11. Help from outside

Nearly tripping over her own feet, Jess came to a stop in front of the Parker resident. Steadying herself, she knocked on the door.

"Aunt May" Jess called. No reaction. She tried again but still nothing. Running a hand trough her already messy hair Jess turned around, trying to come up with a plan.

"Come on think" She whispered to herself before she turned back towards the house. Feeling like a complete idiot for forgetting she quickly took the key Aunt May gave her out of her pocked and opened the door.

"Aunt May?" She whisper yelled once she was inside. The house was completely dark and cold. Slowly walking further into the house she sighed at what she saw. Aunt May lay on the couch, completely knocked out. With a ghost smile on her face, Jess placed one of the knitted blankets over Aunt May to keep her warm. She took a couple of seconds more to just look at the woman in front of her, large bags hung under her eyes and Jess couldn't blame her. She had been exactly like that last week. Slowly Jess's eyes trailed upwards towards the stairs. Oh Peter.

"Peter?" She called softly as she entered the room. A soft sniff came from the corner. There sat Peter, his legs pulled against his chest, crying into his hands. Jess stepped towards him. He didn't even seem to notice her but she didn't care. He needed her at the moment. Sliding next to him she watched him for a moment. He seemed to have cried for a while and Jess couldn't blame him, she had when her dad was kidnapped. Gathering her courage she reached out and pulled Peter towards her. He tensed at first but relaxed after a couple of seconds. Normally Jess would have disappeared inside Peter's huge form but he was just so fragile right now. Peter's hands left his face and wrapped around Jess's waist. Jess moved one of her hands toward his hair and ran her hand trough it, her other hand rubbing his back. It reminded her of the time when she and Peter had studied together in his room.

[Memory]

"El perro?"

"Dog"

"la chimenea?"

"Fireplace"

"Correctomundo" Jess said to Peter. They had been practicing for their Spanish exam all day and Peter was getting better and better with every word. At first they were going towards Jess's house but Aunt May had insisted that they would do it at Peter's because she was going to make her famous spaghetti and wanted Jess to try it. Jess couldn't decline of course. She loved Aunt May's food. So here they were now, both on Peter's bed, Jess with her back resting against the wall and Peter's head in her lab. Jess moved on to the next page of her text book before placing her hand in Peter's hair.

"Avión?" She questioned again but this time she didn't get an answer. She raised her eyebrow and looked down at Peter.

"What are you doing?" She laughed seeing that he had closed his eyes. Jess was about to remove her hand from his hair, thinking he was sleeping when he grunted.

"Keep going" He said in a husky voice that send chills down her spine.

"This?" She asked wiggling her fingers. Peter grunted again making Jess smile.

"Feels good?" Peter nodded, his eyes still closed. Jess placed her book next to her on the bed and looked back down at Peter. He looked a lot younger, his face without a trace of worry.

"Your one strange friend, you know" Peter opened one of his eyes and looked at her with a smile.

"But I am your friend"

"My best friend"

[End memory]

At the moment that memory seemed far away. Peter and Jess sat there for, god known how long.
