Scarves

Reversal au! Set in modern times but with tiny Bucky :)

"Don't you think this is a little... excessive?" Bucky spoke muffled through the pile of scarves he was steadily digging himself free of at the same rate Steve dumped the scarves on his tinier frame.

"It's minus 15 out there today, Buck," Steve said as he wrapped the final scarf around his shoulders. Bucky huffed and squinted up at him, pulling a scarf away from his lips.

"I'm gonna be fine, Steve," he scoffed through scarf. Standing, he brushed the excessive scarves off of himself while Steve eyed him worriedly.

"Fine," he relented as he pulled his own jacket on. "It's just this is going to take a long time, Tony's press conferences take twenty years to get through."

Bucky snorted. Ever since he'd taken the role of Captain America and had lost what he made him such -- his strength, apparently, was his only power -- Tony had taken to treating him a little differently, more like a child than his friend and teammate.

"I'll wear this one," he said pointedly, and Steve nodded. "Sooner we're there, the sooner it's over."

Bucky was freezing and pretending not to be -- Steve saw it in the way he casually rubbed his neck, rolled his head as if stretching it. Held his hands clutched together on the table, trying to look like he was listening intently to what Tony was blathering on about.

Wordlessly, Steve quietly handed him a pair of mittens under the table. Bucky glanced at him briefly, then eyed the reporters, still clicking away. Steve made it as if he hadn't just given him the mittens so Bucky sighed and pulled them over his trembling hands.

After the press conference, Bucky pulled Steve behind the massive screen projecting Tony's face and business so they were away from any lingering reporters.

"You were cold," Steve explained before Bucky could get a word in about the potential embarrassment about getting found out to be with him -- a former Winter Soldier. "No way I'm letting you freeze."

Bucky sighed reluctantly and looked into his worried face; he took his hands, partially for comfort and partially because he was still unbelievably chilly.

"Thank you, Steve. But I can get by on my own."

Steve's gaze softened. "Thing is," he murmured, squeezing his hands, "you don't have to."

Bucky paused at that, and smiled gently. He stroked his thumb absently over Steve's rough knuckles, then brought his hand up to press a gentle kiss there.

Steve blushed at the motion, looking so incredibly gentle -- so much more different than his typical scary Winter Soldier demeanor.

"I love you, Buck."

Bucky grinned, cocked his head. "I love you too."

Again, my brain goes dumb when the only prompt is like. An inanimate object.
