14. Beginning of the partnership
That same evening Jess was back in her suit. Her ribs were extremely itchy but she was on to Peter. She had chased him for a while but lost him when he reached parking lot. Her guess was that he was inside one of the cars. He had really taken his whole vigilante image seriously, he made himself a full body suit. Blue and Red spandex. He even had a device that could help him swing from building to building. Surge watched from the rooftops as a car thief broke into a car. He got into the car but instead of driving off the man got out of the car, trough the window. Than from another roof swung Peter down at the man. Jess sped down and hid behind a car. The man took out a small knife.
"Is that a knife?" Peter asked, pointing at it.
"Yes it's a real knife." The man nodded and Peter fell to his knees.
"My weakness, it's small knives." He pleaded. "Anything but knives!"He stood up again and shot something at the thief. Something sticky. The man was stuck to the wall.
"What the hell is this?" The thief asked, trying to get free.
"Webbing that I developed myself, I don't think you really want to know about it." Peter explained walking closer. He then started 'webbing' the thief. Surge grinned at this. Still the same Peter. When the thief was really stuck to the wall, Peter turned serious. He shot a web at the man's mouth and nose, choking him. He shot forwards and was about to punch him when Surge appeared behind him.
"Stop" She called, her voice changed by her vision. Peter froze and looked at her. He held up one finger before he turned back to the thief. "It's not him" Peter reached up and looked at the man's wrist. Seeing no star he cut the web on his nose, letting him breath. He stepped away from the thief before he turned to Surge.
"How did you know" he spoke in a threatening voice.
"I know who your after and I know a way to find him" Peter took a step towards her. Surge was ready to dodge if he would attack her.
"Why would you help me" Surge looked at him with sad eyes, which he of course couldn't see.
"Because I'm trying to make it up to you" She whispered. Of course that wasn't the whole truth. She wanted to find him too. He had caused so much sadness that he just couldn't walk away unpunished.
Peter stared at her trough his mask covered eyes. Maybe she was telling the truth.
Suddenly a policeman on a motorcycle drove into the parking lot. The two vigilante's turned to him.
"Boys in blue are here!" Peter beamed waving at him. Surge was just looking at the cop, not trusting him.
"Freeze! You two in tights, don't move!" The cup commanded pointing his gun at them.
"You serious?!" Peter glanced at Surge. She just shrugged, you never knew for sure if the police would help her or not.
"Who are you?!" The cop demanded. Peter raised his arms.
"No one seems to grasp the concept of the mask." The cop pointed his gun and shot. Not one bullet reached them because Surge sped past and took all of them. Peter looked at her, noticing none of the bullets were shot. She simply smirked and help up one of the bullets. He laughed from behind his mask and jumped over the cop, taking his gun and throwing It away.
"I just did 80% of your job! That's how you repay me?!" More cops arrived at the scene. "Alright, that was fun!" He joked and ran away. For some unknown reason he had taken Surge's hand and dragged her with him. She didn't question him though. They ran to a riding car and jumped in. Peter helped her up before they jumped on top of a tuck. Surge looked around, on the lookout for cops when Peter pulled her to him and jumped off the bridge. Jess screamed, fearing for her life. Peter laughed and used his webs to swing them to a safe spot.
"Bus!" Surge called but it was too late. Peter and her rolled across a bus in a painful way. Surge groaned as the bus drove on and they were released. Her ribs were starting to throb again. Peter seemed to notice this because he swung them to one of the dark ally's. He released Surge quickly. She stumbled over to the wall and held her ribs.
"Did one of the bullets hit you?" Peter questioned stepping closer. Surge shook her head.
"No. I'm just still sore from that fall we took two days ago" Peter scratched the back of his mask, remembering that he hit her. "I might heel fast, but broken bones take a while" She joked. Surge ignored her pain and stood up straight again.
"Can you help me find him?" Peter asked, changing the subject. Surge nodded.
"Yes, it will take some time though" Peter sighed but nodded. "Meet me here tomorrow night" Peter looked back at her but she was already gone.
