"This is a dumb way to make money," Bucky griped, and Steve elbowed him playfully. It wasn't as if there were many options for a seventeen and eighteen-year old, especially in their day and age.

"Hey, it beats having to babysit."

Bucky scoffed his agreement. The Cooper twins were a handful; he remembered watching them last year with Steve and both coming away a little worse for wear -- the Cooper twins were not very nice.

Steve dug into the snow with the shovel and pouted over at Bucky until his friend begrudgingly began to help.

Bucky loathed the cold, so every so often he would stop to complain to Steve, who simply listened and kept shovelling. After a while Bucky just gave up and committed, throwing himself into the work so it could get done quicker.

It started to snow as they finished up, lightly sprinkling the dark pavement. Bucky scoffed up at the sky.

"Ruinin' our hard work," he griped, suddenly flushing warm as Steve grabbed his hands with a grin.

"Coulda' been worse, Buck." He smiled. "Come on, mom bought hot chocolate."

It was eighty years later when they had to shovel the snow again in drastically different circumstances. For one, it took them less than an hour because they no longer tired they way they used to; they didn't get nearly as cold as before.

But Bucky still got that warm rush when Steve grabbed his hands, rubbing them to keep him warm. He smiled at him the same way, eyes bright and kind, and Bucky had to smile back.

"Hot chocolate?"

"Lead the way," Steve hummed, following him in from the cold.

This was much nicer, Bucky concluded as he sat idly against the couch on the floor. Steve sat above him, gently stroking his hair while they watched Rudolph for the first time. Bucky compared Steve to Hermey; Steve did not care for that.

"He's blond and cute," Bucky insisted, looking up at him with raised eyebrows.

"Does that make you the lumberjack?"

Bucky crossed his arms. "I'm a big scary man, I'll take it."

Steve smiled and continued playing with his hair.
