Camp Human
"Excuse me what? I don't think I heard that correctly." Said Marie. Callie had just explained that the humans were setting up camp next door to cuttlefish.
"Nope, you heard right." Said Axel. "You would have thought that Cuttlefish would be the one to question his hearing, since he is very old."
"Ha ha. Very funny. I guess I should introduce myself then, since I no longer look like a mass murderer." Said Marie, very sarcastically.
"Wow. That's some next gen sarcasm right there." Said Axel.
"Shut up." Said Marie, as she walked off.
"Well, unlike me, they likely can't turf wars, so what exactly are they gonna do to pass the time?" Asked Axel, to no one in general.
"Maybe we can have some fun..." Said Callie with a suggestive face.
"Callie no, they are kids!" Said Axel.
"Relax big guy, I joke!" Said Callie. "But I gotta ask, who do you like?"
"Bold of you to assume I like people." Joked Axel.
"What about that Shelly?" Asked Callie. "She sticks to you like glue."
"She has a boyfriend." Said Axel. "It's Colt."
"Oh." Said Callie. "What about me?"
"This may come as a shock, but last I checked you are an adult, and I am technically 16. Some of the kids on the mission are older than me." Said Axel.
"16!" Exclaimed Callie. "You look like 30!"
"Humans look pretty much like adults by the age of 14 for girls and 16 for boys. Some of them keep growing, but that's the cutoff age for development, usually." Said Axel. "Not to mention most humans are a head taller than inklings and octolings, for the most part."
"Why only for the most part?" Asked Callie.
"Have you met Pearl?" Joked Axel.
"Oooohh, true, haha. Poor Pearl hates being short." Said Callie with an understanding expression.
"Well, I'm gonna go see if the human kids need help setting up camp." Said Axel.
What he did not expect was the scene waiting for him when he arrived...
"Gah! Help!" Yelled 8. Somehow she was tied up in the tent parts. "Why is this thing so complicated???"
"Hang on, I got you." Said Axel, looking exasperated.
"I don't wanna know how she managed to get stuck that bad..." Mumbled Jay. "She said she knew how tents work."
"Jay, she knows how tents from 2050 work. Not 12050." Said Axel. "I don't even know what to do with this... amalgamation of tent parts..."
"Well that's inconvenient." Said Riley. "Because only G-Man knows what to do, and he is setting up the shower. We we're hoping you guys could help."
"They have portable showers?" Thought 8.
"I mean, the portable grill was cool, but that's a bit much." Said Axel. "What else is there, a portable freaking grocery store?"
"...yes..." Mumbled Jose quietly.
"Don't panic, we didn't bring that." Said Jay, seeing Axel with an expression of loss.
"I don't like these reminders of my age, but I'll live." Said Axel.
"What do you mean?" Asked Riley.
"I never was in your home planet, my pod didn't even make it past orbit." Said Axel. "I've been asleep for the last 10000 years."
"Well." Said Riley.
"Dude, that kinda sucks." Said Jay, sympathetically.
"I live with it." Said Axel.
"Well, I guess G-man will have to do everything." Said Riley.
"Sorry G-man!" Yelled Jay.
G-man did not look happy with this arrangement.
"So is that a nickname for him or..." Asked Axel.
"We don't know his name. He won't tell us, so we call him G-man." Said Jay. "He only really talks to Gaven, so we get kinda the silent treatment."
"Ah, I see. Well, don't let me get in the way, I'm heading to the city to play some Ranked mode with my squad, we haven't done it in a bit, and I don't want to get rusty." Said Axel.
"I thought the Cyborgs can't rust?" Said Riley.
"He means at the game, whatever it is." Called Gaven from across the camp. "You dork."
"Cya later, I guess." Said Jay.
"Indeed." Said Axel.
*Insert G-Man yelling at the tent.*
"I think it'll be a bit, but maybe you can talk to Jay, or Riley. They seem like the talking type." Said Axel.
"I'd love to have a long chat with that pretty thing." Said Riley flirtatiously.
"Dude she's an adult no." Said Jay and Axel at the same time.
"My life is a lie..." Mumbled Riley.
"Well, cya!" Said Axel, as he ran off to demolish in Ranked.
"What did Axel just leave to do?" Asked Jay.
"He went to play some ranked games. I think today the mode is Tower Control. No wonder he seemed so hyped..." Said Callie.
"What's that?" Asked Riley.
"Well, in tower control, you sit on a tower, and ride it to the enemy base, while they try to knock you off by shooting you with ink weapons." Explained Callie.
"So why was Axel so excited! Asked Riley.
"Axel developed his own ink weapons. One shoots a wave that ignores heiggt changes, making it super overpowered in Tower Control." Said Callie.
"I'm not about to say I understand, but I think I get the list of it." Said Jay.
"Hey, do you know that other inkling?" Asked Riley, seeing Marie.
"Oh! Hi Marie!" Called Callie. "She's my cousin." She told Riley and Jay.
"So these are the humans Axel told me about." Said Marie. "They look very energetic."
"...is that good?" Asked Jay.
"Depends. Are you physically capable of sleeping at a reasonable time?" Asked Marie. "Because that's Gramps' house over there, and he is going on 100, so he needs his sleep."
"...I think I am, but I can't speak for the rest of these dorks." Joked Riley.
"Riley why? Yes ma'am, we can be responsible." Said Jay.
"Good. Uh, does your... Friend over there need help?" Asked Marie, seeing G-man fighting the tent.
"I mean, feel free to try, but a cute octopus girl already got tied up, and we didn't even touch the thing." Said Riley.
"Poor 8." Said Marie. "Well, Octolings don't have much experience with above ground things. They mostly live underground."
Marie walked over, and asked G-man "ya need help?"
G-man gave her a look that said yes.
"Ok then." Said Marie. "This doesn't look to tricky..."
With Marie's help G-man got the tents set up in 5 minutes. Jay and Riley looked at her with an expression of loss. "How?"
"Well, I know a ton about tents." Said Marie. "This really wasn't that hard, once G-man showed me what part went to what."
"But it takes a ton of strength to do that!" Exclaimed Riley.
"If you had any clue about Inkling biology, I would slap you. Unlike a human, Inklings have no bones, we are solid muscle." Said Marie.
"You're a scary person." Said Riley.
"Have you seen Axel?" Joked Marie. "First impression I had of him was 'shit, that guys eats sharks and nails for breakfast.'
"Well, he looks grotesque, but I can't say he looks that bad." Said Riley.
"How come no one but you 2 bother talking?" Asked Marie, while Callie nodded.
"Well." Said Jay. "Jose is shy, especially around girls. And G-man and Gaven don't even talk to us that often, just to each other. They told us they had some pretty jacked up childhoods. I don't know to specifics, and I doubt they would tell you, what with the trust issues they have being nigh insurmountable."
"And it doesn't help that we don't even know that your species existed till like 7 hours ago. We we're briefed in the way here, when we hit the Milky Way, before you ask." Said Riley, seeing Callie about to ask something.
"What's the Milky Way?" Asked Marie.
"It sounds like an ice cream flavor." Said Callie.
"Well, you know that this is planet Earth. Earth is in a system of planets, other large objects like earth, that circle the sun, which I believe you know about." Started Jay.
"Past that level, there are multiple other systems of planets spinning around. They make up a galaxy, known as the Milky Way." Finished Riley.
"Axel said that humans left the galaxy. Why?" Asked Callie.
"Well, there are no other life-supporting planets in the Milky Way." Said Riley. "They left for the nearest other Galaxy, the Andromeda Galaxy, which is far away. The trip took 2 days, and we we're going as fast as light."
"You teleport?" Asked Marie, shocked.
"Actually, light is fast, but it can't teleport. A good example is that if the sun were to stop existing, Earth would still have light for a day or 2." Jay tried to explain.
Marie nodded in comprehension, but Callie had a blank face, as none of that made sense.
"Did I break her?" Asked Riley nervously.
Callie shook her head. "No I'm ok. That was a lot to try and think about."
"Too bad we don't have Axel right now." Said Marie. "He could make this very clear."
"The cyborgs all have very fast information processers." Agreed Jay.
"Ok?" Said Callie, more confused.
"Well, I'm gonna go make sure everything is situated. You coming, Riley?" Said Jay.
"Yeah." Said Riley. "See you guys later."
When the squid sisters left, Jay elbowed Riley and whispered "dude, good job staying so collected in the presence of those 2."
"Oh, shut up man." Said Riley back.
"Well, I have no idea where Gaven is." Said Jose. "But I'm all set in this tent."
"Thanks for reminding us. Let's call Gaven in our communication gloves, and turn in for the night." Said Jay.
(A/N the "communication gloves" are the closest I could get within reason of the plot to DisRandomDude's shockers. Read his story, The Last Beings, to understand. I promise it has high quality.)
