Chapter 3: Witches Before Wizards ( Part 1 )
A/n: Hey, guys, I'm just letting you know that there are a few changes in this episode due to Amora having a somewhat different personality than Luz, but I hope you like it anyway. Now onward to the chapter!
______________________________________________________________________________________
Amora slowly woke up with a yawn, and looked at her surroundings and saw that the events of the day before wasn't a dream, making her let out a sigh of relief while King was still asleep and snoring.
Amora: ( silently, with a relieved smile: ) It wasn't a dream.
Amora then slowly got out of her makeshift bed before she picked up her teddy bear and put it back into her backpack where it was safe. She then put the backpack on before she opened the window to take a deep breath, taking in the morning air. She slowly walked towards the door as to not wake up King, who was still snoring. She then slowly and quietly made her way to the hall and to the bathroom door, but when she opened the door, several owls flew out of the room before landing on the human girl, one of them landed on her head, and they immediately started showing her signs of affection.
Amora: ( to the owls, with a small smile: ) Oh my. Good morning to you too, it's very nice to meet all of you, but I really need to wash up for the day now. I hope to see all of you later though.
The owls then fly off as Amora went inside, she then let out a yelp of fright when she saw Hooty a few inches away from her face.
Hooty: Hi, Amora!
Amora: H-Hello, Hooty. W-What brings you here?
Hooty: I'm just wishing you good morning. Good morning!
Amora then silently watched as Hooty retreated out the bathroom window and back to the front door. Amora then takes a deep breath to calm her nerves before she walked to the sink and turned on the cold water to splash some of it on her face before she quickly turned it off, grab a towel, and dried her face off before looking around at her surroundings to check if she wasn't dreaming.
Amora: ( thoughts: ) Still here... Am I really free from Father? If I am, why does feel like all of this is just one big dream?
Amora then walked to the bathroom window and looked at the world she was in through it with a worried look in her eyes.
Amora: ( thoughts: ) Is it because of where I am? No, no, Amora don't think like this, if you continue to think like this you would be ungrateful to Eda after she and King had let you in their home. I should probably go downstairs and get breakfast ready...
Amora then walked out of the bathroom and started making her way to the kitchen.
( A few minutes later )
Eda walked into a kitchen and walked to a cabinet to grab a mug, not noticing King sitting in a high chair as he was stabbing a fork into a yellow blob with eyes on a plate while Amora can be seen reading a cook book while making something on the stove with a pan. Eda was about to open the fridge when she finally noticed Amora's presence and looked at her while the human girl was cooking.
Eda: Oh, right. We have a human now. Also, why are you cooking?
Amora: ( nervously and quietly, but they still heard her: ) Oh, sorry, it's an old habit-
Amora then lets out a silent scream and jumps back a little as the dish she was trying to make on the stove suddenly bursts into a small flame, and King laughs in response. Eda sighs tiredly before she puts out the fire with magic, and Amora looked down at the ground with a nervous frown.
Eda: Okay, from now on, ( half jokingly: ) let's wait till Eda at least had her cup of Apple blood before burning the house down, ( honestly: ) or wait till you at least learn how to make non-human food properly.
Amora: Don't you mean " Apple juice "?
Eda: No.
Amora made a small squeak in response.
Eda: ( to Amora, half jokingly: ) Come on, let's get some food in ya before you become even more of a twig than you are now.
Amora just nodded her head in response before she smiled slightly at Eda.
( After breakfast )
Amora followed Eda into the living room calmly with a somewhat nervous look on her face.
Eda: ( to Amora: ) Now, witches normally are taught magic and are rewarded their own staffs from school. But with me as your teacher, you'll be taking a different approach.
Eda then hands Amora a bag of potions, which the human girl held with both hands and she struggled slightly with lifting it.
Eda: You'll have to work for it. I run a few businesses. On weekends, I offer rare human treasures that Owlbert drags over from your side of the realm.
Eda then grabbed a toy sword from the fireplace shelf and hits a button near the pommel.
Toy Sword: I shall smite my enemies! Ages six to eleven.
Amora then ducked her head as Eda tossed the sword over it.
Eda: But most days I sell only the finest homemade elixirs and potions.
Amora carefully pulls out a bottle from the bag.
Amora: ( reads the label out loud, with a raised brow: ) " Snake oil."
Eda: No one wants an un-oiled snake.
Amora: ( with a worried look: ) But, it doesn't harm the snake, right?
Eda: Uh, sure. Follow me.
Amora followed Eda to a balcony, Amora looked at the view that it had of the town in the distance.
Eda: ( to Amora: ) Today, you'll deliver packages and sell potions to that town over there, Bonesborough. You'll have to be careful. I have rivals everywhere who'd love to take my business down and you along with it.
Amora gulped in fear and backed away a little as her grip on the bag of potions tightened slightly.
Eda: Don't worry, kid. I'm sure you'll be fine as long as you keep the dagger I gave you with you at all times when going into town, okay?
Amora took a deep breath before she looked at Eda with a small smile, but the witch saw in the girl's eyes that she was still scared.
Amora: O-Okay, Eda. I won't let you down.
A sudden breeze then hit Amora, and it almost knocked her onto the ground, but Eda caught her by the sleeve and pulled her up.
Eda: I'm sure. Now remember, never befriend a man in sandals and always measure twice, cut once.
Amora: ( confused and a little frightened: ) Uh... O-Okay?
Amora then walked down from the balcony and walked out the door, clenching onto the potion bag with a fearful expression before she flinched slightly when she heard Eda's voice behind her.
Eda: Good luck!
( Meanwhile, inside the house )
Eda then slammed the door close before she dusted her hands off, before she stopped in her tracks as her mind reminded her how shy and skittish Amora was and she immediately knew that it would be a bad idea to let the human girl go into town by herself. She then looks at King, who was curled up on a chest under the window.
Eda: ( to King: ) I hate to interrupt your power nap, but you have to go with her.
King: What? But I just found the perfect spot. Why do I have to go?
Eda: You and I know she's either going to get lost or eaten, probably both. And we both know that she might have a panic attack if she gets herself lost or if something scares her too much. Heck, her own shadow probably scares her sometimes.
They then heard a scream outside, and they both looked out the window to see Amora hiding behind a tree, shaking in fear as she stares at her own shadow. King threw a short tantrum before he stomped out of the house, despite knowing that Eda was right.
King then walked up to the human girl and grabbed the sleeve of her sweater before he gently pulled her out from behind the tree and she followed him as he began pulling her towards the direction of the town.
Eda: ( calls out, to King and Amora: ) Be back by nightfall or risk mortal peril.
Eda then slammed the door shut again.
Hooty: ( happily, calls out to King and Amora: ) Have a nice trip!
King: ( to Amora: ) Come on, let's get this over with.
( Cut to Bonesborough )
Amora and King walk through the archway of the town, Amora was trying her best to avoid making eye contact with the various types of demons that they pass by, which King noticed.
King: ( to Amora: ) What's with you? You act like you've never been around people before.
Amora: ( quietly, to King: ) It's j-just I'm the only human here, and I don't usually be in crowded places like this.
King: Well, the sooner we get this done, the sooner we can go home.
Amora gulped in response as she glanced at her surroundings.
( A few minutes later )
Amora is now sitting down on the ground with King by a " Not Dog " cart, and she had a horrified look on her face as she was mentally replaying some of the package deliveries she had done in her head, one of them involved a doorbell eating her arm after she rang it. King scarfed down a not dog before he sighed and turned to Amora.
King: I know I've had enough delight for one day.
Amora: This day isn't helping with my nerves and fears, as because of me being the only human here, it makes everyone want to scream at me which causes me to scream back, or...
Amora held up her arm to reveal a small winged creature biting her elbow.
Amora: eat me.
Amora then gently flings the creature away from her before she pulled out her Azura book and looked into it.
Amora: ( while showing a page in her book to King with a sad look: ) If I was as brave and outgoing as Azura, would've been sent on an enchanted quest by a wizard without being afraid of everything. But, here I am, I can't even do a simple delivery task without being scared of everything...
King: Sorry to break it to you, Amora, but no one here is that well-dressed or friendly looking.
Amora just sighs in defeat and she puts the book back in her backpack before she stands up and hefts the potions sack over her shoulder with a grunt, nearly falling backwards but she managed to keep herself from doing so.
Amora: ( to King, while she takes out a piece of paper as she and King started walking down an alleyway: ) Let's just deliver this last package and go home. Maybe if I'm lucky, this one won't scare me as much as the first one did.
Amora then stopped in her track at the end of the alleyway and had a shock look on her face as she and King stand in front of a large castle with golden banners illuminated by sunlight.
Amora: Oh my...
They then walked to the door, and Amora hesitantly rang the doorbell, she then sighed in relief when the doorbell didn't try to eat her hand afterwards. The castle had towering wooden doors, and they slowly opened after Amora rang the doorbell.
King: ( to Amora: ) Big houses always belong to big whackjobs. Let's kick the package inside and get outta here.
Amora knew that King could be right, but for some reason, she felt herself being drawn in to going inside, which caused her to nervously walk inside.
Amora: H-Hello?
King: ( as he runs after her: ) Hey, wait.
King and Amora then yelped when the doors slammed behind them. They then continued, and Amora hesitantly entered a room.
Amora: I-I'm delivering a package from Miss Eda, the Owl Lady.
Amora then watched in slight confusion as the lanterns around the room flare on, revealing it to be a massive library. They illuminate a grand staircase, above which is a painting of a wizard. Then the same wizard enters the room from a door in the same pose he has in the painting, and for some reason, Amora felt herself slowly become somewhat calm when seeing him, but she was still shy.
Amora: ( shyly, to the wizard: ) H-Hello, sir.
King: Great, a weird old man in jim-jams.
The wizard then descended from the stairs when he spoke to Amora and King, the human girl was somewhat happy that the wizard wasn't screaming when seeing her.
Wizard: I was in my oscillarium, reading the stars. ( To Amora: ) And who might you be, with eyes full of kindness?
Amora: ( shyly: ) Oh, I'm, uh, I-
The wizard then went up to the two, King looked annoyed while Amora stepped back a little in response.
Wizard: ( to Amora: ) Young lady, dareth I say, I sense something unique about you. Please, won't you join me for tea?
The wizard then summoned two chairs and a table of snacks.
Amora: Um, I-
King then grabbed the sleeve of Amora's sweater and tugged on it slightly, gaining her attention.
King: ( to Amora: ) Let's scram! ( As he climbs up to her shoulder: ) Wizards are just old people with glitter in their pockets.
The wizard then calmly takes a handful of glitter out of his pocket and drops it on the floor.
King: I don't trust him.
Amora: ( to King, with a nervous expression: ) But, wouldn't it be rude to say no? Plus, I think I see scones on the table.
King: Where?
King pants as he runs to the table, and Amora follows him, gently placing the bag of potions in front of the chair across from the wizard as she sat down while King munches on the scones.
Amora: ( to the wizard, with a slight smile: ) We would love to join you for tea, sir.
Amora then noticed a cart of potions beside her when she turned her head.
Amora: ( to the wizard: ) Um, do you sell potions, sir?
Adegast: Please, call me Adegast. Yes, I run a small business.
King: ( as he holds up an empty plate: ) You should run a small business of more scones into my mouth. ( Chuckles ) Yes!
Adegast: ( to Amora: ) I'm surprised to see you here. It was my understanding that Eda delivered the packages herself.
Amora: Um, well, I'm sorta, her living with her now, and I'm kinda her apprentice, I guess.
Adegast: Oh! And how are you finding the experience so far?
Amora: It's alright. She and King have been very kind to me, but everyone else is not so much, and it doesn't help that I'm sorta afraid of everything around here...
Adegast thinks for a moment before he reached into his beard and pulled out a scroll.
Adegast: I might have just the thing. ( Unrolls the scroll to reveal a map. ) The prophecy speaks of a young human girl who will claim the Celestial staff and free this world from an ancient evil.
Amora picked up the map out of slight curiosity, but something inside her told her that something was up which made her somewhat frightened, and King quickly didn't like this as he could see a frightened look hidden in Amora's eyes, causing him to climb down from the table.
Adegast: Perhaps thou hath cometh here for a reason.
Amora: Oh, um, I-
King then suddenly grabbed Amora's sleeve and pulled the human girl away from the wizard, causing her to accidentally drop the map, and it landed in the potion bag without the two noticing. King then picked up the potion bag with one claw while he was pulling Amora out of the room with the other.
King: Neat story, awesome. Anyway, your food is gone and so are we. Come on, Amora.
Amora: O-Okay. ( To Adegast: ) Bye, it's was nice meeting you.
Adegast then waved Amora goodbye as she and King left the castle.
( Slight time skip, at the Owl house )
Amora was now putting away all the potions that were left in the bag on a shelf, and she then saw the map that Adegast showed her.
Amora: Oh, dear. It must've fallen in the bag when King pulled me away. I should probably return it as soon as possible.
Amora then thinks to herself before she glanced at the door and thought to herself.
Amora: ( nervously: ) Oh, I don't think Eda would like me going out by myself, but... It wouldn't be right to not return this to it's rightful owner, and she said that as long as I have the dagger she gave me, I should be fine... It's not too long of a walk to town from here, so I'm sure I won't be gone for too long...
Amora then took a deep breath and she quickly left a note on the table before she went to the door and leave the house with the map in her hands and her backpack on her back.
Amora: ( thoughts: ) I hope Eda won't be too mad when I get back, but I'm sure she'll understand... hopefully...
