Chapter 1 Ria

My mother screams as fire licked up her legs, she looks at me with wild eyes as her Auburn hair smokes and two word escapes her mouth,
"Wake up" she says, pulling me out of my dream. I sit up with a jolt as the memory of my dream burns my eyelids. My vision blurs as a head rush spins the room.

"It's time for school." she chirps, pulling the covers off of me. Fear settles in the pit of my stomach as I groan. Today is the first day of school for me (for everyone else it's the second week) , Freshman year in a new small town. All the kids probably know each other, but I was expelled from my last school leaving me no choice but to suck it up.

Last year some girls had been bullying me and my power manifested into flame turning the hands of the golden girls of the school into ash.

Like everyone I have abilities, specifically, I have a fire ability. There are other types of abilities, my mother is a Flower which means she can control and grow plants at the flick of her wrist (making her a crazy plant lady).

"Don't be late for school!" Mom yelled as she closed my door. I jumped up and pulled on some jeans and my favorite flannel going for comfort over fashion. I grabbed a brush and pulled it through my wavy dirty blond hair, I then pulled on some converse and rushed downstairs to the kitchen. I grabbed an apple from the fruit basket and the lunch money my mom left on the counter and walked out the door.

I walked down the sidewalk seeing nobody else on my ten-minute walk to school, I hoped I could get there early and avoid the stares that I would get walking into school. When I arrived a few students littered the grounds but all of them were too busy with their own affairs to notice me. I soon find my way to the front office and find a plump lady sitting at the desk.

"Hello" I practically whispered half hoping she wouldn't hear me, but of course, she did. The woman whipped her head up and glared at me. I felt a slight numbness wash over me, she must be a Still, someone who could leave you unable to move a muscle (most likely falling to the ground). It seems her annoyance left her radiating her ability.

"Why are you here so early?" she growled, offended by the disruption in her morning routine.

"Well I'm starting today and I don't know my schedules or where the classrooms are." I mumbled, but by some miracle, she could understand what I was saying.

"Hmmm," she said, considering it, apparently she decided that I deserved some of her time, she mumbled something then started clacking away on her computer, then grabbed something from the printer.

"Here you go, this is a schedule of the times of your classes and the room numbers, this is today's schedule because of you and your power level test we will be having a community meeting in the gym, and finally this is a map of the school," she said, handing my three different papers with a gut-wrenching smirk.

"Good luck," she says in a sing-song voice, and the numbness disappears as if it were never there.

On the first day of school I did not do the test with the others to find out my level of power since I had not manifested yet but the next day my manifestation had gotten a quick expulsion. I swallowed and tried to smile, settling for a grimace.

I walked out of the office to see multiple people hanging about the campus and more coming. As I walked the students all stared as if I was an alien from mars. Only one girl didn't look up to stare, she had a complexion that reminded me of the moon.

Her hair was silver like moonlight and her skin was pale yet a wonderful rose undertone made her beautiful with pale ice-blue eyes. A droplet of water formed in her hand turning into a bird flapping its wings in her hand. She must be a River, they could control water.

The girl suddenly looked up and pierced me with those eyes and her water bird burst as curiosity filled her face. Before either of us could approach the other a bell rang and I rushed to the gym following my map trying not to think of the moon girl.
