Our car pulls up the driveway and I jump out as soon as it stops, my mother calls my name but I ignore her and run to my room. I slam the door behind me and I hear my mother enter the house. My emotions overrun me and I find myself stumbling over to my bed.

I pull myself into a ball and I feel my body shake as I start to sob, I hear a soft knock at my open door.

"Can I come in?" my mother says softly, I hear the thump thump of her boots as she glides to my side. She rubs my back in small circles as I tire myself out, and soon my sobs had been reduced to sniffles.

"I know  that right now it feels like you'll never feel better, but it will get better and you'll come to a normal"  She murmurs in a reassuring tone, but instead of comfort I feel rage,

"HOW!" I yell, surprising her "How will anything be normal again, you saw how they were looking at me!" I'm surprised to see my fear in my mother's eyes, I launch off the bed and run to the bathroom mirror.

My eyes are glowing and my hair floats up above me on fire although it does not burn. I think of the dream I had about my mother and I bend down to the toilet and puke.

My mother comes into the bathroom and sees me sitting next to the toilet with my hands on my face. She touches my shoulder and I jerk away from her,

"Don't touch me!" I cry, " I could hurt you" I whisper, my vision blurs hot tears stream down my face. She takes me in her arms and against my protest, doesn't let me go.

She doesn't say anything but continues to hold me, when I finally look up tears fill my mother's eyes. Guilt replaces my fear and I slowly stand up, we walk back to my room and like a child, she tucks me into bed.

"I'll make you some soup" she winks knowing that I couldn't say no to my favorite comfort food, she bends down and whispers to my skin as she kisses my forehead, " You will never hurt me". She leaves my room and I struggle to stay awake but sleep claims me.
