chapter 11(You'd Think They Wouldn't Try This Hard)
Peter had decided to go out as Spiderman after Mr. Stark's surprise visit. He felt himself relax as he swung through the air. He smiled. He wished he could take off the mask so that he could feel the wind against his face, tugging at his hair. He'd done that a few nights. But right now it was still light out and he would be risking someone figuring out his identity. He settled on a rooftop, leaning on a billboard and just gazing out at his city. It looked beautiful from up here, where the chaos and the noise blended into the background and the trash in the streets was to small to notice. Up here, the buildings gleamed in the sun, reflecting the light in a million direction, casting rainbows in certain areas. He could stay up here forever.
Peter felt his Spider sense tingle slightly. He wasn't in danger yet, but there could be trouble. He closed his eyes hoping it would go away. RAAJA spoke in his ear.
"Avengers have been spotted in the surrounding area. I advise we prepare to defend ourselves."
"The Avengers?" He had forgotten, for a wonderful moment, that they were after him. Or more specifically Spiderman. He sighed. "RAAJA, can you tell how close they are?"
"The one known as Hawkeye is on the building across the street. Black Widow and Captain America are coming up the stairs. Iron Man is coming in from the left and Thor from the right. Lastly Bruce Banner is on the building on our left."
"Thanks, RAAJA. Wait a second. How did you know exactly where they are?"
"You programmed me with hacking capabilities which I used to hack into the building and street cameras."
"Oh." Peter hadn't thought about that. He wished he had brought some of his homemade weapons but he still hadn't found an easy way to carry them on his person. He might have to design pockets into the suit, he still wasn't sure. "Alrighty then, let's see how they want to do this." Peter stepped slightly away from the billboard and crossed his arms. Judging by how only Iron Man was approaching he figured Stark might try to talk to him again. As if that had gone well last time.
"Hello there. I'd say it's ice to see you, but it's actually pretty warm out today and I'm honestly not that glad to see you."
"Spiderman" Stark started, landing on the roof of the building a few feet from the masked vigilante and blatantly ignoring him. "I assume you know why we're here?"
"Because you're judgmental hypocrites?"
"Excuse me!" Iron Man said places his hands on his hips. "We are not judgmental idiots. Well at least I'm not, not so sure about the rest."
"Well, you're trying to capture me without a valid enough reason. And the reason you do give is that I'm a vigilante. But the thing is, you started as a vigilante and the Avengers often get into a fight before receiving conformation that they have been approved to do so."
"Alright, that's it. Avengers attack!" Stark raised a palm and fired a beam at the red clad hero. Spiderman jumped up, flipping midair to doge the blast. He crouched down when Black Widow and Captain America surged onto the roof from the stairwell door and Thor landed on the roof with a thud.
"Black Widow, you're here too?" He rolled to his right as Cap threw his shield and sprang up back handspringing away as Black Widow attempted to shoot him. He was then forced to duck to avoid Thor's hammer. He spun catching the arrow Hawkeye had aimed at him. "Hawkeye!" he dodged an arrow that made a tiny explosion when it hit the roof. "That's so cool! Can I call you bird man? It's like Spiderman but with bird since a Hawk is a bird." Peter gasped while evading more attacks. "I know! I can call you Big Bird! You know, from Sesame Street? You don't mind that do you?" He dodged another flurry of arrows. "I'll take that as a yes, so Big Bird it is."
Initial attacks avoided. He stuck a web to Iron Man and swung him into Cap. He then threw a web grenade at Thor and followed that by shooting him with a taser web knocking the man unconscious. Peter found it surprisingly easy. Who knew the god of lightning could get tazed. (Seriously, shouldn't Thor be immune to electrocution? But according to Thor Ragnarök electrify can actually knock him out) As Cap and Iron Man got to their feet, Spiderman advanced on Black Widow ducking to avoid punches as he tried to get in some of his own. "You know I really admire you. You're a great fighter and the only female on the Avengers. You sort of remind me of a girl I knew." Peter said thinking of MJ. "Hey instead of fighting couldn't we just talk? You know, spider to spider? No?" She managed to land a kick to his side. He gasped for breath avoiding another attack. "Well that's rude. I'm just trying to make conversation."
"Shut up."
"Wow, tough crowd. Even the criminals endure my wit. Well at least for the most part. Then they try to shoot me." He finally managed to kick her legs out from under her but before he could web her to the ground he had to jump away to avoid being blasted by Iron Man. By the time he reoriented himself Black Widow had gotten back to her feet. "Seriously! I just knocked you down!" His spider sense tingled again and he turned in time to catch Cap's shield which he redirected to hit Iron Man. Peter instantly regretted it. He could have taken it home, had it as a souvenir. Studied it. But he supposed escape was more important.
Again he attacked Black Widow this time managing to web her to the ground by first webbing her feet and then pushing her over to encase the rest of her body. He chuckled. It looked like she was in a cocoon. He rolled away as Iron Man tried to blast him again. He turned and used his webbing to pull Iron Man back down since he had been hovering overhead. He swung him toward the billboard and quickly webbed him up using a web grenade. He tuned slinging a taser web at Cap who collapsed. He then preformed a series of complicated jumps and twists to avoid the volley of arrows the archer sent his way. He threw another web grenade attaching the archer to the roof he was crouched on. His spider sense tingled letting him know that Cap was starting to get up. He turned quickly webbing him to the roof. Peter finally stopped to breath. He had done it.
"Peter, I advise you rest. You're injured."
Peter frowned, looking down at himself and winced. With the adrenalin he hadn't noticed the hits the Avengers had managed to get in. He was pretty scraped up from the arrows and bullets that had nicked him. And there were a couple parts of his suit that were burnt. "Seriously guys?" He said towards the webbed Avengers. "Do you know how much of a pain it is to repair the suit? Have you no consideration for craftsmanship? You should be ashamed of yourselves. Now I want you all to consider what you've done. Meanwhile I have places to be. Sayonara." Peter turned about to jump off the roof when Iron Man spoke.
"We'll figure out who you are."
"Oh really?" Peter said crossing his arms, "And how will you do that?"
"JARVIS has already scanned your voice and height and you're obviously from around here. It won't be too hard to narrow down who you are"
Peter smirked under the mask. While there was nothing he could do about his height and where he lived his voice modulator should throw them off. Even still, this was Tony Stark, a genius, he would need to be careful not to reveal anything. "None of that will help you now though."
Tony lifted the faceplate and smirked, "It distracted you long enough. Now Hulk!"
Peter froze as he head the green giant roar and felt the rooftop tremble at Hulk's weight. He cursed himself. He had thought his Spidey sense was just because of the other Avengers nearby. How could he have been dumb enough to forget that their last member was waiting nearby. "RAAJA, why didn't you say anything?" he asked. He had started to depend on RAAJA watching his back so he wouldn't make any dumb mistakes.
"The cameras went blank after you started fighting and it would have been a bad idea to distract you during the fight. Then it appeared that we would be getting away."
Peter sighed, backing away and keeping his eyes on Hulk. He needed to get better at paying attention. Hulk roared and Peter winced, his enhanced hearing causing pain to flare up. "RAAJA, turn on the Hearing Systems." With a beep the roars of Hulk turned to a more manageable volume. Peter smiled, glad the new system worked. It was able to filter sounds. Making loud sounds slightly quieter without risking Peter missing any of the quieter sounds.
Hulk charged. Peter jumped up landing on Hulk's shoulders before flipping off and landing behind him. Hulk swung around trying to punch Peter. He dodged attempting a punch of his own. Hulk caught his fist and squeezed. Peter gritted his teeth as pain flared in his wrist. Hulk swung him up and then slammed him onto the rooftop. Peter screamed feeling his web shooter break and something in his wrist crack. Hulk had let go and Peter quickly stood up swaying slightly. He quickly threw several web grenades at Hulk's feet using his remaining web shooter. Hulk roared again swinging his arms at the vigilante and trying to dislodge his feet. The webbing started to tear and Peter quickly fired a few more web grenades.
He needed to get away. But it was hard to swing with only one web shooter. Of course, he could always use his natural webs. But that might reveal them to the Avengers and the less they knew about him the better. Hulk roared once more and Peter decided that if it meant escape he would use his natural webs if he needed to. He jumped off the building and swung away. He was only able to use his one web shooter for a few swings before resorting to using his natural webs on his other hand. He gritted his teeth as pain flared in his probably broken wrist. He watched were he was swinging. Even though he had the ability to shoot natural webbing from his wrists he couldn't shoot as far or as accurately as he could with the web shooters. That was why he had invented them. He was doing alright with his natural webs but he knew it could be better. The web shooters provided better aim and distance, as well as making it possible to use different web combinations, such as a web grenade or a taser web.
Peter sighed in relief as he made it back to the Web. He swung in through a window and quickly went over to the medical kit. "RAAJA, asses injury."
"Apart from your many scrapes, bruises, and cuts only your wrist appears to be injured along with some bruised ribs. Your ulna on your left wrist is cracked. If you wrap it up it should heal within a day. That is, if you don't move it."
Peter chuckled and thanked her. It was times like these that he was glad for his speed healing. He was glad the bone was just cracked and not shattered that would take some medical attention to align before it could heal. Then he would have had to get help from Daredevil. He had met the vigilante two years ago when he was just starting the hero business. Even before the older vigilante knew Peter's identity he had still liked to scold Peter every time he came to ask for medical help. Not that the other vigilante was any better at avoiding injury. Peter could still remember when Daredevil found out about his identity.

It had been a quiet night when Peter saw the flames in the distance. He had headed in their direction to find an apartment building on fire. Peter hadn't taken long to swing himself through one of the windows and start searching for people. He had gotten a few out and had gone back in when part of the building collapsed. He had managed to escape and find refuge on a nearby rooftop before the building finished collapsing, but he knew he was to injured to treat his own wounds. So with reluctance, Peter called Daredevil with the number the older vigilante had entrusted to him. His comm was badly damaged and he was barely able to say where he was before it completely stopped working. He had lain there on the rooftop and just managed to see a figure dressed in red with horns on his head before he blacked out.
He had woken up to find himself lying on a couch. He was dressed in a pair of shorts and covered in bandages. With a start he realized he wasn't wearing a mask. He tried to sit up but a voice from the other side of the couch stopped him.
"I wouldn't do that. You're still recovering." A man with brown hair and wearing glasses came into view.
"Who are you?" Peter said starting to panic.
"Calm down, you're going to hurt yourself if you keep panicking. And you know who I am, you called me."
Peter froze remembering the fire, calling Daredevil, the vigilante standing over him before he passed out. "Daredevil?"
"The one and only. And you are Spiderman. I have to say you're a lot younger than I thought you were." Peter bit his lip. "Your voice also sounds different."
"I use a voice modulator." Peter said.
Daredevil hummed in response. "Can I ask how old you are?"
"Fifteen" Peter whispered.
"So you were fourteen when you started?" Peter nodded remembering when he had first met Daredevil and confessed that he had only started the hero gig.
"Where am I?"
"You're at my house. Your injuries were pretty bad so I had to take you back here to give you better medical attention. Sorry about the mask but the burns ascended up your neck to parts of parts of your face. I needed to treat the burns there and make sure nothing else was injured."
"It's okay." Peter said, still a bit hesitant. No one knew his identity and even though Daredevil didn't know his name he had seen his face.
"My name's Matt Murdock." Peter jerked his head up to look at him, his face clearly showing his surprise. "We've partnered up before and helped each other on several occasions, I believe I can trust you with my name." Peter gaped. Helping other vigilantes was one thing, trusting each other with secret identities was another. Even if vigilantes trusted each other one could never be sure that a name wouldn't slip out, either accidentally or under torture. To trust someone with your name was to trust them with not only your safety but those of your family and friends. And in that moment Peter made a decision. If this man, who had been almost a mentor to him, helping him cope with sensory overload, with injuries, and even training him on occasion, if this man could trust him, than Peter could trust him too.
"My names Peter, Peter Parker." Matt smiled.
"Nice to meet you Peter."

After that they had continued helping each other out, and Peter more than appreciated that Matt didn't treat him any differently after finding out his age. If only the Avengers would be of a similar mind set. But somehow, Peter doubted it.
Thanks for reading. Sorry it's a little late. Homework has been a nuisance.
