Chapter 6 Ria

I have never been more grateful for tinted windows than now. I stare at the many kids spread around the campus and I pull my knees to my chest. I look at my mother with pleading eyes, she smiles and lays a hand on my shoulder,

"It will only get worse the longer you stay away, I know that it seems impossible but you can do this." I take a deep breath breath and breath goodbye, I then step out of the car and close the door behind me.

A few people see me and start notifying others that the "girl" is here. Soon everyone is looking at me but only one person has the guts to look me in the eyes.

Ice-blue eyes freeze me in place but I'm soon thawed by Iris's warm smile. She walks up to me and holds out a hand.

"Would you like me to take you to your locker, my Lady" she says with a wide mischievous smile and I can't help but smile,

"Why yes" I reply with a smirk of my own, somehow she seems to put me at ease.

I follow her as she leads me down a hallway with lockers along the way. Iris stops in front of one and rests her hand on a locker.

" This one is yours, the one next to it is mine" she opens the locker next to mine and starts rummaging through it.

"What's my locker combination?" I ask quietly, she chuckles and closes the locker with books in her arms.

"Sorry I forgot about that, it's open right now, whatever code you put in will set until the school resets at the end of senior year!" she chirps, her smile drops in an instant and she drops her eyes.

I hear someone clear their throat behind me and I turn around to see two very similar looking girls.

"Our names are Sara and Leila Makes, we are 80s and we know what it's like to be powerful and the odd ones out, so we can help you get by this year," said Sara, the brunette twins smile and Leila steps forward,

"We would like to invite you to be friends with us" Leila stated, they seemed to act like this invite was a huge honor,

"Ummm, ok?" I muttered, "I've got to go to class, Iris will you show me the way?" Iris mutters a yes and starts walking with her head down past the twins and I sidestep them.

They seemed surprised by my answer, as if they expected I would get down on my knees and thank them for the invitation. I grunt in disgust at their arrogance, Iris looks up slightly but keeps her head down.

"What's with them?" I ask her, she looks up and sighs,

"Their parents are the richest around here and practically own the town. The sisters are also a score of 80 of pain and still." She seems to wince at the mention of their ability, I brush it off and keep on walking as that truth settles in. Note to self, do not get on those girls' bad side.

"This is our class" She mutters and we both wait until the bell rings to go in. For the rest of the day, Iris stays quiet and only answers my questions with the shortest answers possible.

At lunch I sit with Iris but soon the twins pull me away to theirs leaving Iris behind, no one sits next to her and she eats in silence. The girls spent the entire lunch talking about themselves but I found my thoughts drifting back to Iris.

When the school day was finally over I looked over to Iris to say goodbye and found that she looked scared and was gazing toward the street.

"See you tomorrow?" I asked, I wonder if she could hear the pleading tone in my voice. I could feel my eyebrows pursed as she forced a smile and nodded, she waved goodbye and started round a corner.

I then see that the twins followed her around the corner, and a bad feeling settled in the pit of my stomach although I brush it off.

As I get into my mother's car and pull away we drive past the girls talking in front of Iris who is up against a wall.  Once again I have a bad feeling and once again I ignore it.
