||Chapter One: Home||
Tired and Bored
We Move Forward
To find something just beyond the Board

It hadn't been much, but, you were sure it was to be just fine.
Your fingers had curled tightly, clamping themselves securely around the worn and tearing leather strap of your bag, crawling up into the moving van seat. It took hours just to pack and quickly struggle with putting heavy objects into the back, the bumper just barely scraping the surface of the driveway from the sheer weight. With a heavy sigh, your mother came round' to the front seat, patting out the dust from her shoulders, thighs, and hands.
"Woo! Alrighty," She hummed, popping her rump into the seat.
"GAH! Oh geez, hot, hot!" She cried suddenly, jerking upwards and arching her back, avoiding her rumps contact with the boiling, gray leather seats. You resisted a small snicker in amusement, biting it back with much resistance.
"Are you okay mom? I should have told you, the sun is extra bright today." You grinned, wriggling out of your cursed backpack straps and placing it on the floor at your feet. With narrowed eyes, your mother scoffed.
"Ah shucks. Never knew the weather forecast could be so late on the job." She sneered, sticking out a playful tongue in your direction, slipping her red flannel from her shoulders and placing it over the scolding seat.
You cut in a dramatic gasp.
"How dare! I take my job very seriously, thank you very much!" You said in exasperation, slapping a hand to your chest and sticking your nose into the air with a look of pure disgust. Your mother simply snorted.
"Sure pumpkin, Sure." She hummed, sticking the keys into the ignition. With a gentle turn and hold, the engine sputtered, before uttering alive, humming in approval to be ready to go. Your mother's smile grew ever so wider, clapping her hands together in delight.
"EEEE!~" She squealed, taking hold of the wheel.
"Can you believe it?! Five years, and we finally did it!" She beamed, glimmering eyes darting between you and your fathers silver car that revved to life. Pulling out from the driveway, your mother rolled down her window, peering out to your father.
"Ready to get the show on the road, honey?" He called, a playful grin held proudly on his face. Just from your view, you were drawn to the violent movement in the backseat.
There seated, practically vibrating, were your siblings; waving furiously from the backseat, grins just as big as the sparkles in their eyes, they called and squealed, as if the freakout would voice how excited they were.
It was no doubt.
It had been so long in such a cruddy apartment, that everyone was excited to go anywhere than that same place.
"Ready as I'll ever be!" She called back, her tone high and chipper, barely sufficing her giggle. With a kiss blowing and a quick wave from either lover, both engines revved, and he began to take his lead off down the road of hours upon hours.
With a bump and a horrific screech of the bumper, your mother pulled free of the moss growing driveway and onto the tar-black road, following suite on the tail of your father's car.
"Here we go!"

||SEPTEMBER 1ST, SUNDAY||

Tired.
So very, very tired.
You had been used to staying up all night through to 4 AM or so, but, in your current state just sitting in the car was enough as a lulling rhythm. Shifting here and there, too and fro in your seat, you had deemed it long ago that you would never get comfortable. Side glancing to your mother, she didn't look all that hot either. She had been driving nearly non-stop for the whole 5 hours and 16 minutes, pushing on in hope to get to the house soon.
You frowned. She looked so tired.
You would have taken over to drive, which you had earlier during a traffic jam at 9, but she simply turned you down, saying that it was illegal. She wasn't wrong, no, but, it just gave you the feeling of uselessness being incapable of helping her out.
Finally, after a good 10 more minutes, she gasped, her eyes bringing back the same glittering glow it had earlier that afternoon. You were half dozing by the time the tires began to crunch and jump over an uneven road. Or better yet a driveway you weren't paying much attention to when your mother perked up in her seat. Quickly, she started smacking and patting your shoulder, calling your name with a squeal.
"Look! We're here! We're here!" She shrieked, bouncing up and down in her seat, startling you back into reality. With wide eyes, you peered forward through the front windshield, hanging off the edge of your seat. Your jaw had dropped.
It was an old farmhouse!
Huge by the look of it! It may have been the looming shadows cast by the moonlight, but, it looked amazing nonetheless. Your mother parked, the engine hissing and grumbling in exhaustion and overheating as she let it put itself to sleep, pulling free the keys.
Both of you scrambled from your seats, hastily unbuckling your seatbelts and stumbling out onto the crunching gravel below the soles of your shoes. Your eyes never left the house, staring up in pure awe.
This was home now.
And you LOVED IT.
