Chapter 10: Canon Flash

"Jack, what brings ya 'ere?" Jack smiles, the liquid in his bottle sloshing.

"Hector! It's been too long." Barbossa squints at him.

"Aye Jack, now if ya hand over the Pearl, I'll be lettin' you and the girl go." Jack's head moves in her direction, but then back to Barbossa. She decides to speak up.

"I don't believe I'm a capture Barbossa." He thinks for a moment then nods, and beckons to a number of crew members hidden in the shadows.

They rush forward, weapons in hands, and before she can move, they have her disarmed, her sword lying on the ground.

Lashing out, she tries to defend herself, but the sheer numbers overpower her and she is forced to her knees.

She feeling a rope being wound around her wrists behind her back, and Jack remains standing.

Barbossa smiles and speaks to her.

"Now ya are," He turns to Jack now and speaks again. "Jack, the Pearl."

Jack nods and steps forward, sporting what looks like a grimace on his face.

"To tell you the truth, I don't have it." The captain smirks down at him and responds.

"I know ya, Jack, that ship be worth livin' for, so where is it?"

"I don't have is Barbossa, told ya that." He grins, and Barbossa snarls. He jerks his head, and three men come forward. One grabs her bound arms, the other two snatch Jack.

Barbossa grins evilly and addresses to Jack.

"I'll let ya think about it in the brig."

Two men come forward, one grabs Jack, and the other her bound wrists. She soon realizes that the man holding her is Scrum, she tries to move her head to look at him, but he won't make eye contact.

Snarling, she moves forward. She glances up to find Barbossa looking down upon them from the balcony, watching them as they vanish down the stairs.

As they walk in the semi-darkness, she feels something cool and smooth slide into her hand.

A knife. Scrum has just given her a knife.

Making sure not to show the surprise drawn across her face, she slips it into her sleeve, careful to not let the other man see.

The move to a series of cells that appear to be near the hull of the ship.

The man holding Jack opens one, holding a set of keys in one hand and Sparrow in the other. He pushes open the door, shoving Jack inside first, then taking her from Scrum, and throwing her in as well.

Falling on her side, Jack moves to sit in the corner of the cell, sipping on his still present bottle of rum.

Growling in frustration, she pulls the knife from her sleeve and begins to cut away at the ropes binding her wrists.

"Ooh, you've got a knife, that's good," Jack speaks up behind her. She ignores him, sawing the blade back and forth until the ropes fall away.

Sitting up, she lets out a breath and stuffs the knife in her boot. Jack tips his bottle back again, the last of the rum draining down his throat.

He mumbles something under his breath, and she sends him a look of disgust, turning to the cell bars.

Taking the knife from her boot, she begins to carve away at the bars.

"Won't do you any good mate." His hat is now tipped to cover his eyes, the bottle now lying on the ground forgotten. He responds to her silent question.

"Seeing as it used to be Blackbeard's ship, I don't think that'll do you, good lad." He smirks under his hat brim, she growls, returns the knife to her boot, and sits down opposite of him.

She determinedly looks hard at the wooden walls of the ship, hoping to avoid the eyes of Sparrow.

Out of the corner of her eye, she sees him tip his hat back, revealing his eyes, and his grin widens.

"What?" She questions, infuriated by his actions. He tips his head back, smiles, and shakes his head.

She opens her mouth in protest to only be interrupted by what sounds like the sounds of cannons.

She bolts to her feet, and so does Jack, pressing his face to a crack in the wood.

She tilts her head skeptically and begins to walk forward to join him.

In the blink of an eye, he turns around and runs toward her, his arms encircling her. He runs them both into the ground, and a loud bang follows suit.

Squinting her eyes shut, she feels splinters of wood being thrown into the air, and the weight of Jack on top of her, breathing slowly.

After a moment, she opens her eyes, dust still hanging in the air and hunks of wood laying over the cell floor. She feels one imparticular digging into her wrist, but not drawing blood.

She starts to cough, Jack topples off of her, also coughing slightly.

She sits up slowly, the dust clearing. Gazing around, she finds a head sized hole where Jacks' head was. Her mouth opens slightly in surprise, and she uses the bars to steady herself as she stands.

A thin layer of water sloshes in the cell, soaking her clothes slightly. Her hat floats in a corner, sporting a rather large gash from a bit of wood.

The cannon ball responsible for almost killing both her and Jack, lays in the corner of the cell, its black surface gleaming in the dawn light.

Walking shakily over to the hole in the ship, she sticks her head out, the salty sea spraying up into her face.

In front of her is a ship, and by the looks of it, is no pirates vessel.

The sails are well made, their white surfaces rippling in the breeze. Their walls are painted with black and gold, in precise stripes. Their cannons flash, but holes already pepper the rails and wood.

Men stand in formation stand along the rails, firing their guns in flashes, but one by one, they fall.

Another great crack splits through the air and the main mast falls slowly, the wood snapping, sending shards into a man standing too close.

"Navy ship," Jack speaks beside her, peeking through a smaller hole in the wood.

She should have guessed, between the blue, red, and white flag rippling in the breeze, and the men in formation, it certainly wasn't a Pirates ship.

Another canon ball comes barreling through the air, and she ducks instinctively.

It barrels into the cell on her left, tearing apart the door.

"They're going to tear the ship apart." She turns to Jack, who is examining the cell door, ravaged by the canon ball.

"Best be helpin' em aye?" He pushes open the door, a mischevious grin stretched across his face.

Her mouth opens in shock.

"How-?" He grins and rushes down the ship corridor. She quickly steals a glance at the door, before hastily running after him.

It appeared the cannonball tore apart the door, allowing it to open on its own.

Being several footfalls behind him, she nearly loses him when they both climb the stairs.

The scene aboard the ship is chaos. Navy men had begun to board the ship, ensuing battles between the two crew erupted around her. Dead men lie scattered about the floor, both Navy, and pirate.

Glancing around, fearing that she had lost Jack, she finds him at the rail, facing the Navy ship. Grumbling something about how stupid pirates are, she runs over to him.

"Jack-" She starts but is interrupted by a crossing Navy crewman, who has come over by rope.

Sparrow knocks him off the side of the ship, sending him sprawling into the waves. He then grabs the rope and yells in her ear.

"Hold on tight love." He backs up slightly, runs to the edge of the ship, and jumps.

She screams, the sound echoing through the air.

They land on the edge of the Navy ship, and she gapes at him in shock.

"Wait here." He runs into the same chaos aboard Barbossa's ship, disappearing down a flight of stairs.

Still, in shock from the swing, she jumps when a Navy man runs toward her, his sword outstretched.

Spotting a fallen pirate laying feet away from her, she snatches his sword and blocks the Navy man's strike.

He swings up, prepared to swing down again, but a sword stabs through his back, protruding out his stomach.

He makes a gurgling noise, a drop of blood falls from his mouth to the deck. He falls, more blood flowing through the wound.

The pirate responsible doesn't give her a second glance and moves away.

She stands there for a moment, frozen in shock, but is quickly snapped back to reality due to the new incoming Navy man with his sword drawn.

Her sword held loosely in her hand, she blocks the first few of his strikes, but the fourth, he knocks the blade from her hands.

She begins to back toward the edge of the ship, toward the rail, when a hand grabs the Navy man's wrist.

Jack spins him around and speaks.

"That's not very nice." In one swift movement, he has him thrown over the ship.

He wraps, once again, his arms around her waist, grabs a rope, and swings back to the ship.

They dodge an incoming Navy soldier, and he barely manages to drag her underneath the balcony.

Then the ship explodes.
