Chapter 20 - I am...

3rd POV

'This can't be real. There is no way.' Y/n thought to herself, breathing heavily, coughing ever-so-often as to try and recover from her scream. Her hands still gripped the sink below the mirror which currently displayed her copy but in a royal attire. 'It was her. There was no mistaking it.'

"How is this even possible?" She asked to no one in particular. Her copy narrowed her eyes at her, raising an eyebrow and displaying a smug look across her pink-tinted lips. The copy exhaled before bringing her hands in front of her, holding each other.

"Can it really be that impossible?" The copy asked, "I mean, you have powers just through wearing that bracelet." Y/n gulped, loosening the grip she had on the sink, nodding in understanding. The copy gave a gentle smile to Y/n and said, "This is possible because I am you."

"No." Y/n stated.

"Yes." The copy argued.

"No."

"Yes."

"No."

"Yes."

"NO!" Y/n yelled, her eyes flashing blood-red and her canines becoming as sharp as fangs. The copy stood up straight in surprise. Seeing she scared the reflection, Y/n blinked, her eyes returning to their original colour but widening themselves, shocked at her previous actions. She took a deep breath before continuing, lifting her dominant hand to caress her newly-sprouted horns as she spoke, "I can't be you. And you can't be me. If I was you, wouldn't I have known? Wouldn't I have the memories of me being a daemos?"

The reflection looked to the side, as if faltering. "You probably don't remember because..."

"Because?"

"...too young...remember..."

"What?" Y/n persisted.

"You were too young to remember!" She spit. Y/n began to argue that the copy looked the same age as her, questioning why she wouldn't remember. "Your parents. Biological parents. They-"

"They what?" Y/n pleaded, her tone dripping in desperation. She had to know. She was 20 and just now was putting the pieces of her identity together.

"I think I need to start from the beginning." The reflection said, earning a "Damn right!" from Y/n. "We are- were the Princess of the Crystal Region. Daemos was split into different regions based on its environmental conditions. Our people had adapted to the crystalline terrain and were called the Crystal people and were identified by the jewellery they wore on the day to day. That bracelet is one of the many adornments that our people wore," She said, gesturing to Y/n's bracelet as Y/n put the toilet seat cover down and sat down.

"We had been friends with well-trained warriors from childhood. In fact, we had inspired them to train harder until they were the best they could be and vice versa," The copy continued, a day-dreaming and heartsick expression creeping onto her face, "We were also planned to marry the Prince of the Volcanic Region. Of course, no proposal was made yet because we barely knew each other. We might have been Daemos but we had common sense and didn't want to rush anything. Everything was fine. Until, magic began to fade." Her face took an expression of hatred.

"As magic supplies began to diminish, the selfish and merciless began to pillage and attack regions. They were afraid they would lose magic so they were adamant to take magic from other sources - other Daemos. The Crystal people had their essence embedded in their jewellery and the other Daemos people knew that. They became the t-target..." The copy began to choke on her own words, Y/n pitying the soul, which was also herself.

The copy cleared her throat, quickly wiping her tears before continuing. "The raids had begun in the villages; then, they made their way behind the kingdom walls. Our parents knew there was nothing they could do. If they had the magic of the hundreds of villages, the raiders would have had power equivalent to all the regional kings combined. Their only hope was to send us away in the hope that we would come back to save Daemos. They knew we would be hunted and struggle in the new realm at the age we were so..." She took another deep breath, "They made us young again and suppressed our memories into a charm on our bracelet. Our favourite gemstone." Y/n looked down to her bracelet to find the gem only to see that it had a crack.

"We were sent to Earth where Leon and Cleo found you and raised you. The only reason you didn't remember before was because our memories were put in that gem but now it's cracked. That's why you were starting to remember. You've had visions, haven't you?" She questioned. Y/n's eyes widened.

"I have. But none of them make any sense. I see these boys but I don't know them-" Y/n began but was interrupted.

"Yes, you do." The copy said eagerly. "They're the boys. The Daemos staying at Ava's."

"WHAT?!" Y/n exclaimed, standing up in shock. Then everything came crashing.

~~~~~~~~~~
"What are you making, Y/n?"  A voice came from behind me. In front of me was a tray filled with cookies. In my (d/h) hand was a bag filled with what seemed to be icing. I felt my head turn to the source of the noise.
There stood a young boy. He had salmon-pink hair and orange-topaz for eyes. He looked a lot like Noi but with no horns. "I'm making colkies (daemos word for cookies) for everyone," I responded happily. Sparkles erupted in the boy's eyes as he watched my smooth movements of icing.
"Can I help?" the Noi look-a-like asked eagerly. I thought for a moment, letting a hum escape my mouth. My head nodded, earning a childish smile and cheer from the boy.  We both worked on the colkies- I mean cookies together. When we finished, we laughed together because the Noi look-a-like got icing on his nose. He wiped the icing off and ate it. "We should make more treats together, N/n!" The boy said, excitement radiating off him. I giggled at his reaction.
"Then we will." I agreed. I heard a voice calling me.
"Sorry, Noi! I have to go."
"It's fine, Y/n!" The boy said, in a still cheery mood. "Just promise, next time we see each other, we'll make colkies and other treats." He put his pinky out in front of me. I smiled widely and hooked my pinky with the boy's.
~~~~~~~~~~

"Noi..." Y/n said, tears collecting at the edge of her eyes as they flashed orange.

~~~~~~~~~~
I walked to Pierce. Pierce had been snapped into reality and drew his attention me. "Angel?  What are you doing?" Pierce asked. I walked to Pierce and gave him a gentle smile.
"Pierce, can you come down here? You're too tall," I requested. Pierce knelt to my level. The girl caressed Pierce's jawline twice before parting from Pierce, looking at the tall Daemos' reaction. Pierce's eyes were wide in shock and his cheeks were pink with embarrassment.
~~~~~~~~~~

"Pierce..." Her tears dripped down her cheeks, eyes flashing blue.

~~~~~~~~~~
"The Silvae Samatiri... The Forests of the Samatira!" I gasped. I turned and hugged Leif. "Thank you, Leif. For saving me and bringing me here." The assassin's face was dusted with a pale shade of pink but hugged back.
"Your welcome, Princess."
~~~~~~~~~~

"Leif..." Y/n grasped her head before stumbling out of the bathroom into her living room, her eyes flashing green.

~~~~~~~~~~
Asch chuckled, "No worries, he'll wake up soon enough. He has a 'thick skull' as he says. And besides he deserved it." He grabbed my right hand before going on to one knee. He pulled my hand so that he could kiss my knuckles, "I'm Prince Asch, and you, beautiful?"
I felt myself go crazy. Butterflies were flying drunklike in my stomach at the simple action. It was similar to the gesture that Leif had given me, but this gesture seemed more grand due to my position. According to King Havac and Queen Buxia, I was perfect for Asch. This kept playing through my head. 'Are they expecting us to get married?' I thought. I once again felt my body move against my control. "I'm Princess Y/n." I said, giving him a polite curtsy.
"Well, Princess, would you like me to show you the castle gardens?" Asch offered, standing up, my hand still in his grasp.
"That would be lovely, Prince Asch," I felt myself say as I and Asch made their way to leave, leaving through the exit closest to Rhal's body.
~~~~~~~~~~

"Asch..." She whipped around, knocking a vase to the ground, breaking it into sizable pieces, eyes flashing ruby-red.

~~~~~~~~~~
"Happy Birthday, Rhys!" I squealed, gripping Rhys in a bone-crushing hug.
"T-thank you, Princess. But I must s-say, I ch-cherish the ability to b-breathe," Rhys politely choked out. At this, I let go of Rhys and muttered a sorry, being quickly forgiven. I gave Rhys a gift I had got him. He opened it. "No way! You got me a copy of the Journal of Javoc the Slayer and the Journal of Elreid the Healer! I thought that these were treasures of your kingdom? Kept safe in the vault, how did you?"
"I used a copy spell and copied the journals!" I had answered, my smile growing bigger by the second seeing my best friend's joy grow every second.
"This is amazing! One of the greatest gifts any Daemos could ask for! Do you know how many tips of magic and fighting are in these journals?! I could become a real master and I could teach you as well. Oh my gosh! This is amaz-!" Rhys started to rant but was stopped when he felt warmth on the tip of his nose. He realised I had kissed his nose. At this, his entire face blew up red. I pulled away and giggled at Rhys' cuteness.
~~~~~~~~~~

"Rhys..." Y/n pulled her hands from her head as her eyes flashed purple. At this moment, she registered the broken vase on the ground. "Oh no!" She quickly ran to grab her dustpan and brush and collected the pieces before putting them on the table carefully.

Sighing, the girl closed her eyes and snapped her fingers. She opened her eyes, expecting a fixed vase. To her surprise, the vase remained in pieces. Y/n snapped her fingers again. Nothing. And again. Nothing.

She growled in aggravation, irritated at her magic. At this point, she was just fed up with magic. Y/n went to her kitchen, searching each cupboard for gorilla glue. After searching and coming up empty-handed, Y/n realised she would have to go buy some.

She reached her hands to her horns, realising that if her magic was 'no bueno', she wouldn't be able to hide her horns. In desperation, she gripped her horns and concentrated her magic on hiding them. Slowly, she felt the horns fade into nothing, her hands holding on to thin air. Her eye twitched as she bellowed into thin air at seemingly no one, "ARE YOU KIDDING ME? So you won't work on the vase but you'll work on my horns? What kind of bull-!" She stopped herself, knowing that children and elders lived in the apartment building too and would probably not appreciate the cursing. Now mumbling the curses, the girl went to pick an outfit.

(You can change the outfit but the hoodie is necessary for the plot. The design, whether it's cropped or not is up to you.)

"Here we go..." Y/n said, after pulling her shoes on and pushing open her entrance door. Gathering any sliver of positivity she had left, she channelled her joy and journeyed to the nearest market.

Time skip brought to you by your sexy reflection...

Y/n started wandering the store, grocery basket in hand. She had found the gorilla glue but thought it would be smart to buy her groceries now to save the trip later. She gave herself an imaginary pat on the back and relished in her genius as she observed the shelves, looking for her monthly necessities.

"Look the letters match!" A familiar voice exclaimed. Y/n froze. She knew that intrigued and mind-blown voice anywhere. It was Rhys. Y/n quickly pulled her hood up hiding her hair and, hopefully, her face. 'What is Rhys doing in a super market?' She asked herself, turning around. To her horror, she saw, not only Rhys without Ava guiding him, but Rhys with the rest of the daemos without Ava guiding them. Y/n swiftly turned back around, grabbing a bag of crisps from the shelf.

'Why are they all out here? And without Ava, no less!' Y/n questioned, her eyes widening in worry. She continued to pretend to investigate the items on the shelves while listening in to the conversation.

"A brilliant system!" Rhys complimented, "All we have to do is match the letters in the book to the letters of the ingredients."

'Ingredients? Ingredients for what? Is Ava teaching them how to cook? But Ava doesn't know how to cook well, and she isn't stupid enough to let them go out by themselves... right? '

"Well, that's incredibly stu-" Leif began.

"Genius!" Rhys interrupted, "Humans seem to have a sorting system."

Y/n sighed, 'Not exactly, Rhys. We don't carry cook books around these days. '

"Then, what are we waiting for?" Asch asked impatiently, "Let's gather these ingredients and get Princess Ava feeling better." That stood out.

Y/n's breath got caught in her throat. 'Ava isn't feeling well? How did I not know? Why didn't she tell me? She could have texted! Or is it so bad she couldn't? ' Y/n panicked, putting the item she had in her hand back on the shelf before rushing to the self-checkout.

Quickly, she scanned and paid for all of her items, bagging them and running out of the super market. As she ran home, her eyes began to tear up. How could she have been so careless? How could she have been so selfish? To think of only herself and her problems rather than checking on Ava who was literally harbouring men from another dimension - what kind of friend was she? As she rounded the corner she slid.

(For this, I was thinking about a certain anime scene where the character runs around a corner and slid before running in the direction they were meant to. I drew this as a representation. It was a quick sketch and on computer with a wireless mouse so don't judge!)

As she approached the apartment building, she stopped at the entrance and looked up at Ava's apartment windows. Y/n's vision grew more blurry and tears filled her eyes for the second time that day; she ran into the building, got in an elevator and sped to her apartment door.

Swiftly, she unlocked it, bolting in before slamming the door behind her. She took a few quick breaths before ripping off her shoes, walking to her kitchen island and dropping her bags there. She stumbled as she took a few steps back, her back hitting a wall. Her knees wobbled and her legs buckled from underneath her, resulting in her sitting on her legs.

(Imagine this but with a sad look on your face, and you aren't wearing this...)

Y/n began to sob as she pulled her knees to her chest and cried into her knees. Why was all of this happening to her? So much was happening... how was she meant to cope with it all?

"You know who you are, don't you? " It was an inner voice. It sounded so much like her own, so she assumed it was her past daemos self. Fiddling with the (f/g), Y/n nodded slowly, her head still in her knees and her eyes still pouring.

"You are Princess Y/n of the Crystal Region of Daemos, are you not? " Y/n sniffled, pulling her head up slightly from her lap. She looked around her apartment. The apartment that she had paid for. The apartment that she had lived in since she finished university early. The apartment that was above Ava's. Ava. The person she had grown to love and cherish as a sister. Was any of it worth it? She worked her ass off and for what? To come to realisation that she wasn't even from here? Sure, she had magic but she thought it was a gift or a discovery.

All of this uncertainty aside, there was one thing she was sure of...

"I am..."
