4. Surge
Crime never changes, just like war. It is all about one man who thinks he is better than everyone else. In this case a bad guy. This person won't stop till he gets what he wants and then it is up to one person to stop him. In this case a Superhero or 'vigilante'
Jess had moved into the busy streets of New York about a month ago and she was really starting to like New York. Yes it is colder than Malibu but she had gotten used to it. The Parker's were like a second family to her and Peter had become her best friend. Her dad seemed to have forgotten about her. Jess sometimes saw him on the TV or in a newspaper but nothing more. Pepper often came to visit her to see how she was doing though. Actually Pepper was coming over right now. JARVIS was keeping an eye on her so that when she arrived Jess would be home on time.
Jess was ripped from her thoughts by a siren going off in the city. How could she hear that you ask, well she was sitting on one of the buildings in New York. Jess was what you call a superhero.
When her powers had made their appearance at the age of 5 she was terrified. Her curly brown hair slowly turned into straight grayish hair. She made it work of course, coloring it from time to time, like now. A 5 year old colouring her hair and no one seemed to care how she did it. Pepper questioned it but she was reassured by a simple lie. Her powers however gave Jess a lot more trouble. She started to eat more and bump into walls when she couldn't control her speed. But over the years Jess had learned to control her powers and learned they could actually be very useful so when one day a woman was being robbed she helped her and became Malibu's first superhero. Surge.
Jess watched the police cars race past her building before she stood up from her crouching position. Taking her dark goggles out of her pocked, she placed them on her face before jumping of the building.
She arrived just in time to see some idiot holding a machine gun against the temple of a young girl. He shouting at the police to stand down. The police were surrounding him but it didn't help much.
Jess exhaled before she took off towards the nearest police car. The police men who was standing next to the car noticed her and pointed his gun at her. "Put your hands up and stand still."
Jess raised an eyebrow and turned her head towards him. "What do you want me to do? Put my hands up or stand still because I can't do both." She smirked. The officer looked like an goldfish before he lowered his gun. She smirked as she jumped of the car. She gave the officer a pat on the shoulder before she walked closer to the criminal. He pressed the gun more firmer at the girl temple making her yelp. Salty tears were streaming down her cheeks.
"Stay back or I- I'll shoot" The idiot warned her as she took another step closer. She raised her hands showing she meant no harm. She wasn't even wearing any weapons, not like she needed them.
"Look I just want to talk to you"
"It's Surge!!!" A voice shouted from the crowd. More voices filled the air as Jess stopped, only meters away from the criminal. Surge, the crime fighting hero that saved the day.
No one knew it was her of course. Her goggles hiding her true identity. Her outfit had changed into an pair of black sneakers, a silver jacked with a black t-shirt underneath it and an pair of black trousers underneath it. Her pink hair was pulled in a tight ponytail. One more thing about her goggles, they couldn't be taken off by anyone, only by herself.
"One more step, girly" The criminal threatened.
"Let her go and nothing will happen to you" Surge said, honesty in her words. The criminal scoffed and pressed the gun even firmer against the girls temple. The girl gave a yelp causing Surge to glare at the man. The glare was gone before anyone could notice. Jess took a step back but a smirk formed on her face.
"Alright, alright I'll go." She turned on her heel causing the crowd to gasp. "But before I go..." She turned back around and ran towards the criminal. Everything was a blur after that. The criminal released the girl and tried shooting Surge but she ran to fast. They just saw was a pinkish blur. She however saw everything in slow motion. Seconds later it just stopped. The criminal sat on the ground, his wrists bound behind his back and the girl out of his reach. She was standing in front of a woman in the crowd who Surge had assumed was her mother. Jess or Surge was standing on her original place twirling the gun in between her fingers. It took a couple of seconds before the cheers began again, even louder than before.
Jess smirked and turned around, walking towards the officer behind her. It was the chief of the police. Captain Stacy. She had met him a month ago when she resumed her Surge business. She also knew his daughter Gwen. They had some of the same lessons.
She handed him the gun ad received a nod in return. When she was still in Malibu she helped the police and they trusted but now that she was in New York she had to start all over again. She had always been the Superhero of California but now she had to build their trust to become the New York superhero.
She gave mister Stacy a salute before she turned around to see the criminal being taken away by the police. She gave them a salute before she ran up the building with some help of her special designed shoes.
Jess finally came to a stop when she reached the top of the second building. Her hair whipped around her face as she smiled at the never sleeping city.
"Miss?" She heard in her ear piece. She raised her finger and gently pressed it.
"Yeeeees?" She strolled to the other end of the roof and looked down, wondering how high must be.
"I must inform you that Miss Potts will arrive in mere seconds" Jess nodded taking a step away from the edge.
"Be there in a sec" Giving the city one last glance she ran back home.
