A Spark: Part 16
Jesse only knew it was morning when she heard the doors of her friends' rooms open, and them coming out yawning and stretching.
She'd been awake the whole night, time ticking by hours, and then sometimes slow seconds. She'd had time to think though, and it was a chance to escape the nightmares. But who was she kidding? She was already living one.
Bags showed under her eyes, numbness taking control of her hurt arm. Thoughts seemed to consume her, eating at her little by little until there was a gigantic hole in her heart that couldn't be fixed.
Lukas, PAMA, Lukas, Aiden, PAMA, Lukas-
Again and again and again and again she thought about him. His soft, blonde hair, bright blue eyes filled with love and joy. She thought about his laugh and his smile, the way he was always caring about her. She missed his arms wrapped around her and the way he encouraged her when she felt down.
She wanted him, the way he made her heart beat fast, the way his lips felt on hers. Words couldn't begin to describe what she felt.
But Jesse had a job to do. She couldn't get distracted with silly fantasies. Because what she was in right now, it was a reality, not a fantasy. Where one wrong step could lead to consequences. Serious consequences, that wouldn't just affect herself, but her friends as well. She couldn't risk it.
She'd been in a daze when everyone met in the room, and only snapped out of it when Petra put a hand on her shoulder.
"Hey, Jesse-"
Jesse grabbed her wrist, making the redhead flinch in surprise. She realized and then let go.
"Sorry."
"It's fine. Woah, you look-and don't take this the wrong way-you look bad."
A flicker of annoyance passed her face as she rolled her eyes.
"Thanks." She said, sarcasm dripping from her voice. She yawned, and than quickly shook her head to make it go away.
"I didn't mean it that way." Petra protested, giving a shrug.
"But you do look...tired. Jesse, did you get any sleep last night?" Olivia asked, concerned, walking towards them. She was followed by Axel, Ivor, and the Blaze Rods a little further behind. She caught Aiden's eye and then looked away quickly. "I thought Axel was taking watch."
Olivia gave Axel the stink eye as he chuckled nervously.
"It's fine Liv. I couldn't sleep last night. Don't worry, I insisted. It wasn't his fault." Jesse replied, and then tried to shake off the tiredness aching in her body. "Now, let's get started on that plan-"
"No."
Jesse blinked, and then turned to Petra, who had her arms crossed and a bold but caring look on her face. Everyone else looked at her in shock.
"Excuse me?" Jesse asked, and put her hands on her hips, her arm numb.
"We're going to work on the plan to defeat PAMA. And you," she gestured to the other girl. "Are going to get some rest."
Jesse's eyes shot daggers.
"I'm your leader, Petra. I'm the leader of the Order of the Stone-"
"But you're also our friend." Petra cut her off. "You're our best friend, Jesse. What kind of friends would we be, if we just let you continue to beat yourself up like this?"
Jesse opened her mouth to speak, but nothing came out.
"You've been through a lot, the least we can do is let you get some rest." She continued. "We'll think of a plan to hopefully kick PAMA's mechanical butt while you rest, and when you wake up, you can make whatever changes you want. Okay?"
Jesse looked at Petra, and then her friends. She sighed.
"Petra's right. We care about you Jesse. You should get some sleep." Axel replied. "I should've done my job last night and let you rest, I'm sorry."
The green-eyed female smiled weakly and nodded at Axel's apology.
"Thank you guys. I honestly don't know what I'd do without you."
"Well, you would stay awake until your ass fell off, that's for sure."
Jesse rolled her eyes playfully, and then began to walk to her room, a smile edging on her face.
********************************
BANG
Jesse's glittering eyes snapped open, luckily her body was still too tired to do the same. She gritted her teeth in annoyance. Couldn't she have one night without something scaring the crap out of her and waking her up?
After a few moments there were voices, and then shouts. What plan had they come up with that required so much shouting?
She yawned and dragged herself out of bed, tearing away from the aches of tiredness that gripped her body. Fortunately, there were no nightmares, but maybe that was because of the little sleep she got.
Jesse stormed out the room, almost breaking down the door in the process. She felt annoyance and anger flow through her veins as she headed towards the group.
"What in the name of Notch, has to be so freaking important that a girl can't even-"
She stopped short and froze at the sight in front of her. Shock stabbed her like a blade in the chest. Her breaths became heavy and words seemed stuck in her throat.
Her heart and time itself seemed to slow, because nothing-nothing could describe what she felt when she saw a certain blonde, staring at her with bright blue eyes, the ones she thought she'd never see again.
Aaaaaand here's a cliffhanger for you guys because I'm evil (*laughs nervously*) Don't hate me for leaving cliffhangers on both this story and my other one (Regret). I promise I'll get to them...eventually.
Anyway, if anyone's here reading, which I am starting to doubt because I haven't updated for a while heh, I was really excited to write that last part. I've just been having a bad case of writer's block for what to put in some parts of the story.
At least this chapter or part was almost a thousand words, which is like, more than the other parts of the story. I swear, I'm like the queen of short chapters...
Hope you liked, I'm excited to write the next chapter :) see you there!
