✿Chapter Five✿

Marc's P.O.V:

...Nathaniel... wants to ask out Lila to the upcoming dance? A part of myself shatters to my own partner's work as I close my eyes for a second with my hair hanging down as a shield. Why? Why is my first idea for myself to ask out Nathaniel to the dance?! Of course he won't feel the same back! He might even feel the same way about how I can feel for him.

"Huh? Hey Marc?"

I snap back to reality as I turn back up to my red hair crush in front of me as he reaches for another chocolate croissant, grabbing it and nibbling on the end of it first. Come on Marc, pull yourself together, it's bound to happen anyways, what hope and dreams for Nathaniel I sure have. Us? Together? A couple? What kind of odds are that?

"S-Sorry, dozed off f-for a-a moment!" I apologize to Nathaniel as I scratch the back of my head awkwardly.

"Oh! that's fine! I was just asking you... Should I try to write the letter for Lila more... sincere and meaningful? Or, should it instead be something more basic and straightforward?"

I ponder for a moment as another piece of me is shattered with a wrecking ball. That name already haunts me right off the bat, if anything Nathaniel is probably has a thing for Lila... I guess this is it, the end of everything and what I can only hope for.

"Look, I... forget t-that I g-got to go... B-But, I-I say that you try to m-make it s-sound meaningful."

I simply answer Nathaniel as I take one chocolate croissant for myself on the go as I exit the bakery. What kind of idiot am I? Nathaniel loving me back? Impossible. Completely impossible. I keep biting into the chocolate croissant as I keep walking forward, a single warm tear runs down my eye and down my cheek as I quickly wipe it.

Nathaniel's P.O.V:

"... Great job Nath... What a blow."

I just know it, somehow I hurt Marc. Lila? Now I have to ask Lila to the dance, or else Marc is going to catch on and see I'm lying to him. But, Marc is one of my best friends. How can I explain everything here? How can I even explain this to myself? I shift a hand into my satchel as I grab another chocolate croissant with my other. I slip out my phone as I scroll through all the contacts. I quickly find Alix's number as I press my thumb onto it as it immediately starts to buzz in my hand. My hand moves up to my ear as I keep chewing on the croissant in my hand.

"Yo Nath! What's going on here? I just made it home."

"Hey, Alix... sorry to bother, but... mind if we can talk for a moment?"

"Well, I can happily always say 'screw it' to my homework any day. But yeah, what's going on man?"

"I... think I'm having a moment to question myself and my identity..."

"Oh boy, what's going on this time Nath?"

"I... can be wrong, but, I might have some romantic feelings for Marc... However, I was such a idiot for saying I'm planning to ask Lila out to that seasonal school dance. Now I have to do just that or else Marc will know I'm just lying to him..."

"Damn, that's sure rough... but, why didn't you just try to invite Marc to the dance first? Possibly just as friends first and then you can confess your feelings to him. Secondly, LILA?! Her out of all people? Why didn't you just say someone like Rose or Juleka? I'm sure they'd understand much better..."

Alix explains to me as she on her side of the call can hear a small shout of her name. Alix groans on her side as she releases a soft sigh into my ear.

"Sorry Nath, my mom is trying to get me to do my homework... We can chat tomorrow at school or something if you'd like!" Alix offers as something inside myself feels a moment of hopelessness. I shrug it off as I hold my phone still in my ear still.

"It's all good Alix! see you at school then!" I reply to her as she says goodbye back to me. The call ends in my hand as I pull it away from my ear, I stare at the small image of Alix on my phone as her contact profile as I sigh to myself again.

I drop my phone onto the table as I place both my hands onto my face. God, what an idiot I am. I mean, I guess? Mental panic slaps me in the face as I groan through my hands, muffling it as I crack my fingers apart, just enough as I can peek my eyes through them. The last chocolate croissant sits in the plate in front of me as I take it and I quickly finish it up. Swiping my hands together I remove all the croissant flakes on my hands as they fall onto the plate. I shift myself out of my seat as I call behind me a quick and clear 'Thank you' to the bakery as I exit it. I watch outside the bakery different people crossing streets and entering buildings as fresh air hits me in the face. I need to talk to either Alix or Marc tomorrow. Or else I know my mind will be off into space, leaving 'myself' behind.

Marc's P.O.V:

I walk up to my apartment as I deeply sigh with a pair of my personal house keys in my hand. Fumbling around for the right key as I stick it into the lock, I twist it easily as I push myself inside. My legs go for the elevator as I enter inside it. The doors close in front of me as I patiently wait for my floor to come up. My notebook still at my chest, even though some tips of the pages are crinkly and smell somewhat like tea. The doors open up as I walk out and I head to my apartment room. I again stick my keys into my apartment room as I open it up carefully.

"Mom? I-I'm home."

I call out as I let myself inside. Slip my shoes right off as I put them aside. My mom with similar black hair and brown eyes comes to me with a bright grin on her face. Her black hair in a bun as she pulls down her dress.

"Welcome home Marc sweetie, how was school today? Made any new friends?"

I shake my head to my mom as I flash at her the best smile I can manage.

"N-No... but, I got to hang out with Nathaniel today, so... that's why I'm home a bit later then usual."

"I'm not too worried, I mean... Nathaniel is your best friend! I understand the two of you need to be together and chat."

"... Yeah mom, I'll be in my room for now!"

"Sure thing! Make sure to finish any homework if you have any!"

I hum loudly to my mom as I hurry up towards my room. I open the door as I throw my notebook to my desk. I close the door behind me before I release a small whimper. Of course, I should have known from the very start.

"How am I so blind-?"

A small thud rings into my ears as I look back towards my desk. Did I just knock off something from my desk? I walk towards it as I bend down and look under my typical writing desk. A small black octagon box lays on the floor as I cock my head a little in my own confusion. Since when do I have this? I grab it off the floor as I open it up, slowly and carefully as I spot a bright mint green bracelet inside. Okay yeah, I never remember having this.

"H-Huh? Who i-is this even from?"

I take the bracelet out of the small box as I place it onto my right wrist. A bright glow launches out of the bracelet as I cover my eyes with my arms thanks to how ridiculously bright this is. The light dies down as I slowly uncover my face. A strange floating bright mint green cobra like creature stretches itself out along with it's long tail.

"Well, enough of me flexing for you. My name is-."

I already feel myself go weak as my vision fades out into a deep endless black void. The small cobra like creature notices me in a way as I completely slip out of consciousness.

"H-Hey! Wake... Up!"
