4 - Get A Little Closer

Day 3 - Wednesday

"Anyone up for archery?"

"I feel like Gabriel might shoot us with we do..."

"Hey, I will not."

Dean just rolled his eyes. "We don't trust you Gabriel."

"Why ever not?" Gabriel asked.

"The list is endless," Cas said.

"You're no fun Cassie," Gabriel said. "Fine. You don't want me there, I'll go some other time."

"I'm fine with that," Dean said. "Cas, you in?"

"Sure," Cas replied.

"Sam?" Dean asked to the silent kid beside him.

"I'll stay with Gabriel," Sam said quietly.

"You sure?" Dean asked. "You're fine with that?" Sam nodded. "Okay...," Dean said hesitantly.

"Don't worry Deano, I'll keep him out of trouble," Gabe said. Dean just sighed and walked out the cabin door, Cas following behind him.

"I don't think your brother likes me much," Gabriel said to Sam.

"He thinks you're a bad influence on me," Sam said, shrugging.

"Well screw him, I'm great," Gabe said. Sam laughed.

"What are we going to do?" Sam asked.

"Well archery is the only thing really running today," Gabe said. "You'd think Luce and Michael would hire staff to actually run the damn activities. So I dunno, we could just hang out somewhere?"

Sam smiled and nodded. "Around the lake? It looked nice there."

"Sure kiddo," Gabe said, smiling softly.

They walked out of the cabin, making their way around the massive lake. Sam was right, it was peaceful at the back. No one was really bothered enough to walk all the way around, leaving Sam and Gabe alone.

Sam sat down on the soft grass, facing the lake. Gabe flopped down beside him, lying down on the grass.

"The sun feels nice," Gabe muttered, closing his eyes. Sam glanced over at him, smiling at the older one.

Sam did actually really like Gabriel. He was one of the few people who didn't even mention the fact that he barely talked, instead just treating him like a normal person. Not only that, but Gabriel was fun, kind, cute...what? I did not just think that. Nope, denying.

"Hey Sammy," Gabe said. "You know Cas right?"

"Yeah," Sam said slowly.

"You know he doesn't hate me right?"

"Well yeah, obviously."

"Which means there's a reason that he's trying to get rid of me."

Sam was silent for a moment and then smirked. "It would seem like he's trying to hang out with Dean."

"My god," Gabe said, sitting up. "Cassie has a crush."

"But...Dean's straight."

"Oh we'll see about that. How many times do you think we'll have to push them together before we see Dean getting flustered?"

Sam laughed. "Weren't we going to do that to Michifer?"

"Michifer?"

"Michael and Lucifer. I made a ship name."

"Is that what you do in that head of yours?"

"Yep."

"Sounds like every fandom ever."

"It pretty much is."

Gabe chuckled. Sam smiled, finding that he was very quickly starting to love the sound of Gabriel's laugh.

"You know, Michael and Lucifer have been friends since before I can even remember. Except it's always been obvious that they like each other more than that."

"Often it's obvious to everyone except the actual person," Sam said.

"Well yeah, but I mean come on. With Lucifer's amount of flirting you'd think something would've happened."

Sam just smiled, and Gabe lied back down on the grass, closing his eyes again.

~~

Dean picked up the bow, standing in front of the target. He'd done archery here every year, it was one of the repeated activities. Michael was off to the side, watching to make sure no one was shot with an arrow.

"Dean," Cas said. "I've never used one of these." He was holding the bow awkwardly. Dean just chuckled.

"Hold it in your left hand," Dean said. "By the handle." Cas did that. "Aand maybe face the bow the other way if you don't want to shoot yourself."

"Oops," Cas said, turning the bow the other way. Dean just smiled at the younger boy, before grabbing an arrow and shooting it dead centre into the target. Cas watched with wide eyes as Dean repeated that twice, hitting almost the same spot. "How...?"

"I'm sorta good with weapons," Dean said. "Dad taught me at a young age."

Cas nodded, and went to stand where Dean was, holding the bow up and pulling the string back.

"Cas you need an arrow."

"What? Yeah I knew that." Cas took the arrow Dean was holding out to him, fitting it onto the string. He pulled the string back...

"Cas you're holding it wrong," Dean said, moving Castiel's hands so they were in the right position, and then angling the bow correctly. "Okay now shoot."

Cas nodded and pulled the string back, before letting the arrow fly. Straight into the centre of the target beside Dean's.

So maybe he lied. He knew how to use a bow and arrow. He just liked having Dean help him. Not because he liked him or anything. Oh who am I kidding, Cas thought. Something about that goddamn green eyes...

"Wow Cas," Dean said. "Do that again or it was beginner's luck." Cas shot another arrow, hitting the centre circle again. "Okay you're a natural at this. And to think I was helping you."

Cas smirked. "Wanna have a competition?"

"You're on," Dean said, smiling. "Five arrows each."

"Deal," Cas said.

Dean went first. His five shots had almost perfect accuracy, one of them hitting the 9 point circle.

Cas went, and couldn't do as well as Dean. He got one point less, two arrows hitting the 9 point circle.

Dean smirked. "What do I win?"

"A sad feeling," Cas said.

"Aww," Dean said, but couldn't stop the smile from breaking across his face.

"You're supposed to be sad," Cas said, walking over to put the bow away.

"I can't be sad, not when—" Dean cut himself off.

"When what?"

"Nothing."

Cas looked at Dean carefully. He looked surprised at himself, as if he'd been about to say something that he didn't even know in the first place. Cas shrugged it off.

"Shall we go get lunch?" Cas asked and Dean nodded.

~~

Sam heard the bell signifying that lunch was ready, and looked down to see if Gabriel had heard. Gabe was still lying on the grass with his eyes closed.

"Gabriel?" Sam asked. No reaction. Sam poked him in the arm gently. Nothing. Sam noted that his breathing was slow and steady before smiling softly. Gabe had fallen asleep. "Stay here, I'll be back."

Sam stood, and quickly walked back around to the other side of the lake and straight to the hall where the staff was serving lunch. It was just plain sandwiches, nothing special.

"Sammy!" Sam turned to see Dean standing there. "Where's Gabriel? He didn't ditch you did he? That bitch."

"No he didn't," Sam said, rolling his eyes. "He fell asleep. I'm just getting lunch for both of us."

"Lazy assbutt," Cas muttered.

"Assbutt?" Dean said, amused. "What kind of an insult is that?"

"The best one," Cas said, getting his sandwich as they reached the front of the line. Sam and Dean got theirs too, Sam getting an extra one for Gabe.

"I'm assuming you're heading back to Gabriel?" Dean asked Sam and Sam nodded. "Well I'm going back to the cabin, my arm hurts like hell."

"That's why you actually use the wrist guard thing," Cas said, rolling his eyes. Dean just shrugged.

"Never used it before, don't see why I need it now."

"Idiot. See you later Sam."

Sam nodded to the two of them, before running back off to the back of the lake.

Gabe was still sleeping, looking so peaceful in the afternoon sun. The light was reflecting off his golden hair, making it practically glow.

Sam smiled as he sat beside Gabriel, his heart beating just the tiniest bit faster.

"Gabriel," he said softly, nudging Gabriel. Gabe made a sound, before wearily opening his eyes.

"God it's bright out here," he muttered, sitting up. Sam chuckled before holding out a sandwich for him.

"Lunch," Sam said.

"You left and came back while I was sleeping?" Gabe asked, taking the sandwich.

"Didn't want to wake you," Sam said. "You looked peaceful."

"Well thanks kiddo," Gabe said, taking a bite from the sandwich. "Did you see Dean and Cassie?" Sam nodded. "Any evidence of our assumption."

"Not anything obvious," Sam said.

"Hmm, we need to investigate this," Gabriel said, finishing the sandwich in record time. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a lollipop.

"Do you have an endless supply of those?" Sam asked.

"Course I do, can't live without candy now can I?" Gabe asked. Sam laughed quietly.

~~

Later that day, Michael and Lucifer retired to their cabin after everyone else did the same. Michael had been at the archery set up all day, while Luci was wandering around, lost without his archangel.

"What's tomorrow?" Michael asked.

"Isn't tomorrow the rock climbing?" Lucifer asked, lying down on the couch.

"Yeah," Michael said. "Everyone should be coming to that. Simply for the reason that we'll both be going and I don't trust these kids to be unsupervised."

"Such little trust," Lucifer said.

"Would you trust Gabriel?"

"Hell no. We're definitely dragging him with us."

"You were right about Dean and Cas by the way," Michael said, smiling and leaning on the back of the couch to look down at Lucifer. "They're adorable."

"What, they're not hanging out with their brothers?" Lucifer asked.

"Nope, don't know where Gabriel and Sam were."

"That doesn't seem right," Lucifer muttered. "Dean's overprotective."

Michael just shrugged, before rolling over the back of the couch and landing beside Lucifer. Which pushed Lucifer off the couch.

"Hey!" Lucifer said, before grabbing Michael's arm and dragging him off the couch. Michael fell to the floor and Lucifer jumped over him and back onto the couch. Michael jumped onto the couch next to him, pushing him off again, and Lucifer pulled him down with him this time, causing Michael to fall onto his chest and wind him.

"You okay?" Michael asked, as Lucifer gasped for breath.

"I'll be good," Lucifer breathed. He didn't mention the fact that Michael was in fact still lying on top of him. They were close enough friends that they pretty much didn't have boundaries anyway.

Michael moved to the side, to Lucifer's disappointment, before getting back on the couch.

"Oh come on," Lucifer said, still catching his breath.

Michael just smirked, lying down on the couch and looking at Lucifer on the floor beside him. Lucifer just grumbled, before sitting up. He pushed Michael over, before lying next to him on the couch. It was a tight fit, but neither really cared.

Also, neither of them pointed out the fact that they had two couches.

Funny realization that this entire story is pretty much just gonna be fluff :P
