Author's Note and Welcome
Hello reader. Thank you for your interest in my science-fantasy novella, A Soulless Destiny. Having only written short stories and flash fiction for the past two years, this is by far the largest project I have undertaken. Before writing this, my stories have never exceeded 10 000 words. This is smaller than the word count of the first three parts of this work! I have done my best to make this story as entertaining and intriguing as possible, and I hope that you would feel as much enjoyment in reading it as I have in writing it. That being said, I am certainly open to constructive criticism and witty comments.
The concept in this work reflects a personal blend of science and the supernatural. For this purpose, I have created a fictional version of the process of reincarnation. If you are so inclined, I would encourage you to look up existing beliefs in reincarnation, starting from Tibetan beliefs which I have very loosely based the process on. A link to a statement made by the Dalai Lama upon his retirement is included at the bottom. I have also based my concept of reincarnation on known stories of children who have claimed to recall past lives. I am by no means acknowledging their veracity nor am I positing possible fraudulence. I am just using them as inspiration. If you would like to know my thoughts on reincarnation, feel free to send me a personal message and we'll have a friendly chat about it.
Some of the science I have used in this story is based on contemporary research and innovations, such as optical lattices and machine learning. I have written them in a way that should not require any prior knowledge of such topics, nor do I go beyond the surface of what you might find from a cursory glance at Wikipedia. I will occasionally use technical jargon for authenticity, but if you see a word you're not familiar with, there's no need to look up what it means since it's won't be crucial to the plot, or you should know what it's used for from context ("I need the frambilazoo-kamathingamabob to turn the engine on" ). Do let me know your thoughts on the accessibility of this story. My goal is to write science-fiction that is for everyone.
Without further ado, I present to you... A Soulless Destiny...
