I'm sure you did better than the last test. You did study, right?"
I pouted even more.
"Don't worry. I help you study for the next one." she smiled.
"Thanks, Hina-chan."
"I am very disappointed in you, Ms. Monoko." said Mrs. Katsumi as she placed my test onto my desk.
I froze when I saw my grade.
"I expect you to do better on the next test if you want to pass this class."
"Yes, Mrs. Katsumi." I muttered as she handed out the next test to the next person.
"What did you get on your test?" asked Kyo Fujitaka, the class rebel with slick black hair and hazel eyes.
"None of your business!" I shouted as I covered up my paper.
He managed to pull it away from me.
"30%? You are a real block head, Monoko."
I snatched my test back and snarled, "I bet you didn't do any better?"
"Oh yeah? Take a look at this!"
He shoved his paper in my face. I looked at it and laughed.
"What's so funny!?" he hollered.
He took a look at his paper.
"Haha. Very funny. Woo, 69%. You are such an immature brat."
"I am more mature than you!"
"Monoko! Fujitaka! Enough!"
"Sorry sensei." we both said in unison.
"Now onto the lesson."
As the day progressed, I had fallen asleep two more times in two other classes and got a pile of homework. I felt very stressed out as I walked home from school.
"Mom is going to kill me when she sees this test." I muttered.
"Ayaka!" shouted a voice.
It turned around.
"Oh, hey Tama-chan!"
Tama Shinozaki is 20 year old girl that graduated from our school. She has pretty pink hair that she always keeps into two, low pigtails. She has dark pink colored eyes and is 6' 2". She is so tall! I first met Tama when she protected me from a group of kids that were harassing me at school. We have been friends ever since.
"What's with the long face?" she asked.
I pulled out my test and showed her.
"Another bad grade? You really need to study, kiddo."
"I know." I muttered. "Study is to boring though."
"If you want to pass the grade then you have to study."
"I know."
"How about we stop by the game center to raise your spirits?"
"Yeah!" I said excitedly.
We both walked to the game center, where we were both greeted by Kaito Hibiki, the manager of the game center and Tama-chan's boyfriend.
"Hey Monoko. Hey Tama."
The two of them kissed.
Get a room. Every time I'm with them they start kissing.
"Come to play some games on your way home, Monoko?"
"Yup!"
"How about you, Tama?"
"I'll play a few games." she said, giving him a seductive look.
"Blek!"
The two of them laughed at me. I left the two of them to play the Magic Fighters game.
"Almost beat the level!" I hollered as I played.
I was about to make it when I got killed by a flying serpent. I sighed.
"Time to go home. If I stay out any longer, mom will be even more upset." I muttered.
I waved goodbye to Tama-chan and Hibiki-kun and headed home. As I walked down the driveway to the house, one of my little brothers throw at foam football at the side of my head.
"Namito!" I hollered.
He laughed and ran into the house.
"I'll get you! You hear me!?"
"I see you are as lively as ever, Ayaka."
I turned around and said, "Good evening, Mrs. Okuma."
Mrs. Okuma is our next door neighbor. She is a kind and caring elderly woman.
"It is great to see you and your brothers get along so well."
"If you call getting hit in the face with a foam football well."
We both laughed.
"It was nice seeing you but I must be off now. Bye Ayaka."
"Bye, Mrs. Okuma!"
I entered the house.
"I'm home!"
"Welcome home, Hotaru!" shouted my mother.
My mother calls me Hotaru time to time since that is the nickname she gave me as a child. Hotaru means firefly. She calls me that because I would always go out and chase the fireflies whenever I saw them. I still love chasing fireflies, even as a teenager.
I walked into the kitchen to see my mother cooking dinner. My other little brother, Rito, was sitting quietly at the kitchen table, drawing a picture. I peeked into the living room to see my father reading the paper. Namito was sitting on the living room floor playing with his toy truck.
"Ayaka." called my mother.
I turned towards her and said, "What is it, mom?"
"I ran into Hitomi-chan on my way back from the market. She told me how she got 100% on her algebra test. How did you do?"
"Umm..."
Thanks alot Hina-chan.
Namito ran in a snatched the test from my bag.
"Here you are mom." he snickered as he ran back into the living room.
She stared at it for a long time.
"Ayaka!!" she yelled. "Another bad grade! Don't bother coming home with these bad grades!"
Mom shoved me out the front door and locked it.
"Mom!!! Let me in!!! Please!! I'll do better next time!!"
I continued to shout and bang my fists on the door. My mother finally opened the door and pulled me inside.
"You'll wake the neighbors with all that shouting! You better do better on your next test or I'll take away your allowance!"
"Fine..." I grumbled.
I trudged upstairs and into my bedroom. I shut the door and collapsed onto my bed.
"It isn't my fault that I'm bad at algebra. It is my only bad subject. Hina-chan will help me out though."
I sat up, feeling more enthusiastic.
"With the smartest girl in our grade helping me, I'm sure to pass the next test!"
I dumped out my bag and lined up all my books.
"I have way to much homework..."
I was bummed out again.
"How am I going to get it all done?"
I let out a long sigh.
"I just need a little break before I start homework."
I got up, sat down at my desk, picked up my pencil, and began to draw. Drawing is one of the few things that I'm exceptionally good at. It is also my biggest hobby. My dream is to become a famous manga artist. I love anime and manga so I really want to turn it into a career. The pencil moved elegantly across the sheet of white paper. Numerous lines and curves came together. I carefully shaded different areas of the drawing. It came together perfectly.
"Done." I said, panting slightly.
I had drawn a picture of the boy I meet that summer night by the ocean. I loved drawing him. He was so perfect, so handsome.
When we met again, I'll show you all my drawings. I'll even give you one to remember me by.
"Nee-chan." *Nee-chan is one way of saying older sister*
I spun around in my chair.
"What is it, Otouto?" I asked. *Otouto means little brother*
"Dinner is ready."
"I'll be down in just a moment."
He smiled and nodded as he went back downstairs. I stood up and carefully slide the drawing into my binder filled with numerous other drawings I drew. I then trotted out of my room and downstairs into the kitchen, where everyone was sitting at the table. I took my usual seat between my father and brother, Rito.
I put my hands together and said, "Itadakimasu!" *Itadakimasu is commonly said before eating a meal. It means I gratefully receive*
I grabbed my chopsticks and dug into dinner. Tonight we our having white rice, mix vegtables, baked salmon, and a small bowl of udon soup.
"This is delicious!"
"I'm glad you like it, Hotaru." said my mother.
"So, how was school?" asked my father.
"It was fine." I said between bites.
"Except for her test." added Namito.
I growled at him but he only laughed.
"What did you get?" he asked.
"30%" I muttered quietly.
"30%? I'm ashamed of you."
"Let's just talk about something a little more cheery." chimed my mother.
I decide to quickly scarf down the rest of my food.
"Gochisosama." I said as I picked up my dishes and put them in the dish water.
I ran up the stairs and into my room. I slammed the door shut.
Father is never proud of me. I wish he pay more attention to the things I'm good at rather than my flaws.
I plopped down on my bed and began to work on my homework.
"Homework is so boring." I murmured.
After about an hour, I completed all my homework. I shoved it into my bag and then through it onto the floor.
"I'm so tired." I yawned. "I'll just take a little nap."
I slowly shut my eyes and fell asleep.
I awoken the next day.
"I got a good night's sleep." I said as I stretched.
I took a look at the clock.
"Ahh!!!" I screamed. "I'm going to be late!"
I quickly got dressed and grabbed my bag. I charged down the stairs.
"Good morning, Hotaru." said my mother as I grabbed my lunch box.
"Why didn't you wake me!?" I hollered
"I tried to wake you up three times. You just wouldn't budge."
I grabbed a piece of bread and scarfed it down. I ran to the door and slipped on my shoes.
"I'm off to school! Bye!"
I ran out the door and charged down the street.
"There you are, Ayaka." said Rei as I enetered the classroom. "You barley made it in time. You need to be more timely."
"I know." I muttered as I took my seat.
"Hey Block Head." said Kyo.
"Can it, Fujitaka." I snarked.
Our homeroom teacher, who is also my math teacher, entered the classroom. Everyone took their seats as she took attendance.
The day progressed like any other. I got lots of homework, learned a few new things, hung out with my friends, and got into an argument with the class rebel, Fujitaka. I walked home, humming a little tune. I turned the corner and stopped dead in my tracks. I looked across the street. My heart froze.
No way. It can't be. Can it?
I focused and looked closer.
It's unmistakable. It is him.
