SURPRISE

You shifted around, forcing your eyes to open, despite them feeling light weights attached to your face.

"Oh! She's waking up!" You could hear a voice blabber out. When your eyes fully opened, you squinted at the bright light around you.

"What... the fuck..." You blurted out quietly.

"Y/n? Are you okay?" Hanji asked, leaning over to look at you. You blinked a few times, trying to clear your vision more.

"Feels like I'm being sat on," you replied. Hanji smiled in relief.

"At least you're fine! I was worried there," she said, walking back to her desk.

"What the hell happened?" Levi asked. You tried to move around, but stopped when a shooting pain went through your chest.

"Just saved a kid's life," you grunted out. Levi just sighed in response. "How long was I out?"

"Four days," Hanji chirped.

"Four?!" You exclaimed, then flinching in pain. Levi placed an instinctive hand on your arm to calm you down.

"Yeah! Thankfully it wasn't as long as we originally thought," she added. You carefully sighed, relaxing your head back.

"What happened while I was unconscious?" You asked. The two grew silent. You quirked a brow, but kept your stare up at the ceiling.

"Trost District got attacked," Hanji said grimly.

"What?" You gasped, brows now furrowing instead. "How did that happen?"

"We're not entirely sure," Levi replied, "We were just returning from the expedition."

"It's fine though, Eren sealed the wall that was kicked in," she said excitingly. You just stared at her with the most confused expression.

"I... what?"

"According to witnesses, the same colossal titan that appeared five years ago outside of Shiganshina District and kicked a hole into Trost," Hanji briefed. Your eyes widened slightly.

"And what's the state of it now? Is Trost being protected?"

"Not anymore," she replied, "Cadet Eren Jaeger transformed into a titan and sealed the wall himself."

"He... turned into a... titan?"

"Yeah," Levi replied, "Came to a shock to us too."

"We have Levi's squad watching over him as we speak," Hanji added.

"I... kinda want to watch over a titan shifter..." You muttered, relaxing your face.

"You can if you want," Levi said, looking at you.

"I'll take you up on that," you replied, "So how long will I have to stay all cooped up?"

"Three weeks," Hanji said without hesitation.

"Three—?!" You were going to sit up, but Levi predicted you would and beat you to it. He forced you to stay down with his hand.

"Your whole chest cavity was crushed, what do you expect?" Levi asked, eye twitching. You looked up at him.

"Oh come on, that's a little excessive."

"It's not like your skills are going to wither down in those weeks," Hanji piped up.

"Well, no... but still, three weeks?" You looked between the two.

"You need to heal," Levi said, "I'll tie you to the bed if I have to." You threw a half-hearted glare at him.

"You can try, pretty boy."

A couple of days later, you were finally able to sit up without being in as much pain as before. It still hurt somewhat to breathe, but you managed. There were light knocks at the door.

"Come in," you called. Asher walked into the room with an envelope in his hands.

"This came for you Y/n," he said quietly. You looked at him, noticing something was off with his mannerisms.

"What happened?" You asked immediately. He seemed to jump at the sudden question.

"How did—?! I mean... it's nothing, just... the girl I was going out with ended things."
You tilted your head at him.

"How old are you?" You asked.

"21, why?"

"You're still young. No need to rush." You shrugged slightly, careful not to upset your ribs. You then remembered the note he was carrying. "Who's that from?" You gestured to it. He looked at the back of it.

"It's from F/n L/n—"

"Get rid of it."

"What?"

"Get rid of it."

"Just read it," Asher said, already opening it.

"No," you replied sternly.

"Just try." He slid the note out.

"I said get it out of my sight."

"Come on, you can do it," he said, shoving the note in your hands. You snarled at him like a wild animal.

"You better sleep with one eye open from now on," you hissed at him. He smiled nervously before slowly walking out of the infirmary. You sighed before unfolding the paper.

'Dear Y/n,
I heard you seriously got injured during an expedition from an acquaintance. However, I already knew, because I was there when you arrived back in the wallsI've been contemplating about going to HQ to visit you, but I'd probably get mauled by you. But I'll be able to explain everything to you if you let me. You see, before I left, I had to choose between your mother and... another woman... I wish to explain more in this letter, but that would take too long...

Love,
F/n L/n'

You sneered at the letter, ripping it to shreds before tossing its pieces onto the floor.

"Eat shit, father."

~
"Oi, can I come in?" Levi called out, already walking into the room.

"Yeah," you replied, staring down at your sheets. He walked up closer to your bed, noticing your expression.

"What's wrong?" He asked. You sighed.

"I got another note from my father," you replied, crossing your arms, but being careful of where you place them.

"Where is it?" He asked, looking around the room.

"I ripped it to pieces. One of the nurses came in and cleaned it up earlier," you replied.

"What did it say?" He took a seat next to your bed.

"It said how he knew that I was injured, because he saw me enter the walls. Then he said he was contemplating on coming or not. And..." You paused.

"And?"

"And how he left my mom and I for... another woman," you finished. His eyes opened a fraction wider. You turned your head to look at him.

"He should've gotten the memo that I don't want to speak—or even hear—from him. Is he that stupid?"

"Tch. Haven't you been curious for years? Isn't this your opportunity to find out the truth?"

"I have figured out the truth. I can't just accept him back and listen to him because he's remorseful. Not when he left my mom for some other woman," you replied. He sighed, lowering his head an inch.

"If that bastard does end up coming here, I'll take care of him for you."

"Don't forget, he was the one who taught me how to fight. Kicking his ass won't be so easy." You heard him click his tongue together.

"He's never met me."
You rolled your eyes at him.

"I'm not irrational. If he's so adamant, I'll listen, but I'm not to be held responsible for mine or his actions."

"I've never seen anyone get to you, so don't let him get to you as well," he said. You lightly smiled at him.

"I'll be sure not to. Thank you, Levi."
He just hummed and grabbed your hand, holding it tightly. That was enough for you. You weren't alone.

Ja ne!
