14 - Lost in the Forest
Week 2/4, Day 14 - Sunday
"And today," Michael said.
"You're all going to die," Luci finished.
"What no," Michael said. "You're just going to be in danger if you do something stupid."
"Mikey they're all idiots, they're gonna die."
"Oh come on."
"Don't worry, I'll look after them in hell."
Michael just shook his head.
Everyone on the camp of ships because Luce couldn't decide on a name, was now standing in front of the forest. Because someone had a genius idea of a scavenger hunt. In the forest.
"Look, you'll all be fine," Michael said. "We may have over exaggerated all the times we said you would die in there."
"No, we really didn't," Luce said. Michael glared at him.
"All you have to do, is go find the things on the list," Michael said. "Bring them back. First people back get a prize."
"And everyone else dies."
"Seriously."
"Shut up, you love me."
"Yeah I do."
It was silent for a minute as Michael and Lucifer did a Destiel and stared into each others eyes. Gabe cleared his throat.
"So are we going then?" he asked.
"What?" Michael said, looking away from Luce. "Yeah, you go. Work in partners. We'll be here...waiting."
"Yes, waiting," Luci said, smirking.
"Oh god let's get out of here," Gabe said, grabbing Sam's arm and starting to drag him into the forest.
"I guess that leaves me with you," Dean said to Cas. Although with the recent things between them he had no idea how this was going to turn out.
"Yeah," Cas said, and his slight hesitation probably meant he was thinking the same thing.
"Okay then," Dean said. "Let's go..."
"Yep," Cas said.
But just for a short amount of time, let's stay with Mike and Luci shall we?
The two of them waited until everyone was gone, and then Luce turned to Michael.
"So," he said. "Waiting."
"Yeah," Michael said. "Waiting. Not anything else at all."
Luce just smirked and moved close to Michael, leaning down to kiss him softly. Michael leaned into the kiss, wrapping his arms around Luci's neck and pulling him close.
Luce pulled away after a moment, a genuine smile on his face. "You said you love me."
"Yep," Michael said with a smile. "I do. I love you. I've said it before."
"I know but I like hearing you say it."
"Who ever knew Satan would be such a softy?"
"Did you just...you just made a Satan joke, I'm so proud of you."
Michael laughed and leaned up to kiss Luci again.
Okay that's enough Michifer for now, otherwise this is gonna be hella long.
So now to Sabriel we go.
"Well that was easy," Gabe said.
"I don't think it was supposed to be hard," Sam said, looking at the things they had collected. They'd been given a map which was helpful.
"Now, we could go back and walk in on Mike and Luce making out," Gabe said. "Or we could go mess with other people."
"I like the second option better."
"Me too. To Balthazar we go."
They walked back to where one of the things on the hunt had been, and waited until Balthazar and Crowley came along.
"My god, overload of Britishness," Gabe said. They were hiding behind a tree watching the two British guys. "Now, what shall we do?"
"Another spider?"
"Hmm...maybe." Gabe suddenly got a sparkle in his eye. "I just had an idea but we'll save that for Cassie and Dean."
"Sounds promising," Sam said.
"Okay, Sammy pick up that tarantula over there."
"What?!"
"You heard me." Gabe was just smirking as Sam glared and went to pick up the convenient spider.
"What do I do with it?" Sam asked. He glanced over to where Balthazar and Crowley were trying to read the map.
Gabe suddenly climbed into a tree beside them. "Pass him here." Sam gladly gave the spider to Gabe, who walked across the branches until he was on one above the two's heads. Then he smirked and dropped the spider on them.
It landed on the map they were looking at, and they froze for a second. Then Crowley made the most highest pitched inhumane sound and threw the map. Balthazar ran and scrambled up a tree while Crowley just ran off.
Gabe jumped out of the tree, laughing his head off. Sam came out from hiding too, chuckling.
"You bloody idiot," Balthazar said from his tree. "Thought you'd be too occupied with your little 'friend' there to prank us."
"What do you mean, 'friend'?" Gabe asked, narrowing his eyes. "Why the inverted commas?"
"You know why," Balthazar said, jumping out of the tree while keeping an eye on the spider. Then he walked off in the direction of Crowley, grabbing the map as he went.
"Now," Gabe said. "Let's find Cassie and Dean."
"What are we going to do?"
"Something that should nudge things along a bit."
So let's go to Destiel then.
(Oh my god the sunset looks so cool here, it's all orange and cloudy)
"Okay," Dean said. "We need to go this way. No, that way."
"Can't you read a map?" Cas said.
"Of course I can, shut up," Dean replied.
"We're lost, aren't we?"
"Nope. I just need to figure out where we are."
"Deano, Cassie!"
They both turned to see Gabe and Sam walking up to them. Cas saw the evil glint in Gabe's eye and was immediately cautious.
"How are you guys doing?" Gabe said. "Still alive? Not lost?"
"We're doing fine," Cas said, glaring at Gabe. "You?"
"Oo Cassie, you can tell when I want to prank someone. You know what I'm about to do, don't you?"
"What?" Dean said.
"You're unpredictable," Cas said.
"Oh but you can always tell right when I'm about to start doing something," Gabe said, smirking. "So there would really be no point in me trying to do anything."
"Of course not."
"And that my dear Cassie, is why I'm not going to do anything. Later."
With that, Gabe walked away. Sam however, was already gone.
"What just happened?" Dean asked.
"Gabe was going to prank us..." Cas said slowly. "But, he didn't?"
"..."
"Dean?"
"...Sam did."
"What?"
"We were talking to Gabe, Sam stole the map."
"What?!"
"We're lost."
Cas groaned. "Okay, we're actually going to die today."
"No, we won't," Dean said. "I'll get us out of here, I promise."
"We're already lost," Cas said. "How are we going to find our way back?"
"I don't know, but we will. Maybe if we walk in the direction Sam and Gabe went?"
"I guess that might work."
And so they walked. What they didn't know was Sam and Gabe knew they would try to follow them and walked in the direction away from the camp, only to double back later.
They walked for ages, and saw nothing that looked even remotely familiar. Dean didn't say anything, but Cas could see as he gradually got more and more worried.
By the time they admitted that they were lost, the sun was setting, all orange and cloudy just like the sunset I'm watching now ^_^
"I'm sorry Cas," Dean said. "We're lost."
Cas sighed and collapsed on the ground, leaning against a tree. "Well then what do we do?"
"We should probably wait for someone to find us," Dean said, sitting beside Cas. "It's all we can do, really."
"It's going to be night soon," Cas muttered. "It won't be safe. We don't know what's out here."
Dean thought for a second. "We'll sit in a tree, it'll be safer."
"And harder for people to find us."
"If anyone comes anywhere near us, we'll get out of the tree."
"Fine."
Dean climbed up into the tree they were next to, finding a good branch that he could sit on. Cas climbed up and sat beside him, looking down warily.
"We'll be fine Cas," Dean said, putting a hand on Cas's shoulder.
"How can you say that?" Cas asked. "We're lost in a forest where people have literally died. Lucifer wasn't lying about that."
"How do you kn—nevermind."
"Yeah. I can tell. We could die here Dean."
"But we won't," Dean said, determination in his voice. "I promise you, we'll get out of here alive."
"How?"
"I don't know bu—"
"You don't know. We'll die."
"Come on Cas, at least try to be optimistic."
"How Dean?"
Dean sighed. "I don't know, but it's sure as hell better than being miserable about all this."
Cas looked down. "I'm going to skin Gabriel alive when we get back."
"I'll help."
"Even though it technically was Sam."
"Then we'll skin him too."
"You'll actually do that?"
"Yeah, he took the damn map."
"Only because of Gabe's genius idea to get us together by making us get lost here."
"What."
Cas sighed. "I could tell. That was Gabriel's plan."
Dean just stared at Cas for a few moments. "Why is he trying to get us together?"
"He ships us."
"Yeah well I ship him and Sam but I ain't trying to kill them."
Cas smiled softly. "You're not as protective of Sam as you were at the start of this."
Dean stopped for a moment. "Well...yeah I guess. I mean, he's always with Gabriel now, Gabriel looks after him...so he doesn't really need me."
"He'll always need you," Cas said.
"But he doesn't need me to protect him," Dean said. "That's Gabe's job now."
"So you've accepted their relationship that doesn't actually exist yet?"
"Oh it will, I'd say in the next chapter or two."
Cas smiled softly at Dean and Dean smiled back.
They sat in silence for a while as the forest got dark and the sun fell below the horizon. Stars began to appear in the sky and the night sounds of a forest started. It got cold too, the icy wind brushing against them.
Cas shivered, rubbing his arms from the cold. Dean glanced over at him and took off his own leather jacket, passing it to Cas.
"Dean, you'll get cold," Cas said.
"And you're already cold," Dean said.
"No, I don't want you to get sick out of this."
"Cas, take the damn jacket."
"No."
Dean just sighed, and scooted over on the branch, close to Cas. He put half the jacket around him, and the other half around Cas.
"There," he said, the side of his body pressing against Cas's. "Now we're both warm." Cas made a small sound of comfort, leaning against Dean. Dean smiled and put an arm around Cas.
They didn't know how much time passed after that, but it had been night for several hours. Cas had dozed off, and Dean had stayed awake to watch over his little angel.
Cas woke again at some point, as the sound of a howl echoed through the forest. He looked at Dean with wide eyes.
"Hey it's okay," Dean said. "It's probably just a wolf. It can't get to us in the tree."
"Okay," Cas said, his voice small. He was silent for a few moments. "Dean, you don't think we'll actually die out here do you?"
"No," Dean said. "We can't. I won't leave Sammy. He's already lost..." Cas turned to face Dean fully.
"You don't have to say anything."
"Nah, may as well tell you, it'll pass the time. Our mom, she...when we were young there was a fire and...she didn't make it."
"Oh Dean I'm sorry."
"It's okay Cas, really. But Sam's already lost one family member, I'm not letting him lose another. I'll come back from the dead if I have to, but I'm not leaving him."
Cas smiled at him. "And you'll bring me with you?"
"Of course," Dean said with a smile. "No way I'd leave you behind."
Cas leaned against Dean again. "I'm glad you're here. Anyone else and I'd be freaking out."
"Why?" Dean said. "Why me?"
"Because you're you."
"And? What's so special about me?"
Cas turned his head to look at Dean, their faces inches apart. "Because...well, I guess I kinda like you Dean."
"As in..."
"Yeah."
Dean didn't say anything, and Cas looked away.
"Look," Cas said. "You know I can tell how people feel. And I know that there's some sort of degree of feelings for me in that head of yours. But you're confused, I get it, so I'm fine with jus—"
Dean cut him off by turning Cas's head back towards him and pressing a kiss to his lips. Cas's eyes went wide before he closed them and kissed Dean back softly.
"Just because someone is confused Cas," Dean said as he pulled away. "Doesn't mean you should give up. Some people need a push to get past the confusion, so you shouldn't just leave it."
"Gabriel said the same thing," Cas said, his eyes still wide. "Dean, you.."
Dean just smiled and kissed Cas again, one hand cupping his cheek while the other rested at his hip. Cas kissed back, getting over the initial shock of what was happening.
"So," Cas said when they pulled away. "What does this make us?"
"Well," Dean said with a smile. "Castiel Novak, will you be my boyfriend?"
"Yes," Cas said, smiling widely.
"Good, or that would've been awkward."
Cas laughed slightly. "So I take it you don't think you're straight anymore?"
"Nah, I think I'll settle at bi."
"Gabriel may throw rainbow glitter at you."
Dean laughed. "Fine, I'll accept the rainbow." Cas smiled up at him, and leaned against him again.
And at that moment, they heard voices calling in the distance, getting closer quickly.
"Dammit Gabriel, I'm fine with anyone else dying but he's my brother."
"Well I'm sorry I was trying to get my ship together. Like you haven't tried too."
"I didn't kill them while doing so."
"Hey guys," Dean said, jumping down from the tree and landing in front of Gabe and Luce.
"Oh thank Satan," Luce muttered.
"Don't thank yourself," Gabe said. "You did nothing." Cas jumped down from the tree too. "You okay Cassie?"
"Yep," Cas said cheerfully. Gabe gave him a confused look while Dean just chuckled. Cas walked over to Dean and linked their hands, watching Gabe's and Luci's reactions.
"Hah my plan worked," Gabe said. "Take that Satan."
"Oh shut up," Luci said. "It's about time though. I mean, we're like halfway through the camp already."
"Nope we do not need those feels yet," Dean said. "So can we please go back now?"
~~
They were back at the cabin, where Sam had been waiting worriedly. When they walked in, Sam had jumped up and pulled Dean into a tight hug, tears shining in his eyes.
"I'm sorry Dean," he said. "I didn't think that would happen."
"Don't worry," Dean said with a smile. "We're fine, really. Besides, good came out of this."
"What good?"
Dean glanced over at Cas with a smile. Sam picked up on what he meant and smiled.
"About time."
"Oh shut up, bitch."
"Jerk."
Dean laughed and walked over to Cas.
Sometime after that, they all went to sleep because they still had half a night left. And maybe, just maybe, Cas moved over to Dean's bed and snuggled into Dean's chest, and maybe Dean wrapped his arms around him and kissed his forehead as he went to sleep.
