The next morning.

Axel woke up early. He quickly got Colt and Shelly up, and they started setting up decorations. Axel pinned streamers to the ceiling, and did other high up decorations while Colt and Shelly handled lower decorations. When he finished decorating the ceiling, Axel started baking a cake. Having not tried the recipe before, he didn't want to add anything extra. Once he was done prepping the cake, Axel asked Colt "ever heard of a pīnata?"

"A what?" Said Colt.

"I'll take that as no. Do you have a plank and a box lying around?" Asked Axel.

"There's a few old shoeboxes in the closet, and I have an old baseball bat from when I was 12. Does that count?" Replied Colt.

"Yes it does." Said Axel. "I'll be out for a few. Call me if that timer goes off, we don't want to burn the cake."

Axel retrieved the items Colt had mentioned, and started making a makeshift pīnata.

3 hours later.

"Everything is done!" Said Shelly.

"Now we wait for when Edge wakes up. Your friends still haven't called, so maybe he can talk to them too." Said Colt to Axel.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Axel went to see who it was.

"Dude we need the lights off!" Said Colt.

"It isn't Edge." Said Axel. "I'm surprised these two got up early enough to join us. Wait, wow. I guess they all wanted to help."

"Who is it?" Asked Shelly.

"All of Squidbeak." Said Axel.

"You're squidding me." Said Colt.

"See for yourself." Said Axel, opening the door.

"Oh my gosh this is so cute!" Squeaked Callie the second she saw the decorations.

"I told you so." Said Axel.

"But how did they know?" Asked Shelly.

"Callie texted me about 80000000 times." Said Axel. "So I told her what was up."

"Well, all for the better, I guess." Said Colt. "Welcome guys!"

Shelly was kind of thrown at seeing Callie and Marie out of their stage clothes, and felt kind of silly about that.

"Agent 3 drove us over." Said agent 8. "I wanted to see what a birthday party was... And Callie wanted to see you guys again."

Callie blushed extra hard, and faced the corner.

"Callie, that's so kind..." Axel started before his ear started ringing.

"Ooh, are your friends calling?" Asked Shelly.

"But you guys are all right here..." Said Agent 4 in confusion.

Axel answered the ringing, and a voice blared out "dude! Sorry I didn't call sooner, Sue had a lot of daycare work to do. But she is here now!"

"That's actually perfect, Rick." Said Axel. "One of my friends' birthdays is today!"

"Is it that cutie, Shelly?" Asked Rick.

Shelly blushed.

"No, his name is Edge. You haven't met." Said Axel.

"Ah. Ok." Said Rick. "Well, you wanna talk to Sue for a bit?"

"Yes, please." Said Axel. "I missed her just as much as I missed you."

"You flatterer." Said Rick. "Alright, one sec."

"Rick, is that Axel?" Asked a more feminine voice.

"Yep, back from the dead." Said Rick.

"Hi Axel!" Shouted the new voice, Sue.

"Sue, please, my ears." Said Axel.

"Oops, my bad." Sue giggled.

"She sounds like you Cal." Marie whispered to her cousin. "Axel, who are you talking to?"

"Some old friends. Unlike me, they actually made it to their destination on the spaceship." Said Axel.

Marie gave him a more confused face.

"Oh right, I never told you guys what happened, only Shelly and Colt actually know. I'll have to tell you later." Said Axel. "Hold up! Edge is waking up in 10 minutes! Colt, can you get him? Everyone else, hide!"

"What's going on, Axel?" Asked Sue.

"We are throwing a surprise party for a friend. He'll be here in a few minutes." Said Axel.

"Dude, turn your eyescreen on. We wanna see everyone!" Said Rick.

"How can Sue see?" Asked Axel.

"I made her a screen too. You aren't the only techie." Said Rick smugly. "We are in a conference call."

"Oh ok." Said Axel. "But I'll cover the screen till the birthday boy gets here, because it makes light."

"I can live with that." Said Rick.

"Ok. He is coming, when you hear a voice ask 'where is the light?', we are all shouting 'surprise!', ok?" Said Axel.

Everyone nodded, and ducked behind things to hide.

2 minutes later.

Colt walked in, talking to Edge. Edge asked, "Dude, where are the lights?"

When he said that, Shelly flipped on the light and everyone jumped up an said "Surprise! Happy birthday, Edge!"

"Wha... I... You guys are legends!" Said Edge, stunned by the fact that both the Squid Sisters and OffTheHook made time to come to his birthday.

"What are friends for?" Asked Colt.

"So, he is the lucky birthday boy?" Asked Sue.

"Yes, yes he is." Said Axel. "Wait, who do you think it is?"

"Not the black tentacle one." Said Rick.

"Then you are correct." Said Axel. "His name is Edge."

"I think I gathered that much." Said Sue. "You goon."

"Oof. I have feelings Sue." Said Axel jokingly.

"Who are you talking to Axel?" Asked Edge.

"Some old friends of mine. They can't exactly be here in person, but at least on wants to hang out, in some form." Said Axel.

"Hey Axel, do you have that holo-stand I made for your 15th birthday?" Asked Rick.

"Actually, maybe. No one here can see you guys, so I'll see if I can't get it working, but first I need to explain what a pīnata is. The people of this time have never heard of one before." Said Axel.

"What's a pin-yata?" Asked Callie.

"Basically, Callie, A pīnata is a container that you hang from the ceiling." Said Axel.

"What does it do?" Asked Shelly.

"You feel it with sweets, and beat the everliving crap out of it with a stick." Said Axel.

"Hey Sue, remember when we broke the wall at your 13th birthday, when we had a pīnata?" Asked Rick.

"That hole was still there when we left." Said Sue. "Of course I remember."

"Well, let's do the pīnata, while I try to get this thing working." Said Axel, who had retrieved the holo-stand from his innards.

"Dude I heard that noise. It's probably for the better, but why was that in your stomach?" Asked Rick.

"Unlike you, sir utility," said Axel. "I don't have a file cabinet in my right thigh."

While Axel tinkered will the the holo-stand, everyone else lined up to beat the makeshift pīnata Axel had made. As per custom, Edge went first. The pīnata didn't break from his swing, but he didn't really swing that hard.

20 minutes later

Callie had volunteered to go last for the pīnata, as she knew she would hit harder, because she used the roller, and also to admire the whole party.

Suddenly, Axel said "Rick, I think it's working. Do you have to do anything?"

"No." Said Rick. "Hang on. Try to connect your cam to it. It has Bluetooth."

"Sure..." Said Axel.

"For a weapon techie, you seem to have issues with the whole 'turn the thing on' concept." Joked Sue.

"For your information, there is no power switch in the wavebreaker or the new ARC I made 2 weeks ago." Said Axel defensively.

"Wait, I think we do need something." Said Rick.

"Why have you liked to me." Said Axel.

"I need to turn my projector on." Said Rick.

"Like the one in my eye?" Asked Axel.

"No, it's the counterpart to that holo-stand. It let's us show up. Please turn on the projector you have, wait you already did that part." Said Rick.

"It has 5 power buttons, I guess I got lucky." Said Axel.

"Then let me just get this hooked up... And there!" Rick said, as a hologram of him and Sue appeared in the middle of the room. "Did it work?"

"Yeah. It did." Said Axel. "What's on your side?"

"Everyone here." Said Rick.

Callie nervously poked the hologram, and gasped and as her hand phased through it.

"It's a hologram Callie." Said Axel. "It's made of light, you can't touch it. But don't let me stop your fun."

"Oh..." Callie blushed.

"Omg they're so cute!" Said Sue. "I wish I could keep the smol one."

Everyone looked at Pearl.

"Ack! Nooo, I'm not cute!" Yelled Pearl.

The rest of the party continued without incident, and the Oceanics and Cyborgs learned about each other. Finally gift time came around.

"Alright Edge!" Said Axel. " Time for your presents.

"Ok. One sec." Said Edge.

Edge sat in a circle of everyone else who came. First Shelly and Colt handed him a gift.

"We tried our best to guess what you would like..." Said Shelly nervously.

Edge opened the gift, and found jet pilot goggles.

"Awesome!" He said. "I've been looking for some of these everywhere! Where'd you find them?"

"Somewhere..." Colt said ominously.

"Ooh! Me next!" Said Callie.

"So coot." Said Sue.

"Sh-shush!" Stuttered Callie.

Edge open the Squid Sisters' gift.

"It's the hero suit?" Said Edge. "That's cool! But I thought I had one already?"

"Oh, right..." Said Callie, looking dejected.

"It's ok Callie. I appreciate the thought." Said Edge.

"Here's our gift." Said Marina.

Edge unwrapped it, and found a Hydra Splatling, and a questionably large amount of the of mayonnaise.

"We couldn't pick which was better." Said Pearl.

"I though we agreed not to give him mayo..." Mumbled Marina.

"We aren't really there, so we don't have a gift." Said Sue. "I feel bad about that."

"It's ok." Said Edge. "Meeting you guys was gift enough. Thanks for that Axel."

"That's not my gift." Said Axel. "I also got you a gift." He handed over a large box.

"Dude the box is big enough to sleep in." Said Colt.

"Edge, open it!" Said Shelly.

Edge unwrapped the large box. Inside was a large metal... Something.

"Axel what is this?" Asked Edge

"It's a hoverdrone." Said Axel. "There's a controller in there too. I built it extra large, so you can ride it around."

"That's amazing! You built it?" Asked Edge.

"That's what I was doing when I left. Rick walked me through the parts I couldn't do." Said Axel.

"Thanks for making this the best birthday ever guys." Said Edge.

"Anything for a friend!" Said Shelly.

After that, everyone left, but Edge wouldn't forget that birthday, because it was the first he had with friends.
