19. A giant what?

Jess and Peter sat on the bleachers. The school team was practicing their football behind them. Peter grinned and showed Jess the dead spider that had bitten him. Jess stared at it in awe.

"It's beautiful" Peter smiled.

"It had a bite though." He watched as Jess twirled the spider in between her fingers. "Does this scare you?" Jess looked away and shook her head.

"No" She smiled and handed him the spider back. "Who knows?"

"Just you" Jess stared at him.

"Really?" He nodded. "What was that thing, on the bridge" Peter looked up.

"Something not human." Jess smirked.

"We're not human" This did make Peter smile again. "If we hadn't been there last night, those people would have died. That thing would have killed them" Peter nodded.

"So, we'll go after it" He smiled shyly. Jess looked up and nodded.  "I really liked kissing you." Peter suddenly injected. "And you're an amazing kisser." He looked down at his hands. Jess bit her lip and nodded.

"Well, you know, it was good for me too" Peter looked up, nearly glad to hear it and slowly moved closer. Jess did the same and the precise moment their lips touched a football was thrown at them. Peter caught it though but it did ruin their moment. He threw it back but against the pole. He frowned. There was a gush of wind next to him before Jess was back, a smirk on her lips and the ball in her hands. She handed it to him.

"Try again" he smirked and threw the ball behind him and kissed her.

The same day Jess decided she wanted to go see Doctor Connors to see if he knew something about the new reptile thing. She stepped into his office to find it surprisingly empty, the whole floor was deserted. She frowned and stepped towards the desk, seeing a strange syringe like item. She gently took it and turned it, seeing it was nearly empty.

"It's not nice to snoop." Jess froze and turned around. There stood Doctor Connors, looking tired but with fire in him. "I gave everyone the week off." Jess nodded and placed the syringe back down. "Shouldn't you be at school?"

Jess nodded and leaned against the desk. "I had a second off." Doctor Connors smiled. "I wanted to ask you a question. How would a predator track a reptile?"

"Oh, they don't." He walked past the desk and took a couple of files from it. "Most reptiles are at the top of their respective food chain, kings of their domain." Jess frowned.

"But they gotta have vulnerabilities, right?"

"Why the sudden interest in the cold blooded?"

"Well, I figured I didn't know a lot about biology, except some things about genes and I thought why not change that." She lied smoothly. "Isn't it because of their cold blood that they would react to sudden changes in temperature?" Doctor Connors turned to her, a dangerous look in his eyes.

"You'd have to catch one first." Jess blinked and Doctor Connors took a step forwards. "Did you know there's a rumor of a new species in New York? Beautiful and quite large."  Jess nodded.

"And very dangerous. Have you seen it?" Jess tried, a new look in her eyes as well. Doctor Connors stopped and stared at her.

"Well, it's not yet classified. But it can be aggressive, if threatened." He turned away and Jess frowned.

"Doc, are you alright?" Doctor Connor's didn't turn around.

"Never been better, Jessica. Never been better. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to ask you to leave." Jess nodded and stepped out of the office. "I have a new project I'm working on and I need to be alone." Doctor Connors stepped out as well and walked past her.

"Don't worry, Miss. Stark. I'll be back." He stopped and turned back around. "Wonderful things are coming. Wonderful things." Jess watched him suspiciously as he left. Once the door closed Jess exhaled, ignored the gross noise coming from the other side of the room and walked out.

-

She quickly made it home and called Peter.

"Jess?"

"Yeah it's me."

"Did you find out anything about that thing?" Jess ran a hand trough her hand and placed her bag down on the floor.

"Its him Peter. Doctor Connor's is the lizard."

"The Lizard? You gave it a name?"

"Peter, that's not important. What important is, is that Doctor Connors is a danger to the city"

"I'm going after him" Jess shook her head, pacing trough the room.

"No, you stay home, with Aunt May. Tomorrow we'll think of a plan to catch him" Peter remained silent. "Please Peter" He sighed.

"Oke, I'll wait" Jess nodded and stopped at the window, staring at the city.

"Wanna grab some dinner tomorrow? I can order some Chinese and we can watch that movie with that man in spandex" She heard Peter laugh.

"Batman?  Sure"

"Alright, see you tomorrow"

"Bye"

-

The whole day Jess worked on her gloves. Her materials had arrived and she couldn't wait to start. She had just finished the wiring when her stomach grumbled and she decided to order Chinese. Oh an Pepper had decided to visit as well and she was very happy when she heard Jess had a boyfriend. She promised to keep it silent though.

Jess had just plopped down on her bed when there was a knock on the window. She looked up and smiled when she noticed Peter sitting behind the window.

"You should maybe consider coming in through the door, JARVIS won't bite you know" She laughed. "Pepper, my father's assistant, is here to check on me but don't worry, she'll stay out of our way." She turned around. Her eyes widen, seeing Peter nearly falling out of the window. "Peter, what happened?" He smiled sheepishly.

"You should see the other guy." Jess carefully supported him over to her bed and placed him down. He hissed but chuckled. "The other guy, in this instance, being a giant mutant lizard." Jess opened her mouth to respond when the voice of Pepper reached their ears.

"Hey, Jess. Honey, do you want some coco? JARVIS told me your blood sugar is low." Jess sped towards the door and opened it on a crack. "I still remember that you once told me that you wanted to live in a chocolate house." Jess groaned and Peter snickered.

"That's impractical." Pepper blinked, seeing Jess's head.

"Chocolate house?" Peter whispered. Jess stuck her head back inside the room and shot him a look. She quickly turned back to Pepper.

"Sorry, I'm just cranky" Pepper smiled and handed her the cup.

"Drink you coco" Jess smiled.

"Thank you Pepper"

"Don't mention it" Jess closed the door and placed the cup on her desk. Peter smiled at her but she sped away and came back with a first aid kit.

She carefully but skillful peeled the spandex of Peter's top away and started cleaning his wounds. Peter stared at her the whole time, feeling her soft hands against his torso send chills all over his body. He moved closer to her and placed his hand against her cheek. She looked up and met his eyes. Peter moved even closer, his lips gazing hers.

"Hold up bug boy" She whispered and moved away. Peter chuckled.

"What did you call me?" Jess shook her head, completely serious.

"I know what this is. Every day, for as long as I can remember, I do the same thing. Live a normal live and in the evening wiggle myself into my suit, not giving a shit about the people I care about or the consequences of my actions." Peter placed his hands on her cheeks again and Jess placed hers over his.

"I gotta stop him though. I have to, because I created him." Jess frowned.

"What do you mean?" Peter groaned and sat up. "I gave him an equation that made all of this possible. Something my father had been working on, secretly. Now I realize why he kept it a secret. Jess, this is my responsibility. I have to fix it." They stared at each other for a second before Peter grinned.

"What?" Jess whispered.

Peter shook his head with a huge smile on his lips and Jess was beyond curious of what he was thinking. Jess smiled as well and resumed her task of cleaning his wounds.

-

"Here" Peter closed his locker and turned around. There stood Jess, a small package in her hands that she held out for him. Peter frowned but took it. He held it to his ear and shook it. Jess chuckled. Peter opened it, his eyes wide. "I assumed that Connor's broke your old one" Peter carefully took it out of the box, examining the camera. It looked old but he could see all the advanced technology inside it. "I build it around one of my old camera's. I hope you like it" Peter stared at it in shock before he shook his head.

"I can't take this" He tried handing it back but Jess smirked and stepped out of his grasp. He smirked and stepped towards her but froze just as Jess as a large explosion sounded. Peter quickly grabbed her.

"Go!" She shook her head. Students hurried past them and Jess quickly placed the camera back in her bag. There was a loud bang as the Lizard slammed trough the wall. He laid eyes on them and growled. The hallway now empty fell silent as the superhero's and villain stared at each other.

Peter got into a stance and ran towards the Lizard. He slid underneath him and pulled him down, using his webbing. Peter jumped on his back and tried to knock him out but the Lizard grabbed him and slammed him against the lockers. Jess, having seen enough sped towards them and punched the Lizard, full speed. He staggered back but threw Peter away, straight trough the wall.

"Peter!" While distracted the Lizard grabbed Jess and threw her after Peter, growling loudly. Jess landed with a grunt not far from Peter. The Lizard charged at them and placed his foot on Peter's arm. Peter tried kicking him but the Lizard grabbed his legs. Jess blinked and slowly got up. Her vision focused and she noticed Peter trying to get his bag. She sped towards it and threw it at him. He caught it but was thrown through another wall.

The lizard roared and turned to Jess. She blinked and started running back and forth, avoiding his attacks. He even tried throwing chemicals at her. Finally one hit her foot and she shot against a wall. She hissed but managed to crawl behind a desk.

"No where to hide." He taunted and moved closer. There was a tud and Jess moved to look back at him. Peter was purged on top of him, dressed in a full Spiderman costume.

"You're not thinkin' straight, doc! Stop this! This isn't you!" They fought out of the room. Jess finally looked up from the desk. Seeing no one she used the desk to stand up and stumbled towards the door. Apparently the chemical he had thrown at her was some kind of acid, burning her ankle. That's why she always wore her protection suit. She past the destroyed hallway and found Peter and the Lizard fighting. She silently moved behind them and hit the Lizard over the head with a trophy. He turned to her and growled. Peter used this distraction to wrap him in webbing, just like a spider would do to his prey. When he was stuck Peter turned to Jess.

"I'm gonna throw you out the window now." Jess's eyes widen.

"What?" Peter took a hold of her and threw her out of the already destroyed window. Jess yelped and closed her eyes but found herself hanging from one of Peter's webs. When she finally managed to cut herself down she groaned as her foot hit the ground. A paramedic rushed over to her but she waved him off and took out her phone. She speed dialed Peter.

"Hey."

"Where are you?"

"I'm fine. I'm okay. Don't follow me. I'm tracking him. I gotta stop him before anyone gets hurt, but we need antidote. Do you know how to run a serum?" Jess thought for a moment before she shook her head.

"No but Gwen does."

"Okay. Great. Great. Great. Okay. Listen, I need her to go to OsCorp, I need her to access the cross-species file. It's a blue serum, vile, 1-2-3-8-9." Jess nodded.

"Okay, got it." She stopped the call and looked around her. She quickly spotted Gwen sitting on a bench, being checked by a paramedic. "Gwen!" Gwen looked up and hugged Jess.

"Thank god you are alright." Jess nodded and pulled away.

"I need your help."
