25 - Last Goodnight

Last week, Day 25 of 26 - Thursday

Thursday. Their last full day.

The air around them was full of unspoken sadness in the morning as they all woke up. Sam and Dean both had to start packing up their stuff, seeing as they didn't want to spend their last few hours with their boyfriends packing.

"You barely brought anything," Cas said, holding one of Dean's shirts as Dean tried to stuff everything back into his bag. "It's been a month. How many times have you worn the same shirt?"

"Do you really want me to answer that Cas?" Dean said, grabbing the shirt from Cas and tossing it into the bag.

"Probably not," Cas said, leaning back against the bed. He was sitting on the floor beside Dean's bag.

Dean threw in the last few things lying around and looked at the bag triumphantly.

"Dean, you have to close the bag."

"Shhhh no I don't."

"Everything will fall out."

"Don't use logic on me."

"But logic is...logic."

"Such a creative response there."

"Shut up I'm great."

"Yeah...yeah you are." Dean smiled softly at Cas, a loving look in his eyes. Cas smiled before reaching over to grab Dean, pulling him back to him and kissing him. Dean let Cas drag him over there, moving a hand up to thread through Cas's hair and the other resting on his hip.

"I'll miss this," Dean said as he pulled away briefly before kissing Cas softly again.

"You say that like there's no chance of it happening again," Cas said. Dean sighed and pulled away.

"I just..." Dean said. "I don't know Cas."

"You're scared," Cas noted. "You don't want to lose me but you're afraid that you've got no choice. I can still read you Dean."

Dean smiled. "Saves me having to talk about my feelings."

"Perfect match," Cas said, smiling. He pressed a soft kiss to Dean's lips before moving over to the unzipped bag on the floor. "Now, help me with this?"

"This won't work," Dean said. "I would've actually have had to make it neat for it to close."

"Then why didn't you?"

"Dude. Have you met me?"

"No. We've been staying in the same room for a month and you're my boyfriend, but I haven't met you."

"Don't you sass me."

"Just coz you can't handle the sass."

Dean gave Cas a playful glare before getting a mischievous look. Cas barely had any warning before Dean jumped over and started tickling Cas's sides. Cas yelped and fell onto his back, Dean climbing on top of him to keep tickling him.

"Dean stop!" Cas tried to say while laughing.

"That's what you get for sassing me!" Dean said, laughing as Cas tried to push him away. Cas suddenly pulled Dean down into a kiss, which abruptly stopped Dean from tickling him. Cas took that opportunity to push Dean off and get a safe distance away.

Dean gave Cas a betrayed look. "How could you do this to me?"

"Quite easily," Cas said. "All I had to do was—" Dean glared at him and Cas just started laughing.

Meanwhile, in the other room. Gabriel was helping Sam pack. But it's Gabriel, so he wasn't really helping at all.

"You know this would go a lot faster if you didn't take out everything I put in there in the first place," Sam said, looking at Gabriel who was going through his stuff.

"Neh," Gabe said, looking at one of Sam's fandom shirts. He got bored and threw it away, grabbing another shirt to inspect. Except he was taking them from the packed bag, and whenever Sam put one in he would just take it out again.

"Gaabe come on," Sam said. "I get that you don't want me to leave but I need to pack."

"Can't leave if you haven't packed," Gabe muttered, pulling out another shirt. Sam gave Gabe a sad look.

"Hey come on," Sam said. "Don't be like that."

"Too late," Gabe said, looking up at Sam's sad eyes. He gave him a sad smile and ruffled his hair. Sam pouted at him.

"If I finish packing then we can stop thinking about me leaving," Sam pointed out.

"Fine," Gabe said, and folded the shirt back into the bag.

Without Gabriel constantly pulling everything out, Sam got everything packed and the bag closed quite quickly. They had heard Dean start tickling Cas so decided not to bother them and when and sat on the couch in their cabin, simply enjoying each others company while it lasted.

~~

The four of them spent the day just hanging out and being normal with each other. The actual topic of them leaving didn't come up until when the sun had began to set.

"Guys," Michael said when they were all up at the hall. "This is your last night here. Stop pretending this is normal."

"Let us pretend," Gabe said.

Michael looked at him sadly. "Luce you just had to get the couples that wouldn't be able to see each other again together."

"The ship will survive," Luci whispered dramatically. Michael sighed.

"You guys wanna have a cliché camp moment?" Michael asked.

"Sure, why not?" Dean said, shrugging.

"Come with me," Michael said. He led all of them outside to where it was now dark, to where they'd had the bonfire on the weekend. They'd created a small campfire there instead, which Luci lit somehow. No one questioned it.

The six of them sat around the campfire. Sam was leaning back against Gabe while Gabe had both his arms around Sam. Dean had an arm around Cas who was sitting beside him. No one wanted to let each other go.

They sat in silence for a while, Michael and Luci not really knowing what to say.

"Come on guys," Michael said eventually. "Cheer up would you?"

"Yeah let's have some fun," Luci said. "Mikey you used to play guitar around the campfire."

"Yeah Michael, when did you stop doing that?" Dean asked.

"I didn't," Michael said. "It's just been a year since we had a small campfire like this." He stood up, walking to his cabin, and returned with an acoustic guitar. "I may be out of practice."

"Babe, no one really cares," Luci said, smiling up at his boyfriend.

"When did you start with the pet names?" Gabe asked.

"Since I discovered he blushes when I say them," Luci said, and Michael looked away pointedly, trying to hide his face. Luci chuckled softly.

Michael sat down with the guitar and started playing a quiet tune. It wasn't necessarily a sad song, but it wasn't happy either.

So they sat there for a while, with only the sound of the crackling fire and Michael's soft guitar playing. Michael started to hum along under his breath, and Luci was just watching him with this adorable love filled smile.

Eventually Michael started playing a familiar tune to all of them. Dean made a little choked noise when he heard it. Michael smiled at Dean's reaction and started singing the words to the song. Dean just shook his head before quietly joining in. Luci followed, and so did Gabe. Cas didn't know the song well but tried, and Sam was just humming along.

They did that through the entire song, but who can be bothered typing out entire lyrics? So here's what it ended on.

Carry on my wayward son,

There'll be peace when you are done,

Lay your weary head to rest,

Don't you cry no more.

Michael stopped playing after that, and the six of them sat in silence as the campfire started to fade away.

"You guys should probably go back to the cabin," Michael said as the fire died. "Get some sleep."

The four didn't even respond, but stood up and walked back to the cabin.

"Do you think they'll be okay?" Michael said, watching them leave.

"They will be," Luci said. "The author can't bear sad endings. Hence the sequel."

"Shut up."

"Make me."

This resulted in some what of a make out session between the two of them back at their own cabin.

~~

Destiel and Sabriel got back to their cabin and kind of just stood around for a bit.

"You guys wanna share a room?" Dean asked suddenly. "I mean, we only take up two beds with the four of us."

"Yeah," Sam said, the other two agreeing, and they all walked into one room.

Dean and Cas sat side by side on one bed, leaning against the wall with their hands intertwined. Gabe sat cross legged at the head of the other bed, Sam laying down with his head in Gabe's lap.

"So," Cas said. "Obviously none of us are sleeping. Wanna have a repeat of our first night here?"

"What, 20 questions?" Dean said with a small smile. "That was when we barely knew you guys though."

"So?" Cas said, smiling. "There's still things we don't know."

"Yeah," Gabe said. "You can't learn everything in a month."

"Dean," Cas said. "You're graduating this year right? Are you going to college?"

"Maybe," Dean said. "I don't need it to be a mechanic, but maybe I could be more than that."

"Gabe," Sam said. "Did you ever decide what you're going to do in college?"

"I was thinking about it," Gabe said. "Michael playing guitar kind of reminded me I used to play. Maybe I'll pick up music again."

"Well since everyone's asking," Dean said. "Cas, what are you doing?"

"My answer's still the same," Cas said. "Psychology."

"You still want to be a lawyer Sammy?" Gabe asked, absently stroking Sam's hair.

"Maybe," Sam said. "I mean...I guess."

"You don't sound sure."

"It's my most logical option. I just don't know if it's the best one."

"You have four years," Gabe said. "No need to rush into the decision." He winced as he remember the age gap that meant they had.

"Okay I have a question," Dean said. "How many Novak's are there really?"

"Too many," Cas said.

"Does Novak's include our cousins?" Gabe asked. "Because that's impossible to count."

"How do you have such a big family?" Dean asked. "Really?"

"Adoption," Cas said. "Mostly with our cousins. And most of us have angel names too."

"Don't question it," Gabe added.

"Yet no brother called Michael," Dean said.

"Not yet," Gabe said. "Give it like a year. We'll invite you to wedding."

"I don't think we have permission to invite people," Cas said.

"Mike and Luce definitely will," Gabe said.

"They damn well better," Dean said.

"Hey if you don't mind me asking," Gabe said. "Your family...you avoided talking about your mom. I won't pry or anything, I'm just curious."

Dean visibly tensed up at that, and Cas frowned over at Gabriel. It was Sam who answered though.

"A house fire," Sam said. "When we were little. She didn't make it."

"Oh god I'm sorry," Gabe said.

"S'ok," Sam said, reaching up with a hand to rest it on Gabe's cheek. "It was a while ago."

"If she was still around," Dean said quietly. "She'd let us move to see you."

"Dean you're an adult," Sam said.

"You're not and I'm not leaving you behind," Dean said.

"Can't you just get custody or something?" Gabe asked.

"Not really without a reason," Dean said. "Dad hasn't actually done anything bad. He's just a bit homophobic. He means well. But because of that I have no valid reason to take Sam. I don't think running off to see your boyfriend from a summer camp counts."

"It totally should," Gabe said and Sam agreed.

"We could all just go to the same college," Cas said. "Find one that has all our courses. Then we'd meet up inevitably."

"Because we'll be able to do that in the time before we leave," Gabe said sarcastically. "When we all don't even know what we're doing."

Cas sighed, and they fell into silence again. Sam yawned, and Gabe moved so that he was lying on the bed beside Sam, and Sam automatically curled against his side.

"I agree with Sam's yawn," Dean said, also noticing the way Cas's eyes were drooping. "Time to sleep." He moved and got into the bed, Cas doing the same."

"Yeah okay," Gabe said. "We're all in the beds and lying down. Now who's going to turn off the light?"

There was silence for a moment.

"Dammit fine," Dean said, getting up to turn the light off. "Bitches."

"Jerk," Sam replied sleepily on instinct. Gabe chuckled lightly and put his arms around Sam.

"Goodnight guys," Gabe said.

"Night Gabe," Sam said quietly. "Night Destiel."

"Night bitches," Dean said. "And Cas."

"Goodnight people I'm questioning my friendship with," Cas said and laughed as Dean punched him lightly on the shoulder.

It was their last goodnight for a long time, longer than what they were expecting.

Wow I wrote this chapter in record time. Over 2000 words in under an hour. While I'm sick. Huh. :P Logic.

One chapter left guys :P So I drew, or started drawing, this thing of Cas, and he's gonna have black angel wings in it, and it actually looks like him, and maybe I'll show you guys after I finish his face so he's not just a trenchcoat and a tie.

I have three and a half weeks left of school. And then a week of work experience. But that's not actually that long when you think about it :D

I just want to binge watch shows but exam study and homework...gah *Gives everyone time to binge watch shows*
