Chapter 13: The Intruder ( Part 2 )

Amora was now sitting on the ground outside the Owl house right in front of the door with King while Acorn and Knight were inside while Eda was working on a force field spell to protect the house from the boiling rain after she had finished putting a healing spell on Amora, that healed her from the pain the crash gave her. King was putting a few bandaids on some of the bruises on Amora's left arm, before he put a bandaid on his snout.

King: ( to Amora: ) Look, now we're boo-boo buddies.

Amora: ( chuckles with a soft smile ) You're too kind, King.

Amora then turned her head to Eda with concern as the witch was working on a spell under a force field to protect herself from the boiling rain.

Amora: A boiling rainstorm on the Boiling Isles. How...um... ( A bit sarcastically: ) fun...?

Eda: Yeah, we don't have weather. We have plagues, gorenados, shale hail, painbows.

King: It's like a rainbow but looking at it turns you inside out.

Amora only made a scared squeak in response to the information of the Boiling Isles' weather.

Eda: So, until the boiling rain stops, no one is allowed outside tonight.

King: ( to Amora: ) And if the rain doesn't get you, the Snaggleback will. ( Opens a book showing images of the Snaggleback ) They wander the rain, feeding on boiled tourists.

Amora made another scared squeak in response with fearful eyes.

Eda: King, stop scaring the human, she's fragile remember? Well, whatever the case, this force field spell should protect the house from boiling rains and made-up demons.

Hooty: ( to Eda: ) Hoot! Well, hurry it up with that force field. That rain is getting closer to my previous stucco.

Eda: Yeah, yeah. I got it.

Eda uses her staff to grab the light ball in her hands and stamps the staff down to the ground. A round orange force field engulfs the house, then shrinks to shape closely around it. Amora then lets out a sigh of relief as Eda begins to walk towards the house. As Eda began walking towards the house to the young human and King, she realized that she hadn't actually tried to teach Amora magic, which she knew that the girl didn't actually need to learn how to cast spells but she felt at least trying would help the shy human feel more comfortable at the Boiling Isles, but then her train of thought was interrupted by said human when she got to them at the front door.

Amora: Um, Eda, I've been meaning to ask. Why exactly do people call you " The Owl Lady "?

Eda: 'Cause I'm so wise.

Hooty: 'Cause she coughs up rat bones.

King: I think it's 'cause she gets distracted by shiny objects.

Eda: No, I don't.

King then takes out a pen with a diamond on top of it, clicks the button on the side of it and the diamond begins to glow, causing Eda to stare at it.

Eda: ( delightedly: ) It sparkles and shimmers. It shines and delights. I must have it for my nest...

Eda lunged for the pen, but King puts it behind his back and she crashes on the ground, making Eda groan while Amora held in a chuckle with a soft smile.

Amora: ( to Eda, as she helps her up: ) You have a nest?

Eda: ( tiredly: ) Ugh. That force field really took it out of me.

King: Uh-oh. Moving a little slow. Age finally catching up to ya?

Eda only hoods King's head with his hat in response, making King scream a little.

King: Darkness!

The three then walked back inside the house, and Amora was about to sit back down to finish King's demon lesson with Acorn, Knight, and King, but Eda stopped her and gently placed a hand on the human's shoulder.

Eda: ( to Amora: ) Hey, how about I give you a magic lesson while we're waiting for the rain to stop?

Amora: Oh, uh, I-

King: But, Amora don't you wanna finish our lesson? I was gonna let you scratch a demon's tummy. Me!

Acorn turned their head and glared at King with slight jealousy in response to his words while Knight just scratches an inch on his back with his back foot like a dog.

Amora: I-

Eda: I'm sure learning about made-up demons can wait, King. ( Yawns ) Plus if Amora is going to live on the isles, she might as well learn how magic works.

Amora: ( To Eda, with concern: ) But, Eda, don't you want to rest? You did say that the force field spell did take a lot out of you-

Eda: Nah, I'll be fine. Now, listen up, kid.

King looked down in sadness as Eda had pulled Amora to the side, while Knight and Acorn watched. Amora wanted to finish King's lesson and her heart sank when she saw the sadness in King's eyes, but she didn't want to say no to Eda as she didn't want to hurt the witch's feelings either.

Eda now stood in front of Amora while King was sitting on the couch with Acorn and Knight.

Eda: Okay, Amora, if you want a witch's staff like mine one day, listen up. ( Gasps as she wakes herself up )

Amora: ( quietly: ) Eda, are you sure don't want to sleep instead-

Eda: ( didn't hear Amora ) Witch's staffs have power embedded into them, but before one is earned, every witch needs to know how to cast spells on their own. Now... ( Throws her staff to the side ) tonight I will show you how to create...light.

Eda drew a circle with her finger in the air, which glows orange. Amora watched as white light sparks in the center of the circle before it formed a large ball of light. It descends until it's in front of Amora's face, and the human gasps in response to the ball of light disappeared.

King: Yawn! Who needs another boring spell lesson when you could be learning all the fun ways a demon could kill you.

King didn't seem to notice the scared look in Amora's eyes as he held up a drawing of a demon with giant teeth to the human.

King: Look how teethy. Bite, bite.

Eda: Quiet, King. She needs to focus on the lesson, not on her fear. ( To Amora: ) Now, humans think magic is made out of thin air, but that's stupid. Everything comes from something. Let me ask you, kid. Where do you think magic comes from?

Amora: Um, the heart?

Eda: Actually, you're right.

Amora gave Eda a look of surprise in response to hearing this, until...

Eda: No, really. ( Pulls out a diagram of viscera from her hair and shows it to Amora ) It comes from a sac of magic bile attached to a witch's heart.

Amora shuttered at the sight of the diagram of a witch heart with fearful eyes, but Amora forced herself to smile as to not hurt Eda's feelings.

Amora: Oh, interesting...

Eda: I know that you're trying to not seem scared to not hurt my feelings, kid. I'll probably have to teach you how to lie better in the future. Now, everything depends on the magic circle. ( Draws a large circle in the air ) The bigger the circle, the more powerful the spell.

The circle then bursts out, creating a much bigger light than before, but it fades much faster.

Amora: But, Eda, um, humans don't have magic bile sacs... How exactly would I be able to cast spells if I don't have one?

Eda: You know, I'm not actually sure.

Amora: Oh...

Eda: I know witches did magic differently in the past, but I never bothered to figure out how. ( Laughs, snorts before she saw the worried look on Amora's face ) But, don't worry. You'll figure it out. How about you use that human " Phone " device thing to record me while I make another magic circle for you to see it again so you can try by yourself without me?

Amora: Oh, I don't know. Maybe you should lie down and take a nap first so you don't pass out.-

Eda: Nah, I'll be fine. One more spell won't kill me.

Amora was hesitant, but she slowly pulled out her phone and started recording.

Eda: ( groans ) Now, you see, the... ( Draws a shakey circle. ) spell circle is really key because- ( the circle disappears as she yawns ) Ooh, boy.

Eda then fell onto the floor, unconscious, causing Amora and Knight to look at her with complete worry and concern while King and Acorn looked at the witch with blank looks.

King: Welp, looks like one more spell killed Eda.

Amora: ( to herself, in panic: ) Oh my goodness, oh my goodness! My inability to say no knocked out Eda. What have I done?

King then got down from the couch and slapped Eda's face.

King: Bap! Yep. She's out. Bap! ( Slaps Eda's face again and laughs ) Just making sure.

Amora: We need to get help!

Amora was about to run to the door, causing Acorn to let out a panicked sound, but the human was stopped by both King and Knight grabbing the sleeve of her sweater.

King: Boiling rains, remember?

Hooty then opens the door to look at Amora with an honest look.

Hooty: ( to Amora: ) Yeah, as much as it would be funny to see that happen, I don't want to see you gain any more burn scars than you already have. Hoot.

King then slams the door shut in response while Amora looked at King with panic in her eyes.

Amora: But what if Eda's dead?

Amora then glanced at Eda for a moment and saw that Acorn and Knight were now watching Eda as she was sleep-talking.

Eda: ( sleep talking: ) Shiny thing. Big nest. ( Snores )

King: ( to Amora: ) Remember when her head got cut off last week? That woman can survive anything. She's probably just tired from staying up all night chasing shrews and voles.

Amora: Well, we can't just leave her on the floor. Come on, let's take her to her room to rest.

King tiredly looks at Eda as Amora struggled to pick Eda up by her arms. Knight and Acorn then watched from the couch as Amora began dragging Eda out of the room with King following her.
